Absolutely terrible fucking news
I just found out that somehow in the less than 2 weeks since I bought the acer monitor that I use with my windows 7 rig, it somehow managed to get a scratch on it
so it's basically useless to me because I have whatever mental defect makes it so that literally any imperfections or damage on a monitor is obscenely distracting
send it back to amazon?

The most disturbing thing is the fork on the table...because now I am imagining you're using that for eating :(

I thought this thread would be fun, but looking at the majority of pictures I feel like I need to get fresh air...if I didn't have my OCD for cleaning I would have enjoyed them :O

Anyways, my setups are 2+2 (not going to show pictures, they are perfectly placed now):

4GB RAM DDR4
256GB eMMC module

Total price: 89€ (2023)
------------------------------------------------------

Emulation (secondary & carry away device) with Batocera:

Total price: 29€ (2025)
------------------------------------------------------

I have many other devices, mostly Mini PC's and a couple of Android TV's, which are alright for emulating, minimum Dreamcast, I don't get devices weaker than that.

I enjoy repurposing computers, so this probably will change in the near future :)

Me looking at that computer that more than likely has COPD or emphysema from secondhand smoke

Well my Laptop is same as my friend but the difference os that mine I buy this four years ago and manly playing MS-Dos and emulator

Os: Windows 10
CPU: Intel (R) Pentium(R) Silver N5000 CPU @1.10Ghz 1.10Ghz
Ram: 4gb
GPU: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 605 (128 MB)

I don't if you can run Skyrim on this one because I really want to play it I have Skyrim on ps3 and played before I quit because at that time I was overwhelmed I want to getback into but the pc version is the best version.
I forgot. Your laptop uses N5000? that chipset is very good for Moonlight stream playing, as long as you do 1080p. I've tried a Mini PC with that before, I was streaming from a friend's home and the input lag was really good, around 10-12ms. Maybe you can ask a friend to set up Skyrim for you and you can play it with your laptop :)

most people here are just listing out their components but we all know that raw power is really not the most interesting part of a setup

like i don't care if your car got 400HP if it got a boring interior and isn't recognisable at first glance on the parking lot I'm not gonna be interested

anyway i forgor to mention two important computers of mine I also got a GPD Win 4 which is basically just a fat PSP with a laptop ryzen chip & windows 11, it's the only computer i got where fortnite is installed (cause that shi don't work on linux and yea i used to have it on the windows desktop but there's just too many updates fat heavy updates and the epic launcher sucks ass so i can't even sync my 2 PCs together i have to get the whole thing from the internet dozens of gigabytes per months just for a game's updates so yea wasn't sustainable to have that shi installed on more than one computer)

i rarely use the fat PSP in handheld mode except for rhythm games I mostly use my USB C OLED monitor from aliexpress and USB peripherals, sometimes a very thin and lightweight blutooth keyboard i found at Action (that's mostly when I'm out of the house when i'm here i just use my normal keyboard)

here is a photograph of my fork knife setup at my fren's house
2025-07-12-16-45-35-351.jpg

i also still sometimes use my old thinkpad 2nd gen intel so old it doesn't even have Vulkan (which makes linux gaming a lot more complicated), no hardware video encoder (actually it apparently have one but doesn't show in VAAPI its some proprietary intel thing or something never knew how to make it work, never even knew it was there until very recently)
I mostly use this one for visual novels and old directx 9 games or older, it has OpenMandriva right now but I think I'm gonna use it to try out Slackware very soon

(no photo of this one cuz i'm too lazy but picture yourself a Thinkpad X220 Tablet with the dock, no battery, with beaten up USB ports and random pieces of rubber missing)

Wow, but componentes and raw power is the only reason I live and pay for. I don't pay for fancy, fancy does not allow me to run anything and costs money.

Ugly things are the best because they are cheaper and uglyness does not interfere in power to run things, that's why I usually don't care if my PC tower is second hand, or even if it has some stuff that needs to be adapted to modern components. The only important thing at the end of the day is price and how much can it run. Call it price ratio per polygon lol.

What I don't tolarate is dirt, dust and messy stuff, but that I can clean myself for free. The rest is like an accessory, not needed for the purpose of the thing.

I assure you the fork was solely there for fiddling with the latch on my dreamcast's disc drive whenever it won't pop out all the way, lol

I have a shitty PC that I got last year it gets the job done and is better than the PC I had from 2013-2024
I also have a Win 2000 PC for old games.

Specs is not that important as I would say 90% of you all have 200X times better spec.

I've never built up a PC for old games (pre 2000), but I would want to do so with a VIA C3 CPU, which is the low power consumption from the 90's. I have to look how much would cost in total but it would be a very nice small project :)

EDIT: I just forgot that Thin Clients are awesome for this. Some of them have VIA chipsets and they are super cheap on internet. I don't know how feasible would be to install Windows 2000 in one of those.

I been building PC sense I was 15 hehe but yeah having a PC dedicated to old PC game is not as Microidiots decided to make win 11 even worse and I down own a shit load of PC game on disc game that does not even exist on gog. Sure I can use my abadonware and Archive to get my hands on old game and run them with dos box.

But honestly having a dedicated PC with win 2000 or 98 even is nice and honestly less of a hassle to make old games run. Just insert disc install and play no exstra steps needed and no messing with dos box settings.

Call me lazy or dumb but having to tweak settings on emulators or such to play a game is rather of putting I just wanna play. It´s a pain in the ass enugh when I spend 5-8 hours modding fallout 4 or skyrim or such and I just wanna play. Reason why I rarely play Fallout 3 or such becuse they are 10 times worse to get working with mods.

Totally. This thread inspired me to grab a Wyse CX0 and mod it to get an expandable storage and have fun installing Windows 98 or Windows 2000 :)

i mean if you look at my setup it should be clear enough what I think about expensive cases that are just a glass panel with christmas lights

from my POV the typical tech youtuber setup or r/Battlestations setup is exactly what falls into the category "car so generic and boring you cannot find it back in a big parking lot", plus those usually have no features at all those MF be spending half on their money on a case where you cannot even put a blu ray player smdh, and they're spending *more money* on their keyboard to have *less keys* that's incomprehensible to me

what I value is setups that are not boring to look out which have a soul and a lore and a vibe

I feel you, this is my current case with a LG blu-ray burner. This case is a behemoth & heavy son of a bitch. I have to use a vertical gpu mount due to the fact the gpu can't make contact to the pci-e slot due to the nvme cooler fan taking space, the gpu would crush it. My gpu takes up a lot of space. Visualize it. 3 front cooler fans + 240mm nzxt aio liquid cooler. A tank literally. I saved up cash for my build. Logitech mx anywhere 3 mouse + keyboard. It was totally worth it.

man what a sturdy professional looking case, only kind of expensive case I actually understand

could use one or two more 5.25 tho

anyway so that you guys can better comprehend the kind of setup i have at home, today I had to repair the cable of my aliexpress speaker again :

this is how I live my life, no need for better gear

i have two beelink mini pc. one has linux mint on it and i use this one for writing and other stuff and the other has win 10 debloated and i use it for gaming. they work great!
the gaming one plays everything i want to play with no issues so i see no need to update or throw away more money for all that "AI efficient cores" nonsense.
