An absurd conversion by Angel Studios (later Rockstar San Diego), converting a 2-CD game (totaling 1.2 GB) into a 64 MB ROM. The video cutscenes were kept, even if at a lower quality. The game looks excellent when using the Expansion Pack, especially on a CRT. MVG made an excellent video about this port for the N64:

I highly recommend watching the embedded video, very informative and entertaining. What they did with the port was literal engineering wizardry, amazing stuff. Developers were actually talented back then. Nowadays we have 200gb monsters that can barely reach 30fps with DLSS, frame generation and God knows what else activated.

Today, companies would insert uncompressed audio and textures and increasing the size to 30 Gigabytes. That's no problem cause of the increased hard disk size in modern consoles (unless you make a port for the Switch).
Games are so poorly optimized these days.

Like, gee, I get to have a 120 GB download because you didn't want to take the time to properly optimize the game assets?

Thanks, I love it.

NGL, I love how crispy and bit-crushed the audio samples are in this version of the game.

The only corner I remember Angel cut was having the same FMV for Claire play when Annette Berkin is explaining how her husband cause the outbreak play for Ada as well, since both FMVs are 99% identical other than the actress's voice. Other than that I think they added more then they cut.

Also the devs would go on to make the Midnight Club series and become Rockstar San Diego assisting with the development of Rockstar North's games before many of it's key people left during RDR2's development.

I agree with you because the Nintendo 64 Port of Resident Evil 2 is an impressive port in terms of storage that went from being 700MB on both discs to only 64MB and also that unlike the PS1 version you can play with Leon and Claire on a single cartridge and also change the color of the blood as Red (Natural Color), Green and Blue (Artificial Colors), etc.
