Had some g gundam screenshots (<3 g gundam) and was bored, and the thought just occurred to me. It was probably explained, but I thought it was funny...

....I have zero clue why this got stuck in my head, buuuuut the Gundam Fight was an alternative to war in the setting of G Gundam. It's reasonable to assume mobile suit technology was developed for the purpose of conflict with other colonies orbiting Earth, and we might assume that most of those governments still insist they have that capability "just in case".

We need a gundam expert ;_; I have seen that scene made fun of before in image macros which made me notice when scrolling through my screenshots, but I didn't recall the reason. I don't know if it had to do with something else from the story or if it was because: why would earth combat mobile suits work in space?

The boring answer is because that's how the Gundam worked in 1979! My big nerd answer is that they were probably being tested in space to begin with, as the colonies probably aren't *that* large.

My fun nerd answer is that it's just hot-blooded martial spirit overriding trifling design shortcomings!
