Saw Roofman again (first time after Theatre), and it is still a pretty nice film on second viewing. Channing Tatum was really nice and Kristen Dunst was also really good, and despite being a biography of a criminal, it has some feel-good aspects to it.

Yesterday we watched The Secret Agent, Brazil's nomination for the Oscar. That was a waste of time, it goes around and around for almost three hours and in the end gets nowhere😑

Both are absolutely excellent! I didn't see Highlander until my 20s and absolutely fell in love with it. What did you think of the tv show continuation?

I just recently learned about it😅

Saw the Japanese film Cure (1997) with an online friend.

Really great film and has a puzzle box aspect to it where you might not get the film fully at first watch but on rewatch or even examination of the events of the movie will make you realize the entire story that went down. It is a fascinating watch and if you watch it with a friend then you are bound to have a discussion on the film's events after it is over.

Also saw the latest 2025 Brendan Fraser film Rental Family.

It was a really really sweet and wholesome film and it was just the thing I really wanted in my life. I remember seeing the director Hikari's 2020 film 37 Seconds back in pandemic and she is really good at making these wholesome yet often hard hitting films that are not shy from discussing some serious issues. Though as good as the film was, I really wish this was television series instead. Like imagine each episode being about the main character acting as someone's rental family and showing us their issues in life that lead to them hiring the MC as a rental. Still, what we got in the film was wholesome enough, and Brendan Fraser was really good at it. I highly recommend it if someone is having a bad time in life.

This reminds me of Family Romance, LLC::thank-you

I have seen Family Romance LLC, that one's more artsy. I would say Rental Family is more straight forward feel good slice-of-life film, but its worth watching either way.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I did saw Mayasabha a few days ago in theatre.

It is by the same director as Tumbbad and while it is of a different genre (Mayasabha being a psychological drama while Tumbbad being a horror film), it is still pretty good and there is a lot of layers and metaphors to derive from the plot.
Also, the director is really good at cinematography at tight and often dirty looking places, that was apparent in Tumbbad and is very, very, apparent in Mayasabha. This film has probably my favorite looking "abandoned theatre" in movies. I mean I don't know how many movies show "abandoned movie theatres" but I remember seeing a few and this one got my favorite look of it. He really makes the place seem claustrophobic as hell. Even if the plot don't jive with you (I mean, the films seems to be pretty divisively received and I get why, it is a plot that don't work for everyone) I just recommend watching it for the cinematography alone.

Another film I saw while I was away, was the 1996 Lee Byung-Hun starring film Kill The Love. The plot's fine, basic Bonnie and Clyde meets Pretty Woman story of a hitman falling in love with a prostitute. But I liked the fashion of the film for some reason. The main heroine wears quite a few dresses, and they all look really pretty on her.

There are also some good instances of cinematography here and there, and it definitely feels like one of those time capsule films because a lot of this film screams peak 90s punkish horny asian cinema. This film was made a few years after South Korea left dictatorship as well and a few years before the financial crisis of the late 90s, so it has similar lavish rich vibes to it that a lot of 80s Japanese films had before the bubble popped.

Monday Movie Night was Bugonia, her choice. We're both big Yorgos fans, ever since Poor Things. This one was killer, great twist even if you end up seeing it coming. I wanna check out Save the Green Planet sometime soon, seeing as this is a remake of that film.

Saw *Notting Hill* tonight and it was really great. Throughout the film I was smiling from ear to ear and Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts had an amazing chemistry. The film was also pretty funny at points, and also sweet in others. It's early feburary time so I am obviously feeling a bit in mood for romantic films. Will probably watch another romantic film tomorrow.

Saw The Apartment (1960) last night and it was really, really, good. It is a Billy Wilder film, so of course everything from the acting to the dialogues were amazing, and despite a simple premise, there was a lot of underlying subtext of corporate american life and loneliness packed into it. I won't spoil anything about this movie, but if you are interested, I say go in blind, because the performances and the dialogues will definitely take you away. I won't say it is as strong of a work as Sunset Blvd. but it is definitely another classic.

Saw this last night.

While not as good as the first IMHO, it's an alright action movie. I was definitely not bored watching. Gave our main character a little bit more back story.

Saw this just now. T'was OK. Kept me interested to the end. ::sailor-embarrassed
Got a few chuckles outta me.::winkfelix

Just got done with "American Splendor" (2003)
MOVGF2985__76008.1679570118.jpg

Based on the comic (and real world musing of it's main character) of the same name, the film focuses on the trials and tribulations of Harvey Pekar, an average joe working a dead end job as a VA File Clerk. After meeting and befriending artistic upstart Robert Crumb, Harvey soon has a desire to make his own comics. But lacking any kind of drawing ability, he asks Crumb and others to help with the art

What Harvey produces is a poignant and highly relatable comics series that brings him unwanted celebrity, namely with David Letterman

Overall, I think it's a great bio-pic/documentary and Paul Giamatti absolutely steals the show with his portrayal of Harvey
