RGT Nostalgia Society #1 - Parasite Eve

It's 6-7 hours dude.
I broke my mind awhile back during my attempt and s8nce haven't been able to process as well. Also like I said, very busy.

I'm pretty sure in Resi the time limits are laughably generous compared with what you get in Parasite Eve
I have only beaten RE1 and it has been awhile: I don't even remember if there is a final chase or not in that one. I think I am going of the avgn episode? iirc he mentions how many of them end with some sort of chase.
It's 6-7 hours dude.
Took me twice that, as you can see from my ending screenshot >_< And I only just finished a couple days ago...
just don't have the time to concentrate on a long RPG these days.
Same, makes me worried about some of the choices for next month, as some of those choices are MUCH longer than this O_o Dunno if my attention will hold out >_< It's hard for me to focus these days. Honestly, this is only the second game I beat this year and it is only cause the thread was kinda fun ^_^

How's everyone getting on? Last day of the month and all that.

I ended up dropping it.

Game has a lot of cool art and a nice vibe, but for whatever reason I just kept sliding off it hard. I think I'm just super allergic to horror games where you're just rubbing up against all edges of the level's geometry searching for a progress trigger.

I meant to go through another New Game + on my file on my PS3, but the whereabouts of my PS3 controller are unknown at the moment. Someday I'll beat the Chrysler Building. Hope at least a few people enjoyed the game, it's definitely unique. Ripe for a remake with maybe another day's worth of content added in my opinion.

I have beaten it four times cuz I was too lazy to farm junk for very long. With the overpowered new game+ weapon you can breeze thru it in just a few hours. This was the first time I did the Chrysler building and I had no idea it added stuff to the story. I consider the first RGT NS a success

Same! That's what I found a little frustrating with the beginning. But (and anyone correct me if I forgot something) after day 3 the game become very straightforward in that regard, imo. I got lost a little in the museum, but stuff like that doesn't bother me that much; I just hate getting stuck because I missed or can't find an item or key...

It's like they gave up on the RE style fetching stuff towards the end?

I want to play the EX game, but I probably won't do it right away. I found the game pretty easy so a more challenging mode sounds appealing. That plus I gotta see the TRUE end.
Chrysler building is not for the faint of heart. I know the month is over but I kept playing, I'll go check out what our second game is soon.

That makes sense, I'll go with that.

Also, wtf? You need this item to mod stuff, but they let you discard it O_o Also why does this item exist in the first place? To piss me off that I need it in my inventory? What were they thinking!?!

This is true! But after opening the chest 10 times, it'll stay open and no longer refills when going back to the map. Same for the medicine chest in the corner
Oh wow they really took care of that part? Square knows how greedy players can be

I must be doing something wrong, ran out of ammo in central park and had to start clubbing snakes to death to leave ::sadkirby
Wha- how the hell does one run out of ammo in this game?

I was so low on health when i got there nearly no medicine somehow dodged em mfs and healed myself then got downstairs and proceed to die 10 times to the boss before figuring you needed to position yourself on his left or right to avoid his attacks

Parasite Eve was a strange game, for me anyway. I actually wasn't going to get it when it came out because I was very anti-real time and would only play turb based RPGs, plus I thought the idea of walking around with a gun killing mutants was action game fodder. But I got bored, and kinda like with Earthbound when it came out, I just snagged it and said what the heck, maybe it'll keep me occupied for a couple days.

Turned out, I loved it. The creepy monsters, the horror story with a big twist, a relatable main character, a challenging bonus dungeon too. It really had everything that scratched my RPG itch and it had such a unique art style and look compared to any RPG out there at the time, except maybe Kouldelka, which was turn based and I was also eventually hooked on too, but that's another story.

It's a shame they haven't made any more entries into it since the PSP one. I think if they remade it a lot of younger folks would get into it and the series would spark interest again.

Parasite Eve 1 is still one of my favorite horror RPGs. Since the game was never released in Germany, it was a lucky coincidence that I had the opportunity to play it when it came out. I stumbled upon it by chance. I used to have a PS1 with a mod chip, which made it easier to have a larger library of games.

