Rumor: PS5/Pro getting up to €100 price increase in some regions (Via French Retailers)

Now there are rumors swirling that Sony's also raising the price of PS Plus.

Charging people to play online is fucking dumb.

Yeah this is insane, at 900$ if i was willing to cut down on a couple things i could build a good gaming pc with used parts, add to that the ps5's rather lackluster first party lineup and i have to wonder what sony is thinking with this.

I should also point out sony claimed they had more than enough memory chips to make it through 2026 without trouble, so either they were lying their asses off or they are doing this just to take advantage of people who haven't bought one yet, tbh if i hadn't by now, i wouldn't buy one.

Well, seeing as the PS5 has fuck all for games, guess they have to make up the difference somewhere... And honestly, looking at the PS5 landscape game wise... well, they better hope the SONY fanboys step in and pony up for their meh-tier console

Don't get me wrong, I used to love the PlayStation brand. That's why I have a PS 1 - 4....

Well okay.... I bought a PS3 and PS4 just to jailbreak them, but I digress. I might buy a PS5 when I find one in a pawnshop for about 60 bucks, like I did with the PS3 & PS4.

- Next PS6 will be better than PS5 Pro (which costs more than 1000 bucks complete), so will you want a PS6 or a PS6 Pro? Get ready for a 1000-1500 bucks bill to get a video-game console to play GTA6...

At this point the entire point of consoles, aka the price of entry, is mostly lost in comparison to pc's and handheld pc's like the steam deck and rog ally, it really makes you wonder what they are thinking because i can put together right now, a pc that would trounce a ps5 pro.

So i did a check and just going to newegg (pc parts web store in the us) i put together, cutting no corners,a pc from cpu, gpu and even the super expensive currently ram, and built a stronger pc than a ps5 for 1218$, if i cut a few corners or if i bought used i could probably get that down to as low as 1000$ or less, this is not even accounting for parts you can reuse like cases and power supplies.

My point with this is, why would any sane person buy a ps5, which is on it's last legs already, over a pc at this point, with those costs you can build a pc or get a pc handheld and unlike in the ps3 and to a extent ps4 era, there's no such thing as "physical" with games these days on consoles.

Now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying people should get pc's (not here at least, though i will say it if asked) my point with this quote is "why" would anyone buy a console at this point, console's claim to fame were ease of use and price, ease is arguably out the window years ago and now price is gone, so what reasons now, ghosts of yotei, heretic prophet?

Within economic therms, there's no point at all at spending more than 1000 bucks in an actual console for less than 5 exclusive games of your choice for the system, call it PS5, Microsoft Series or Switch 2.

For example, in my case, my poor PS5 has been made just to play Gran Turismo 7, Tekken 8, Astro Bot and Spider-Man 2, in addition to the rest of the PS4 catalog ported to the "next-gen" and the fake hope to play GTA 6 some distant day. I'm perfectly awared that that's not worth the money I've invested at "modernize" my gaming and I don't want this to happen to me again for the future PS6.

In my opinion, since this huge pricing gap has appeared and exclusive launchings have decreased and also been ported to PC and the rest of the systems, these huge companies can only force their customers to buy the next gaming console in order to let them preserve all the physical games and digital licenses that they've bough in the past for their previous systems.
As soon as retrocompatibility gets out of the new gaming console, the next-gen will totally fail.
