This. Mainstream music has never been worse. Just the absolute worst pop and rap to cater to the lowest common denominator. While that's always been a factor, a lot of artistic and talented musicians made it into the mainstream in the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and even the '00s. Now it's just god awful shit for stunted plebs.

While that's always been a factor, a lot of artistic and talented musicians made it into the mainstream in the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and even the '00s. Now it's just god awful shit for stunted plebs.

People younger than me may say it is because of my age or "i don't get it", I know people older than me in the 90s probably didn't get The Offspring, Rancid, Blink 182, etc but I loved (and still do) listening to music from the 80s all the way down to blues of the 1920s and even further back with the works of some of the greatest classical composers of all time so I do not think this is a generational thing. Music today just plain sucks and I say that about bands I loved growing up, it seems like the record companies just want this one sound and the musicians have sold out to join in with making that same sound.
Just listen to the top 40 charts (or whatever it is in your country) and it sounds like you are just listening to one long, long song, doesn't matter if the band or musician claims to be a certain genre, they all blend together. Awful to listen to, at least in the 90s when you heard the charts you heard actual variety from Britney Spears to NOFX, Backstreet Boys to Metallica. 2020 absolutely changed the industry, all these musicians got together to record these songs while we weren't allowed out of our homes all while tugging each other off.
A side note, when I saw The Offspring to a performance Ed Sheeran last year I was done, I have been done with Green Day for a long time, they claimed to have moved to that "American Idiot" sound because they didn't want to make the same record over and over again which I get however every record they have made since that album has sounded the same as that album.

I hate El chombo, He thinks he's a great musician, but his music is garbage. But what irritates me most is that he talks about musical genres like he's an expert. I'll never forgive him for what he said about metal.