The combat system, the music, and the whole Christmas atmosphere are still unmatched for me to this day. The game is also responsible for my desire to visit New York, which I still plan to do :P

For me, it's the best part of the Parasite Eve series. The second one didn't really captivate me, and I didn't particularly like the combat system. I started 3rd Birthday but never really finished it. It's a shame that we'll probably never get a remake of Parasite Eve 1. It's just not popular enough, unlike Final Fantasy, for example.

Man Square really dropped the ball with 2 and 3. I personally love the games and have played and beaten both more than a few times. But the story from 2 to 3 just screams Resident Evil, secret organizations, immortal being stalking you. Which they could have done right, but it really didn't jive with the story from 1.

Then 3, oh boy. I love the gameplay loop and all that. But the story was even more disconnected from 1 and 2. They should've just made a new IP and I don't think it would've gotten as much hate as it did. At that time no one was invested I'm Aya, Eve, or Kyle so it was just nonsensical.

All in all I love all 3 games, but for different reasons.

Unfortunately, that's true. I was shocked when I rented Parasite Eve 2 from the video store for the first time and everything was so completely different from the first part. I think the monsters look totally stupid and aren't really scary at all. Haha, that was probably because someone from Capcom who was involved in Resident Evil switched to Squaresoft and worked on it. 3rd Birthday looked interesting for a PSP title and I played it for a while, but at some point I kind of lost interest in it.

The story in 3rd Birthday really had nothing to do with the old Parasite Eve parts. Aya was pretty cool in the first part, which is why it's still the best for me, at least. It's a shame what happened to the main characters after that, and in the end, they were all just interchangeable. I also think Squaresoft should have just made a new IP out of it, because many Parasite Eve fans were disappointed afterwards, myself included. Unfortunately, I only really like the first one, even though I played through the second one as well. But tastes differ :)

Yeah PE2 got few things right but it's story is just meeeeeh? It's like you ordered discount Resident evil plot.

Something i liked about PE2 was aya finally walks at a decent speed in PE1 you had to run all the time since your walk speed was comparable to a snail , the spell menu was also a huge plus.

OH yeah i didn't figure there was an antagonist in 2 until the end where that soldier dude kidnap eve , i was bracing for the big reveal of the company who made all this instead we got big bad soldier , but honestly the scene with the mutant soldiers and the army was pretty cool

Haha, the story was surely very barebones and pretty nonsensical. You basically only really got a plot at almost at the end of the game.

Oh, that's true, Aya was really slow in PE1, I remember the running was improved in PE2, that's a plus indeed. The spell menu in 2 was also better laid out. In PE1 it was really basic and clunky.

Quite a shame that little eve was included in the end we had a little build up for her character but not much really , the villain was soooo bad eve from PE1 is miles miles better she actually gets enough screen time and felt threatening unlike PE2 villain.

Yeah i was a little annoyed by her walk speed i mean we are supposed to be a trained and physically fit police officer why the hell we walk so slowly? , the spells menu in 2 was what we needed so much in 1.

The game would probably be too easy if the run speed was faster, even if it's slow as shit and tedious outside of battle. If you have Haste on, you can avoid pretty much anything with good timing, and if you don't, some things are just gonna hit you. There's probably a more satisfying balance that could be made somewhere in the middle. It does also nudge you toward having a longer-range weapon and prioritizing which targets to take out first, since once they all swarm you it's hard to avoid taking a hit or two.

Regarding the mentioning of Eve in PE2, I also thought it basically came out of nowhere and it was only shoehorned in just so to say it's a Parasite Eve game. Indeed, in PE2, Eve was just slightly mentioned, but just because.

As mentioned by medisinn, it was probably to up the difficulty a little, and with haste it was really easy to dodge everything. Unfortunately haste couldn't be used outside fights, because the running speed was also rather slow there as well. At least they fixed some in PE2.

Pretty much plays too little role despite her supposed significance i felt like they played resident evil 2 and liked Claire storyline so they decided to make a similar one but it came too late.

Yeah not like these games are that difficult , dodging everything does make you feel badass though

If you see it that way that even makes sense, with the parallels here (Eve and Sherry). In this case, it was way to late as you've already mentioned and it didn't fit anymore and it went into an half baked situation.

Haha, totally agreed, always felt nice in Parasite Eve.

Each of the 3 games are so wildly different. I would have liked a regular sequel for PE1.

The story also goes so awry. Especially in the 3rd game.
