So Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 10 a few days ago (with paid support extending until next year)

And truthfully, I couldn't be happier! My laptop absolutely bogs down when updates are being downloaded and installed and I can hardly use it all (and I have a fairly decent laptop, so it's equally ridiculous)

Tiny11 + Debloat11 for those that want to move onto Windows 11...

For those that don't want to move:

- The Extended Security Updates Windows provides
- Switch to Windows 10 LITSC/Windows 10 IoT LTSC
- Switch to Linux (Anything Debian based would be great for those who want something familiar and more mainstream; Anything RedHat (RHEL, Fedora, CentOS) is a bit more involved, and Gentoo for powerhouse users)

The same. I mostly use Macs, but I have one PC Laptop that I use for some occasional editing a print work. When it's update time, I pretty much just have to turn it on and walk away from it for a few hours. It's completely unusable during that time.

Fun Fact - that Laptop is not eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade! But I don't really think I'm missing much. As old and pokey as it is, I can only imagine how Microsoft's AI garbage would bog it down even further >_>

I did get the year of extended updates - for free, as the above user posted. It's usable on up to ten devices, so it'll play nice with my dual-boot Mac Mini, as well. And when that year expires, I'll probably still keep using Windows 10, anyway! Just exclusively offline ;->

Why people is complaining about something that is optional? is like complaining about Edge like you had to use it. Updates can be disabled completely, and no, nothing will happen to your computer if you do it. Also no, you don't need to do complicated things to disable them, you can use a small app called Windows Update Blocker.

I use Windows 10 LTSC and I will continue using it at least until 2030. Windows 11 is the stupidest thing ever and has no sense of existing for the end user, only for Microsoft.

This doesn't inherently affect me since I have been using Windows 11 for who knows how long, but only on my college and gaming laptops. For anything else, Linux is being put on them.

This shitass program is the only reason I can't put Linux on the following laptops: https://parsec.app

Sure it's "supported:" Only client connecting is allowed on Linux and not hosting.

I dunno why people freak out when an OS comes to its end of life.

It has happened to literally every OS so far. Like when Windows Vista, XP, or 7 reached their end of life, it didn't mean you couldn't still use them. Yes, there will be games and programs down the road that Windows 10 won't run, but that's a bit off. Either toss Microsoft a few bucks for more updates for whatever insane reason or just jump ship to Linux.

Now anyway, Linux isn't like it was 10 or so years ago. It's probably more user friendly than Windows to install and use. Yes, there is a learning curve, but that's true for any new OS. You'll be out of your comfort zone, but with a little time, you'll feel right at home. If you get stuck on something, nine out of ten times Google will have an answer for you, along with the countless forums for just the Linux distro you choose.

I have a Windows 10 machine for work related tasks, but unless the higher ups say I have to upgrade to 11, it's not happening, chief.

welll......are you gonna use linux?

oh not to worry i can always switch:

Yeah, I can slap another drive in this or most of my PCs and just set up the PC to let me choose which to boot from if I cared enough to install another OS on any of the systems.

But really I don't need to. If one OS goes derp, it's not a big deal.
I'll just reinstall since I keep everything important on triple backups.

Used Mint for a while and liked it, but it was kind of a hassle to run games

Mine isn't either and it's an Acer Nitro 5 from 2019, which is weird

i wish i can use steam os but it not a linux distro

People like an OS that eats 90% of your ram in the Bios setup?... To each their own, I guess...
Planned obsolesce and e-waste, coming up soon.

I just hope they don't give it the Windows 7 send-off: having it destroy your wallpaper and unable to shutdown as the final patch LOL.
Don't update then, they will just keep breaking it on purpose.

Right now I'm using a recently released custom made W-OS called SenaryOS. I never had a use for most the software and prefer as clean as possible without screwing up app and game compatibility. So far it's nice, smooth and fast, but it's only been a day since I installed. Anyway, there's a whole lot of customs out there, but I've learned that the lighter the OS isn't always the better.

Pretty much. I'd get too paranoid without a couple backups. My ship is full of loot... and trash.

Exactly. Most older OS you can still choose to use and work around the rough spots. Like just yesterday as I was installing a new OS on my modern computer, I was watching Tubi through MyPal with my XP at the same time.

Very cool.
And ya sometimes a medium weight Linux distro is better than an ultra light one, because in the end, unless you are just using it for simple day to day tasks or light video watching, you're going to need a lot of the stuff that isn't prepackaged with the heavier distros.
Bloatware, "cramps" my style.
And everyone else's.
Aside from the aforementioned work related Windows PC, I haven't used Windows on my own systems since Well 7.
