I've heard of this one recently, looks absolutely bonkers. It's a strange glam-rock musical that adapts Phantom of the Opera into a contemporary (1974) setting in the corrupt music business. It was directed by Brian De Palma, who also directed Scarface a couple of years later. I heard really great things about this movie and it's soundtrack too. I didn't spoil myself about too much about this movie, so I'm going in mostly blind save for a couple of frames I saw, some trivia and background info I found. What's really cool is that Atlas Studio took inspiration from this movie for the character designs for SMT and Persona apparently! I hope the movie is good, I might comment about what I thought of it tomorrow!
I need to watch this one because I like how Griffith/Femto got inspired by that.

So after watching the latest Nosferatu I've also watched The Lighthouse.

I’ll be watching this masterpiece tonight.
(The Boy and the Heron)
Enjoy! Not my favourite Miyazaki but still a good one.

I'm a big fan of Nausicaa and Laputa myself.

(The Boy and the Heron)
I saw this for the first time last week. It is so remarkably dense - I HAD to watch it for a second time the next day. Whilst a part of me still thinks that The Wind Rises is Hayao Miyazaki's most masterful film in its themes and artistry, I can't deny that there's so much more going on under the hood of The Boy and the Heron. I think it's just going to take me another decade to fully unpack it all?

I watched Car Wash and it was pretty good.

The Sonic OVA from the 90's since the third movie put me in a mood to rewatch it after several years.

It's not flawless but I love the classic designs (how round Sonic is, how cute Tails was designed despite his fear of thunders and Knuckles' cool hat) and the soundtrack.

The Wisdom of Crocodiles

I recommend going into it blind, don't read reviews or even the short promotional blurbs, it's one of those movies that can be totally spoiled by a single word.

I don't generally watch movies alone anymore, so I don't watch them as often as I used to, but a friend and his boyfriend convinced me to watch Deadpool & Wolverine a couple days ago. It was... fine. I'm not a big fan of Marvel movies, or really superheroes in general. Hugh Jackman has always been a great Wolverine though.

Anyway, it was better than I expected. The frequent graphic violence was a lot of fun and was probably what kept me engaged the most. Good acting. Some good licensed music, even though most of it were really safe choices. I was mixed on Deadpool. I know being silly and crass and breaking the 4th wall is his whole shtick, but he got really annoying sometimes. I'm no stranger to cursing and engage in it a little too much, but the amount of fucks would probably make Tony Montana raise an eyebrow, let alone all the other curse words. Came across as trying too hard to be mature. Couldn't care less about the continuity or plot, just seemed like an excuse to get a bunch of random characters together. However, Wesley Snipes returning as Blade was an actual surprise. After how notoriously shitty he was on the set of Blade: Trinity, I never expected him in the role again.

Not much else to say, I'll drop a 6/10 on it. Don't regret watching it, but I'm just not the target audience.

Watched the 1989 movie Elves, absolutely insane watch that started with the main character doing usual girly things such as demonic rituals in the woods. Ending with the main character being revealed to be the result of her own grandfather being her father, and that happened so the main character could be impregnated by a nazi elf to create the ultimate life form (because some reason the girl that got knocked up had to be inbred and a virgin). The whole evil plan could have been foiled if she just had a quick one night stand

Watched this tonight with my friend who's currently passed out behind me! I didn't think I would like it as much as when I was younger but I actually really enjoyed it.

Next I'm planning to watch Clockwork Orange, after talking about Mick Magee in the other thread I figured I should watch some of his movies! (again)

I’ll probably watch Heavier Trip
IMG_6249.jpeg

The sequel to Heavy Trip, a really charming Finnish music comedy about a metal band trying to get out of their dead-end town to play a festival in Norway. It’s super sweet and makes fun of the idiosyncrasies and ridiculousness of the metal scene from the point of view of someone who loves it.
I’m trying to not get my hopes up too much for heavier trip, judging by the trailer it might be a case of sequelitis, ie doing the same movie again just with more stuff, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

I could probably just put every movie from my media thread last year, but I won't. I've only really watched one movie this year so far, and it was Fantastic Planet.

It's a sci-fi allegory story about humans living on a strange planet where giant alien humanoids treat them like pests. The story is decent, but I really liked it for the music and animation. The music is this combination of funk and jazz but definitely sounds like something you would listen to if you were on psychedelics. That makes it the perfect pairing to the visuals, some of which are very trippy.

Also, all the animation is paper cutouts, and it gives the animation a bit of an unsettling feeling and I love it.

i am going to watch sonic 3 and transformers one, from the short clips i watched, definitely looking they going to be good.

It's officially Saturday where I am now, time for Saturday Movie Night event, where I watch random movie on a whim.
Man I should've make my own thread or something, anyway for later tonight
2008's Death Race, why? I dunno, I sold my car recently and wanted to watch some car related movies I think, but I don't wanna watch Fast and Furious so.... I don't know why this came to mind.

Finally got a movie in this evening, it's been awhile!

Tonight I watched Rope (1948), directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Jimmy Stewart and James Dall.

There's a thing about old movies, where I think a lot of people might feel hesitant to turn one on; it might be boring, or a thoughtful drama you need to really focus on, or it might just be hard for a modern viewer to relate to or understand. Sometimes all of those are true, but I tell you what, most Hitchcock movies are fun and hook you right away. Growing up, I only ever saw Psycho (though I'd seen jokes about the The Birds, of course), but every one of his movies I've watched as an adult has been a thrill. One day I'm sure I'll watch a bad Hitchcock movie, he must have them, but it's not this day.

Rope is practically a chamber play, taking place entirely within a single apartment, with three adjoining rooms. It opens on two friends *fucking murdering* an acquaintance, strangling him to death. Then, they get to work tidying up, because they're hosting a dinner party that same night, in that same apartment, to celebrate the kill....and that's as much as I'll say about the plot, but hot damn, what a way to start a picture!

The movie is tense all the way through, with a literal dead body mere inches away from the dinner guests the entire time, but like most Hitchcock movies it's never oppressive feeling. People laugh and tell jokes, and we occasionally get mixed up in personal drama that makes us forget the real elephant in the room. Jimmy Stewart is always great, but his opposite number here, James Dall, is one of the best performances of a murdering lunatic I've ever seen. He isn't unhinged or wild, instead he's so damned smug and arrogant that he's convinced if anyone should be allowed to play God, it's him. (Him?)

I'm a late-comer to this well known classic, but if you're like me and never saw it before, I couldn't recommend it more.

The Time Machine from 1960 (based on H.G. Wells' Book from the preceding century's '95).

One of my childhood favourite.

I was confused about it at first but then
when the scene with the book crumbling happened
it suddenly became a favourite of mine (despite how simplified the plot got over the book)

I watched this when I was kid but I didn't understand English back then, I did remember it was a really fun movie, even though I didn't understand anything I know Sammy Davis Jr stole the show.
