RPG Maker Classics

If you guys wanna, I have a game called Oracle of Tao.

It was on rpgmaker.net but their certificate has expired, so I'd recommend going to Itch IO instead.

Here's my main page too.

All my games, you can technically pay for (it helps me out), but it's not required. I like Alpaca: Escape For The Butcher's Shop, it's very much a Katamari game. Your alpaca eats meat to make market weight so it can be turned into sausage. If you don't manage that, you get the "bad" ending of only being used for wool.

In the "RPG maker" for Switch I downloaded a free game titled "The Tenth Realm" (I believe there was a section in which you could filter games by title?), not sure how I found it but it was a nicely made rpg; you can choose which area to beat first from a main hub and after every area you get a new character, the level difficulty was well balanced.

I have a massive list of rpg maker games that I either have played/need to or stored on a hard drive. Some of my favourites being, IB(beat 3 times once on my 3ds, now playing the steam remake), mad father(haven't played remake), never beaten yume nikki but thats a whole other off shoot genre of rpg maker games lol, I have loads of different ones on my 3ds, you can find loads of yume nikki fans game; most of em I found pretty great. They sort of like dream explorers is the best thing I could up with as a genre lol. I like Lisa, akemi tan, ao oni, the crooked man, witches house etc etc. I'm probably forgetting some, its such big genre weirdly enough and I bet theres a ton of old and new ones I've not heard about. Need to get back into finding them. Probably a bunch of good ones I'm forgetting.

For some reason, every time I try to recommend Aëdemphia, I keep getting ignored. So I won't even try to sell you on it.
Well, okay.
  • It's been in development since forever
  • Nice art
  • Super fucking long
  • Mixes CRPG and JRPG elements
  • Has (janky, yet cool) fully animated sequences
  • French cartoon vibe, you know the one
  • It's French
  • Only in French
  • Oh...

I've made some really stupid shit for gamejolt and newgrounds on rpg maker

There’s actually a full on Shin Megami Tensei remake on RPGMaker, kinda surprised it wasn’t mentioned

Excuse me, fellas... Totally noob question: I was heavily interested on that "Wind I Creator" game featured on the opening post, but I can't find any info on it.

A little help, please? Looks like it'd be right up my alley.

This look a bit more searching than usual but I believe this is the GitHub page for the game. I compared some of the sprite art to OP's screenshot and it looks to be a match. Let me know if I found the right game or not:

Thanks! I'll have to check as soon as I have access to a computer (so... As soon as I find someone to bother lol), but I really appreciate you taking the time for it!

7th Stand User for sure. Takes during part 3 where your character joins as the 7th Stand User with many events and endings centered around what you do. You can even side with DIO (and betray him if you want). There are custom Stands for yourself and enemy Stand users that you encounter on your way to Cairo. The Stand that you do get can affect certain events or other things and they do play differently.

Anyone have any interest in classic RPG Maker games? Or even just games made on the older versions of RPG Maker?

I just finished off Wind I Creator which is a raising sim made basically entirely in RPG Maker 2003 with the default assets or edits of the default assets. You try to raise an army of clones of this incredibly frail girl so you can use a medicine with a 1/10000 chance of death on her to cure her condition. Was a really fun time with some good jokes, plus it's really interesting how far they can push the engine.

Would love to hear what you've been playing or any of your old favorites!
you wouldn’t happen to have a download link for this game? 🙏 I tried looking for it but I can’t find it, it looks really interesting!

The only one I know that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Middens - Gingiva - Where They Cremate The Roadkill trilogy, the first two games are free. While fairly flawed from a technical standpoint, they are extremely bizarre and dreamlike experiences inspired by collage art. The third game is a personal favorite of mine.

But if I had to choose a favorite RPG Maker game, it ironically would be the original Yume Nikki, a game that isn't a RPG. Other honorable mentions are OFF and Space Funeral, the latter also has a few fan sequels worth checking out.

I preferred some of the weirder more experimental games over the FF-derivatives but a lot of these could become very self-indulgent. I remember really liking The Way games, Yume Nikki (all time Japanese horror classic), Middens, some of Calunio's projects were good too. I really wish I could include Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden but that sadly ended up getting completed in Game Maker.

the way is pretty great. also pretty bad (those early episodes...) but it hits its stride (heh) around episode 4. its really interested to just see, this author's psyche as he makes these games. I think he had some kind of catastrophic breakup during episode 6. The worldbuilding is legitimately interesting, even if it all doesn't amount to much. Something about that series always pulls me back in.

Rhue is also just kind of an interesting protagonist. rarely do you get to play as a guy this unhinged.

I think the thing I really loved about the classic "RMN.net era" was all the really cool experimental stuff.
Stuff that was actually about pushing and refining turn-based RPG systems and the narrative form, too.

Everything made by Craze was cool, short and experimental. Hat Testament: A New World was awesome. Helen's mysterious castle. Grist of Flies. Coats. Cassia. There was a kind of broken but really expansive one that reminded me of fear and hunger, I hope to find again.
Sadly, I don't know where to get many of these anymore (rip RMN), except some scattered about:

Some of craze's work

VGperson translated a lot of good stuff, I recommend Standstill girl and Hero and Daughter

All of sraëka-lillian's earlier works are about cool mechanics and hard fights, and are short: https://itch.io/c/1633273/rpg-studies

L.O.V.E. games (better known for mouth sweet, which is awesome) has rxcovery

Unity's work, especially Wierd and Uncomfortable things

Dominic Esquire made some cool stuff, start with Trash Planet

Wow- I was able to find more than I thought! I hope some of you try these out if you haven't...

Also that Grist of Flies link is from a rpgmaker.net game archive over on archive.org that I just found. Maybe someone else mentioned it, but looks like people tried to move stuff there before RMN.net went down.

Umbral Soul is another banger. I'll probably be back with more, this is like a trip down memory lane!

I'd welcome them, for one ::thank-you
Aight, so, this is a paid title, but...
Horrorvale
Wonderfully thought-out worldbuilding that addresses the videogame mechanics, an unusual elemental weakness system, good art and music, a novel take on an underworld setting, charming and complex cast of characters with 31(28 optional) permanent party members to recruit, a "rescue your kidnapped dog" story that somehow doesn't stop escalating, a great many well-integrated classic horror and early modern internet references, abundant side content including optional party member story arcs and hidden major bosses, the works.
It's unambiguous present obsession material that's Earthbound levels of special.
And it's dozens of hours long.
