Saturn Saturn Recommendations?

My saturn rom collection just grew exponentially. Thanks everyone!

The data stored on discs is generally in a format called "ISO", while ROMs are primarily on cartridges. 🤓

Most disc-based games here are 7z archives with .bin/.cue in them. ;)

All game files are, by definition, roms. Also, I store my launchbox games in a giant folder called roms. My discs there are in fact all CHD except a few systems like CD32/CDTV.

Just trying to give you a mild heart attack :P

On topic: I don't have any games to add here - I'm sure they're already in the thread - but I wanna say I'm glad that Saturn emulation is great these days. It wasn't always great. I didn't play Shining Force III until like 2019. Same with Policenauts, which is better than PSX btw.

Some other games I tried out were Astal, Mystaria (aka Blazing Heroes) and Legend of Oasis, they were both pretty good for the first few hours but I didn't finish them for some reason.

Most of the popular Saturn games are shmups or other arcade games that i already had on MAME/PSX/etc. but there's definitely some other rare games worth playing

Edit: Forgot Saturn Bomberman, what the hell. How could I!? It's turned into my favorite Bomberman game, barely edging out SB5 on SNES. What an AMAZING soundtrack too.

Policenauts on Saturn is better? Can you share a spoiler free as to why? I haven't played either yet.

Beyond oasis the sequel on saturn is okay, but much worse than it's genesis prequel. I also couldn't finish it.

If i remember it has more content and better sound, sound quality was the saturn's biggest benefit as it had a better sound chip than the psx.

Here's what Spike found out on it in the download link:

Policenauts Saturn version has differences with its PlayStation counterpart:

  • The game's glossary from policenauts.net can be accessed in game by pressing Z or Start buttons.
  • Shooting mode that supports Virtua Gun/Stunner peripheral. You must first clear the scenes ins story mode to access them.
  • More Scenes.
  • Dialog is altered in some scenes.
  • Additional character close-ups.
  • When touching girls breasts they bounce longer...the PSX version has censored bouncing.
  • Bonus videos after completing the game.
  • Anime cut-scenes run at 24FPS vs 15 FPS on PSX, but quality is lower.
Basically you get more boob jiggles which makes it objectively superior.

The best breasts are made of less than 20 polygons.

No, the real reason is the extra content and story. The light gun stuff is cool but you don't get it your first playthru.

Also, can you all recommend me some good begginer shmups on the Saturn? You know, something approachable and not too hard. The genre never clicked with me but now that i've bought this console with so many on it's catalogue i definetily feel compelled to give them another shot.
I love shmups despite not being great at them, I would definitely say Gunbird is the most eminently doable shmup I have on my Fenrir. It has a difficulty setting too, which helps with practicing. I also really love batsugun, not exactly easy but definitely doable and great graphics and music.
