English translation by Nick Faro. Machine translated, it's going to be human translated soon, based on this project. https://nickfa.ro/wiki/Slime_MoriMori_Translation_Hack

I’m not going to address the “entitlement” part because I don’t want to be disrespectful to whoever created this project, but people should be ashamed of being “fine” with machine-generated translations. I expected more from a community that prides itself so much on “muh preservation.” I guess that’s just me.
The worst part of any hobby is the community. And the worst part of this one is people like you.

"The very serious part-time unofficial hobby of videogame fan-translation" by Hilltop

Good and relevant article from a translator whose work I'm sure many people here have enjoyed.
That was a good read.
However, Hilltop isn't going to work on all the niche and obscure massive life-simulation rpgs only released in japan that no one touches.

He mostly picks up the quirky 3 hours anime game that twitter will find cute.
Racing Lagoon is probably the longest game he's worked on.

So i disagree with his opinion and i'm glad more people are stepping up on the translation scene.
No one is stopping anyone from learning japanese and romhacking (requiring years of dedication), and to put months of their life doing a manual translation (for free, resigning of your own free time and, not less admirable, UNPAID labour).

Both can coexist. If someone is bothered, it's very simple: do the leg work and make a better translation (or pay someone to. That way, one would have every right to ask for better quality)

It's like pirating movies: if a better option to access the content exists on the legal channels, people will pick up that one. If a better translation exists, people will pick that one.

I thought about stopping posting MTL, but you know what? I'm coming around to it, you guys give so much engagement that i might keep doing it.

Hint of what's to come: a just finished translation of a life sim for DS. Years ago a full, very flawed DeepL translation was completed, but recently updated with Claude. More info later.

really? couldn't care less.

"all these people are telling me eating dogshit is bad, so i'm gonna keep eating dogshit just to spite them"

I really hope these annoying MTL / LLM translations are just an awful trend that'll be over very soon.

I checked your comments on other posts, and all you do is complain about things that other people have created. Ironic how you even mention Token's "Evil doesn't create" quote on one of them lol.
my critques are made from human thoughts and emotions at least. unlike some of these translations.

Doing something for free doesnt make people immune from critisism. Esspecially with a translation this lazy and poor

I think machine translations are fine. better than no translations. The entitlement of people complaining about things people are doing for them for free is insane. Those people deserve to be shamed for their behavior.

Showing us the coolest screenshots to ever grace the fantranslation scene 💀

Jokes aside, i don't think i will be posting fan translations moving forward.
I mean, this one is clearly stated in the description to be a WIP, a proof-of-concept to show that a translation is feasible, and it is planned to be fixed sometime in the future, and yet it still generates all this negativity.
Just not worth it.

I have alot of fantranslated stuff that isn't public, because it is either unfinished, flawed, or ai was used to aleviate the heavy work, or to serve as a first draft.

People have spoken, so i'll just stick to posting romhacks not related to translations.

(Which is a shame, i really wanted to share some cool stuff with people and hear their thoughts. That's the whole reason for me to be here. Well, it is what it is)
Ngl if you had a more translated ver of Tales of the World 2 or 3 I'd be down for that.

The translation is wild.

Also pretty bad, most of the script is non-sensical. It isn't worth it until a real translation comes along.

I was really excited when I saw this but this looks downright unplayable with the current state of the translation.

I know people want to defend the machine translation stuff since it's true you can use it to lay groundwork.. but if you're still going to have to go back through the entire script with a fine-toothed comb in order to not have it look like the screenshots in the above post, then you may as well not have used the machine translation to begin with.

Could you list the romhacks and translations you've worked on?
I'm curious, they must be really top-notch.

so this is the first DQ slime game right?
guess only the 2nd game got an english version officially (rocket slime)

unless you're playing these games on actual hardware(which i know most of us are not) i doubt most mfs downloading roms care that much as long as they get to experience the game in some way

AI is just a tool to me. I'm fine with people using tool for their work as long as actual human still do the editing and quality proofing at the end. Text translation is a very long and difficult process that most people don't enjoy doing it. I only have problem with AI is when people are abusing it, like all the AI slops out there. That says, I might actually give this game a try again after all these years.

Ooh, very cool. I'll keep my eye on this ! (Gotta whittle down the eternal backlog)
I know how you feel. Every time I look back at mine, it's casting a longer shadow than before.
