Puyo Puyo thread

I was looking through my screens on my Switch and I forgot this is what happened if you ever tied in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.

puyo used to be super confusing to me, but at some point it just randomly clicked for me and now i think it might be my favorite puzzle game (outside of wetrix, of course.) i love Arle, i think she's my favorite character. either her or Ecolo, it's a hard choice,,,

I feel a bit embarrassed about playing Puyo Puyo on my nintendo ds in public because of the aura that people would consider too "kawaii" (and yes, I know that
Dr Robotnik's mean bean machine exists)

Sun is the best one, I also like Fever a lot and mainly play the pc port and the ds version. The Gamecube/ps2 version of fever is not very good; the Dreamcast version is the best home-console port.

Mean Bean (Puyo Puyo 1) lacks offsetting, so chains don't remove garbage puyo from the queue; the first one is cute but the series only gets good with 2.

I love Madou Monogatari/Sorcery Saga, I played and finished the pc-98 games and the PC-engine cd remake of the first game (Honoo no sotsuenji), which I absolutely recommend (https://retrogametalk.com/repository/turbografx-cd/madou-monogatari-i-honoo-no-sotsuenji/), I still haven't played Curse of the Great Curry God.
Madou 4 released a few months ago so I'm patiently waiting for a western release, there's no Arle but the new protag seems cute enough, I may just be the only person in my country interested in that game.

Personally I think 20A was the best, with all the rule freedom and every single final boss theme (except Satan's Sun theme) plus some original music. Also because any game with Sticker of Puyo Puyo is peak fiction. When I die, I need a 24/7 extension of Sticker of Puyo Puyo to play in the venue.

Does anyone know if there is a translation of PPF2 on the PSP? I found one for the PS2 version but not for PSP, I did see a post on Reddit saying it existed but can't find it anywhere

Puyo Puyo series has everything I enjoy in puzzle games; competitive versus style, sending opponent 'attacks', chaining combos w/ strategies to perform massive breaks. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo scratched that itch since the 90s, but I'm glad I finally gave Puyo series a shot a few years ago.

I recently played through and completed the original, Tsuu, and Sun on a various systems; MD, PCE, and SAT. Here's my brief takeaway of each compared to the Mega Drive release:

CD(1) on PC Engine CD-ROM²

Pros - Higher quality voice samples than MD, tighter controls.
Cons - Less detailed sprites, garbage blocks drop at lower speed.

Tsuu(2) on Sega Saturn

Pros - High quality sprite animation.
Cons - Music is louder then voice samples.

I still need to play ~n (4) on Dreamcast soon enough. Personally prefer this series over Tetris and other block stacking puzzle games, since it gives you the freedom to create devastating chains to attack & counter-attack your opponent with done in a fair way- having the essence of a traditional 2D fighter. I'll eventually get around to play the spin-offs, and perhaps SEGA's 'modern' games of the series in due time.

Puyo-Puyo Sun on the Saturn ate up so many hours of my life when I first modded my Saturn back in like 2015.
I play the DS version of Fever a lot still and the fan translation of the RPG on the 3DS, too.
Good stuff.
