This game needs a retranslation, so bad.

There is a true final boss? I finished the game once. Now I feel left out!Parasite Eve my beloved. The chrysler building sucks but the true final boss was worth it.View attachment 282
gotta check this one out, the cover art looks sick! i'm gonna play some before classI'm a sucker for monster-collector style stuff.
Jade Cocoon was a rad time!

(minus the tank controls, lol)
Currently playing through this one and really liking it. The battle system is unique and I'm enjoying that aspect of it. The upgrading weapons and armor system is new to me though, I'm a little hesitant to use my tools. Oh yeah, and the music's great too. Just reached Day 5.Parasite Eve my beloved. The chrysler building sucks but the true final boss was worth it.
I beat the first Wild Arms earlier this year and loved it. It was a game my friend had, and I got a chance to play a bit of it back when released and always liked the atmosphere, but didn't get my own copy until a few years ago. Looking forward to checking out this one too.my fav jrpg in the system
Love the art style in most of Camelot's titles. The box art alone attracted me to this one. This is another game my friend had, and I got a chance to play a bit of it, but I haven't beaten it yet.We had this at home, I hope it qualifies. It wasn't great but not too bad either.
Great taste. For me, it's SuperRoboZ.Suikoden and FF7 were my favorite PS1 games for a long time. Now I prefer Tactical RPGs, so I'm dreaming of a translation of Shin Super Robot Taisen.View attachment 1047
Grandia and Lunar were the gold standard JRPG back in the 90s.My favorite PS1 JRPG is Grandia!
originally released in Japan on Sega Saturn in 1997
the English release was for PlayStation in 1999
Woah there... Not Squaresoft games?Grandia and Lunar were the gold standard JRPG back in the 90s.
I think for standard JRPG formula, Grandia and Lunar were both perfect games. They had a classic heroes journey tales with a great battle system that anyone can enjoy.Woah there... Not Squaresoft games?
That's a very hot take my friend!
Although I do agree that the Mega-CD version of Eternal Blue was absolutely exceptional in it's day. I got it shortly after release and it still remains one of my favorite JRPG's to this day.
Ah, I see you are mostly talking about the PS1 era. But don't forget Square was also leading the fray on 16-bit consoles during the 90's.I think for standard JRPG formula, Grandia and Lunar were both perfect games. Squaresoft was a monster too back then but for a different reason. They were extremely experimental and made some of the most unique games, but I wouldn't call them "classic" JRPG. Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Front Mission 3, Xenogears, etc...all amazing games but all so different in their own ways.
I'd always heard this sucked whenever anyone talked about it. Because of that, I've never played it.View attachment 167
Always gets overlooked due to Square's other games, but a great game with branching paths and tons of replay value.
They said they're looking for ways to "present this to a new generation" without being like FFVII remakes. We'll probably see Chrono Trigger remade in the style of a Secret of Mana remake, or Link's Awakening remake.I wonder if Squenix has any inkling to continue the Chrono series at all.
Picked that game up years ago but never gave it the attention it deserves. I've heard it's worth a play.Started playing this a couple years ago but I never got around to finishing it, I first played it on a demo disc way back when.
I honestly couldn't get into FF7, maybe because I didn't actually own it on the ps1 originally. But Legend of Dragoon sunk its hooks in me. I need to go back and finish it.
There's a really cool reverse-engineed engine project called Severed Chains for PC that does a bunch of stuff like Bugfixes and QoL Features. Some folks might be interested in checking that out.Started playing this a couple years ago but I never got around to finishing it, I first played it on a demo disc way back when.

Camelot also made the original "Shining" games, and you can see some of that in Beyond the Beyond too. Such as the chests looking very similar, and also similarity with the GUI and general aesthetic etc.Beyond the Beyond was so stinky I had to stop playing after a few hours and remove it out of sheer disgust. It'skind of amusing that Camelot worked on this as they later went on to make Golden Sun, this really has none of what made that good. I can see some of the DNA is there already, in a sense....maybe....not really.
Just a PSA to stay the hell away from this if you haven't played it.
