RIP Windows 10

Very cool.
And ya sometimes a medium weight Linux distro is better than an ultra light one, because in the end, unless you are just using it for simple day to day tasks or light video watching, you're going to need a lot of the stuff that isn't prepackaged with the heavier distros.

And everyone else's.
Aside from the aforementioned work related Windows PC, I haven't used Windows on my own systems since Well 7.

Ditto

YES!

GODS >_< Why did you remind me of this movie? You will be receiving my therapy bill in 2-4 weeks

Also, that is the best Signature i have ever read

Oh my, that made me laugh, but good thing the bill will be after the first. LOL. I like how you swab your profile's deck with pirate stuff. So awesome. I always loved pirates, especially pointy ear pirate genies that turn into animals.

Thank you.
Always like to give a good laugh if I can, and well @Stingy Perry gave me the nickname Captain or more often than not Cap’n, not long after I joined the forum, and it kinda stuck since I'm kind of a massive pirate anyway.

And yeah, I like Shantae as well

Btw Microsoft committed genocide after killing Windows 10 a lot of pc which couldn’t met the specs needed for the update died along with it.
Ya'know... Linux doesn't have that nasty habit of leaving old tech in the dust and turning it into e-waste

I dunno why people freak out when an OS comes to its end of life.
I'm "da tech guy™©℗®" to people in my life, even where I work in even though I'm not even part of the IT (imagine me called for a meeting that is concern of the IT team just because "he knows the stuff" and IT guys hissing at me across the other of the huge table lol) so this "end of support" shit make people always bug me and ask this what trivial question: "Will my PC will be infected with viruses". It means they know nothing about computer stuff other using it for simple stuff and accidentally making it explode which they have no idea how they did it lol, so what is unknown make them fear. They are the people update their PC as soon as there is an update so their PC's "defenses" will be up, which is why they curse at Microsoft when support for their OS ends so they feel like a lamb in a jungle being left among wolves so they feel resentful and betrayal and pay for Windows 11 lol.

So I stopped explaining how the internet and viruses work so the end of support does not necessarily mean you will be fucked by viruses, so I just say "well just upgrade to Windows 11" lol.

Honestly I kept my Win7 PC up until 2023 (so when Steam announced it would stop working on it in January of 2024).

Microsoft lying about how Windows 10 was supposedly their ultimate release is something I absolutely dislike though.

I'd swap to Linux but the issue is that it's trickier and more tech-deep.

Mac would require more money and you'd also have to adhere to the ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, iMac, iTunes, iAnything else) since it's made as it in mind.

Microsoft could've had the ability to get the more polyvalent choice while still being user friendly but they just screwed it.

And I was watching a video by Michael MJD (great tech channel btw) and he said that more people are still using Windows 10 than any other OS at the end of it's lifespan

I dunno why people freak out when an OS comes to its end of life.

It has happened to literally every OS so far. Like when Windows Vista, XP, or 7 reached their end of life, it didn't mean you couldn't still use them. Yes, there will be games and programs down the road that Windows 10 won't run, but that's a bit off. Either toss Microsoft a few bucks for more updates for whatever insane reason or just jump ship to Linux.

Now anyway, Linux isn't like it was 10 or so years ago. It's probably more user friendly than Windows to install and use. Yes, there is a learning curve, but that's true for any new OS. You'll be out of your comfort zone, but with a little time, you'll feel right at home. If you get stuck on something, nine out of ten times Google will have an answer for you, along with the countless forums for just the Linux distro you choose.

I have a Windows 10 machine for work related tasks, but unless the higher ups say I have to upgrade to 11, it's not happening, chief.
I feel like people are annoyed because MS have basically locked people out of W11 for 'security issues' and then splashes full-page ads for their new OS version all over the desktop, which makes for a shitty end-user experience. It's also entirely unreasonable to force adverts on people that would also require them to spend hundreds on new hardware for poorly explained and thought out reasons.

Personally, I'm not worried. Even if I want to keep using W10, I can almost guarantee that we'll have a fan-made "black edition" up and running within 6 months that gets community security updates.

Hell, if people are bothered just stop using your W10 for anything you want really secure. No banking. No buying. Do it on your phone (if it's been updated) or do it live. Support is over but the OS ain't going anywhere.

I'm kind of a limited guy, not like the skillful people here. I try to learn stuff as I go, but I think I'm reaching a limit, I'm getting fed up with technlogy.
Sadly I don't have someone of trust and with enough knowledge to help me with this stuff so probably I'll end up giving up and stop using it.
Sigh

Well yeah linux is complicated since it ignores basics & simple things, you'll need a waterfall of patience and determination to adventure linux espically if you lack exp in computer science. i would use mint but sadly it just a brand new pair of shackles encumbering and limiting me badly. i want to use arch but...

Arch: nuh uh uhhhhhhhh you didn't say the magic word. nuh un uhhhh nuh un uhhhh....

Which is why I'm highly considering on digging around in my plethora of drives and adding a second OS to my main PC.

Seriously both of you....

Linux is not hard to install or use anymore. It's as easy to install as any Windows operating system.
Just click a few buttons, type a little information in... way less than Windows asks for, mainly a username, password, your timezone, and your keyboard layout. That's it.

Long gone are the days of having to install everything via terminal, well unless you are going for
Arch (By the way) installing stuff is pretty straightforward as most every distro basically has the equivalent of an app store or Microsoft Store, whatever they call it.

Games really aren't that hard to get to run under Wine, Bottles, or Q4Wine.
If you get stuck on something, do like you would with Windows.... look it up.

Honestly, Linux now is probably more user friendly and God knows, it's less intrusive on your privacy than Windows. I can't vouch for macOS as I have never used it, so...

You don't have to have a computer science degree or be an Einstein-level genius to use Linux. If you can read, follow instructions, and search for solutions on Google, you're pretty good to go with Linux.

When I first started using Linux, about 10 or so years ago, maybe 15, I don't remember now. Yeah, I had no fucking idea what I was doing, but I learned. And if it had been as easy as it is now, then I wouldn't have ever looked back and stuck with Windows 7 for all those years

I know, I understand all that you say, and I think the same, just that I feel rusted and old and don't feel like putting the effort anymore. Perhaps it's my depression.
If I had another drive, I'd try experimenting with Linux. I booted it only a few times with a live image.

@secreto7 @CheesyExplosive
And another thing you don't even have to install Linux....
You can, as the old saying goes "Try before you buy" since most Linux distros, hell maybe all of them will run happily, though with some limitations from a flash drive.

Did you disable safe boot in the bios?
Sometimes you have to do that

And i wouldn't just start with Arch, try something abit more friendly
