SNES Shadowrun (SNES) - When Cyberpunk invaded our cartridges

I believe it must have scared some children back then. I didnt play as a kid, i played it in the second half of the 90's, already almost an adult. Didnt finish it at the time but finished it in the emulator. ::thumbsupwario

Remember, at the time how few games were really horror at all, especially on consoles? It was probably the first "scary" game I played. But I thoroughly enjoyed emulating it as an adult because it's a little jank, and I don't think I could have finished it without save states ::sailor-embarrassed. The ending is kinda abrupt too, not quite satisfying.

To be honest, the closest i came to play a scary game in the 90's was Splatterhouse 3 for Mega Drive, i liked the design of the monsters at the time. Never saw anything on SNES that could be called "scary". Regarding Shadowrun i finished without save states. I only use them as a backup in case the normal saves get corrupted and i only use save states in the places where you can use normal saves to avoid "cheating" you see. ;-> - About the ending i thought the last boss was unexpected. I was expecting something "normal".

I wouldn't call it cheating since rereleases of most retro games have it as a feature. It's basically admission on their part that there was something to fix in the first place. It was a miracle to get a game released back then with the technical limitations, so most games were a broken, buggy mess. No need to subject ourselves to that today.

That said, sometimes I use the rewind function, too. I have the rewind and FF buttons assigned to the triggers, you see. Because my fingers get sweaty when I'm playing games, my finger slips and accidentally hits the rewind button. Especially when I'm fighting a difficult boss or the long tunnel in Battletoads, then my hands get real sweaty and slip a lot. ::winkfelix

None of this is true. Thousands of games were released in the '80s and '90s (I didn't know miracles were so common), in fact it was a lot easier to release a game and required far less time and money, and on average you'd be far less likely to run into bugs than in modern games, particularly anything that would break the game. You have to go out of your way to do dumb shit that only speedrunners would do to encounter significant bugs in most retro games.

Yeah Splatterhouse 3 feels the most like a horror game out of anything I played in that generation, with the cutscenes being pretty creepy. Far more than 1 & 2. I know the SNES had Clock Tower, but that was only in Japan.
