RGT's Video Game Trivia

Alright!

1. Guest characters from other games or media have become something of a staple in Fighting Games in recent years, but which character is the first known instance of a guest character in a fighting game?

2. Everyone knows the famous Vic Viper of Gradius fame, but do you know the name of the Player 2 ship from Salamander/Life Force?

3. What is the name of the official Doom map that the Infamous ArchVile makes its first appearance in?
1. Pepsiman
2. The British
3. Circle of Death

1. That, uh, dinosaur that appeared in one of the early Tekkens!
2. No clue so I'll go "Twinbee" (which is probably something else entirely)
3. Circle of Death (I'm no doom guy. Copy/paste answer for process of elimination!)

Afraid it's still 1 of 3, though that does narrow down the correct one, at least!

1. The earliest I can think of is Ryo in Fatal Fury Special.
2. Lord British, like Richard Garriott!
3. Circle of Death, because other people said it!

2 out of 3! and the last one is *damn* close! If no one gets all three before too long, it'll be yours!

I'm going to go ahead and give it to @ATenderLad for 2 out of 3. Number 2 and 3 were right.

1 was damn close, as Ryo was the second guest character in a fighter, featuring in Fatal Fury Special released September 1993. He was beat to the punch by Data East character Karnov, featuring in Fighter's History released March 1993.

Ah, sorry! Merges don't ping, I didn't see your update. That's so tricky with Karnov, that's the one question I was *sure* I got right!

Let's try....

1. Final Fantasy Tactics has a lot of useful (and less useful) unique characters, but you also receive three (human) generics who always have the same names; characters according to the script, but not the game mechanics. Two are named Alicia and Lavian, who's the third?

2. Mega Man X has multiple upgrades to be found, hidden in capsules by Dr. Light throughout the eight Maverick stages. How many are there total?

3. There's new video game movies getting the green light every day now, after Mario pulled well over a billion dollars with a single film! No other solitary movie comes close, but a few franchises do; specifically, there's three other game series with a combined movie gross in excess of a billion dollars. Can anyone name at least two of them?

Finally something I can answer.

1. The Super Squire, Rad!

2. 4 total. Helmet, boots, armor, buster. 5, if you want to count the hadoken secret upgrade.

3. Resident Evil has to be one of them, with about a bajilion movies. Not sure about the second, maybe Tomb Raider?

Yes, yes, and Resident Evil is an acceptable answer! (The other two are Sonic and Pokemon).

I'd say go ahead and take it, your turn!

Alright, here it goes.

1. In the original Metal Gear Solid, Otacon has several posters set up in his office. These can be viewed during the first Cyborg Ninja fight. Which Konami property is referenced in these posters?

2. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin has a connection to an older title in the series. The special move trainer goes by the name of "Wind" but he later reveals his identity. Which game did he come from, what was his full name, and which weapon did he wield?

3. In Final Fantasy VI, in order to escape from South Figaro, Locke has to disguise himself as a merchant and smuggle wine (or cider in the American version) to the weatlhy townsfolk. The traders require him to give a passcode. Which American movie is referenced in the correct localized passcode and which older Final Fantasy title is referenced in the original Japanese passcode?

1. Pretty sure it's Link in Soul calibre but I've already demonstrated my lack of knowledge with fighting games.

2. Easy, it's Richard Garriot ;)

3. E1M11 (does it still count if I know the level number but not the name? ::thinking)

Goddamnit I was so late to the party on this one.

1. Policenauts.
2. Castlevania Bloodlines; Eric Lecarde; Alucard Spear.
3. ...

1. Policenauts
2. Eric Lecarde from Bloodlines, no idea with the weapon.
3. So here it is, my lack of knowledge of FF series finally bite me in the ass, Ima just answer randomly.
Terminator in localized version, FF 3 reference in OG Japanese version.

for 3 i'm gonna guess uhhhhhhh... little house of horrors and ff4?

lol, this is fun. It would be kind of crazy to guess it randomly, so I'll provide a hint. It has to do with a specific type of flower.

I wonder what the fan translated one says when it comes to this section. It's Citizen Kane. Rosebud is in the line up. Glad I could answer one question finally, even if it's a dead horse beating of a joke.

You got it! The original Japanese passcode was "Wild Rose" which was supposed to be a callback to the passcode/name of the rebellion in Final Fantasy 2. Woosley changed it to something the American audience could understand.

I guess you are up, Sir Auriel.

Does that even count if I could only get one of them? @hoy0 got the first 2 first so I nominate them. If not @Prism_Red should go.

1 - One of the bosses in the Western version of Castlevania 3 is named after a demon who also happens to be the antagonist in a very infamous 1970s horror movie. What's the demon called?

2 - At some point in Phantasy Star, your party meets a certain deranged scientist who conducts gruesome experiments on living subjects. What's his name, and what does he ask from the party?

3 - Zeku is a shape-shifting ninja who was first introduced in Street Fighter V. His appearance, move set among other things, imply Zeku is intimately linked to which other classic Capcom IP?

Wow, these are totally outside my knowledge zone! I don't suppose we could get some multiple choice or hints for some of these?

1. I don't know my Castlevania 3. I know the Universal Monsters, but an infamous 70s horror movie? Idk, I'll just guess Swamp Thing.

2. Also never played this. I'll guess his name was Hyde & wanted a volunteer.

3. Capcom has a classic ninja IP!? It's not Onimusha is it?

1. Ah geez, I've played Castlevania 3 so many times back in the day. I can't say I know the bosses names and I'm not familiar with horror movies from the 1970s. I'm gonna go with the only 70's horror movie I know and guess "The Exorcist"! lol.

2. Dang I have the SEGA Ages Phantasy Star on my Switch but I haven't finished it.

3. Strider?

1. Frankenstein!
2. Haven't gone far in OG Phanstar so another wild guess, his name is Bob and he asked for a McRib.
3. Guy from Final Fight?

You got the movie right. But I want the boss' name too!

Not Onimusha. It's much older than that.
