Hi! I'm somewhat new here, and I'm having a bit of trouble deciding on what RPGs to download. I tend to lean more towards RTC, but turn-based stuff is far more common from what I've seen. I'd like to ask for some recommendations, as I'm sure there are plenty of people here who have played tons of RPGs.

Here's what I've played:
• Star Ocean: Blue Sphere (GBC)
Currently playing, love it so far, and the combat is great.
• Pokémon
Beat every mainline game up to the 3DS era, along with a few GB+GBC rom hacks.
• Time Stalkers (DC)
Never finished, the gameplay was too annoying for me (skill issue).
• SMT Devil Survivor (NDS)
Never finished, guess I just prefer the Persona titles over the general SMT releases.
• Medarot (GB)
Never finished (skill issue).
• Metal Walker (GBC)
Never finished because of annoying encounter rates, but I did love the combat so I might go back to it.

On my list of games to play:
• Devil Children: Kuro no Sho (GBC)
• Dragon Quest 1 (GBC port)
• Pokémon TCG (GBC)
• Lagrange Point (NES)
• SD Keiji: Blader (NES)
• Biomotor Unitron (NGP)
• SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash (NGP)
• Spectrobes (NDS)
• Phantasy Star Zero (NDS)
• Phantasy Star Online (DC)
• Fossil Fighters (NDS)

I know I've mainly listed turn-based titles, but RTC RPGs are kinda hard to find. Regardless of combat type, please recommend some more I can add to my list!

Your pfp made me laugh so fucking hard

Play Final Fantasy 5::chocobo-dance

Also great rec, thank you!
Totally forgot, but if you enjoy monster collecting RPGs, you should definitely check out the Digimon Story games. Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory are both great, and I've heard great things about Time Stranger too, but I can't afford it right now!

Cyber Sleuth is great! I haven't played Hacker's Memory yet, but I do have it on Switch, so I'll get around to it eventually 🙌🏻

I cannot recommend Diablo I and Breath of Fire IV enough for real time and turn-based RPGs respectively.

Emulate the PSP and play:

Star Ocean First Departure
Star Ocean Second Evolution (Blue sphere is the sequel to this)
Tales of Eternia
Ys I & II Chronicles
Ys Oath in Felghana
Breath of Fire III
Lunar Silver Star Harmony
Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection
Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky

NES: Godslayer/Crystalis, Argos no Senshi, Valkyrie no Bouken, Last Armageddon
NDS: Metal Max 2 & 3, Soma Bringer, Summon Night Twin Age, Nostalgia, Dragon Quest V, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles duology
GBC: Final Fantasy Adventure, Telefang, Last Bible I & II
NGPC: Faselei!, Dark Arms Beast Busters, SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash 2 Expand Edition
DC: Grandia II, Shenmue I & II, Record of Lodoss War

if you like real time combat (assuming that's what RTC means),
check out the Ys game series,
there are older games for NES, SNES, genesis, and older consoles even.
there's a whole lot remakes and remasters in Ys games.
definitely check out Ys 1 and 2, where you have NO ATTACK BUTON, think zelda where you just TACKLE everyone to hit them
most of the Ys games are on PC or newer platforms
i'd recommend looking for the older versions of these games:
Ys3, with remake as oath in felghana, the old game is sidescroller, the new one is fully 3d top down
YS4, the remake has a party system, the original absolutely does not, the story isn't even the same!
Ys 5 is really only on SNES, with ps2 remaster (japan only)

have you played Star ocean 2?, just in case you aren't aware blue sphere is a SEQUEL to star ocean 2
the much newer remaster of Star ocean second story R, is AMAZING,
not only a huge improvement to the original game, but also just one of the best JRPGS i've played ever

Namco's Tales of games are very fun if you like more active combat
Tales of Phantasia (the first one) is on SNES and prob one the best SNES JRPGs
WARNING DO NOT PLAY IT ON GBA ITS SO BADLY REMADE,
just play SNES with english patched, OR play it on PS1 english patched
my favorite is Tales of Eternia (PSP, on PS1 NA it's called tales of destiny 2)
there's various games from SNES ps1 ps2 gamecube and onwards

I've never heard of the Ys series, so I'll check it out! Also, I'm definitely gonna add the other Star Ocean games to my list, since I'm genuinely enjoying Blue Sphere
