Okay so if you don't know I am an aspiring game developer and as my first game I want to make a purely text based visual novel, it will be a drama for the first 3/4 of the game and the rest will be a post-apocalyptic story with multiple endings, from the last update that I posted on my profile I came up with this.
I have picked my engine: RenPy
I picked this since it is free and beginner-friendly.
Game story background:
Now for the story background, PLEASE leave questions and critiques in the comments I would really appreciate it. Today I will only tell the story that happened before the game's actual plot.
First I need to go on a tangent about biology there are three domains of life (at least I think, there are some sources that say that there are only two) Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya. Bacteria is self-explanatory, it's bacteria, Eukarya are animals, plants and fungi (among others) and Archaea is closer to us than bacteria but are still unicellular. Well in Eukarya there sits four kingdoms at least to my knowledge, Animals, plants, fungi and this funny group named Protista, well people now speculate that an organism we thought to be a fungus is actually its own thing, so a fifth kingdom could be a thing.
And that organism I mentioned is Prototaxites (I'll have some pics at the end), it lived during the Silurian and into the Devonian where it died off. Well in the universe of the game, it actually didn't die off but just downsized and alter on evolved primitive hive intelligence, it survived the Permian mass extinction by riding the brains of Lystrosaurus where it evolved more and producing 3 queens, these four queens HATED each other.
This started an arms race where each queen attached herself to other animals and controlled said animals to evolve into enormous dangerous beasts, this brought on the age of dinosaurs, now one of the queens was badly losing so she came up with an idea, what if she just flew into space and crashed a meteor into the Earth to wipe out all life, if she can't have it, no one can.
After everything was done and dusted, the two other queens survived, the third queen laid an egg before she used all her remaining energy to go to space just in case her journey wasn't successful, the two other queens resigned to a deep sleep to recover, in that time the egg hatched, and the young queen possessed a portion of the mammals.
When the two other queens awoke they quickly realized that a third queen had reappeared and were severely weakened by the meteorite, and so they made the decision to see if an intelligent species would arise and that came with humanity, they started to slowly erode the third queen's control over her subjects but quickly realized that somehow half of humanity were immune to all 3 of the queen's control.
The third young queen was mentally damaged during the meteorite impact and didn't see the problem of her control being taken away from her subjects, she just thought that happened naturally and why even hassle with all of it when it isn't bothering her. That was until 1st January 2008 when everything went down hill.
While all this happened humanity evolved and those who had them actually gained powers from the queen cells, invisibility, mind control and shapeshifting, depending on which queen gave you the cells.
These powers were mostly used to dominate the unpowered individuals who became subservient to those who had them.
Each power also varies in usability, invisibility users are the most common to see since it just requires basic focus to keep it going, mind control requires a lot of brain power and a short physical contact with the target's forehead period, but the worst one is shapeshifting, it is REALLY painful and can kill you if you do it incorrectly, so almost no one uses it nowadays but back in the day it was the most common.
