Rather ambitious
For now I'll replace the original rom with this one
Though yeah obviously there are flaws with this ~
Like how there's actual frame-drops in certain areas ( or feels too sped up ie: Lugia at the title screen )

Gonna tolerate the black void part just because I'm aware you're technically in a designated 'area' so it's not like we're supposed to see what's beyond Pallet Town -> Route 1 per se ~

So overall ... just a bit irked by the FPS part ... I would've left that alone
Otherwise it's fun ambitious !
You should play Pokemon Heart&Soul for the GBA. It is this but all of the flaws gone and graphics are way better including even in battles.

About the game:

Features

  • Generation 1-3 Pokémon, plus their later gen evolutions (excluding the Regis and Jirachi)
  • Full Johto story and Kanto postgame from HGSS, including the Kimono Girls and Eusine
  • Following Pokémon
  • Overworld background Pokémon allow you to easily see the notable encounters on each route
  • Overworld background Pokémon in cities, towns, or areas with no encounters are just for the vibes
  • Day/Night System with variable encounters
  • Dynamic overworld palettes
  • HGSS Music
  • Highly varied trainer teams and encounters, based on Crystal Legacy
  • HMs do not need to be taught to a Pokémon in order for it to be used
  • Apricons replaced with berries, Kurt will use them to make unique Pokéballs
  • Timekeeping does not track days of the week, Everything is progression based
  • 16 Gym leader rematches
  • Two Safari Zones
  • Unique surfing Pokémon sprites
  • Customizable shiny rate
  • Physical/special split is toggleable
  • Fairy type is toggleable
  • AutoRun and FastSurf are toggleable
  • Quick run from wild battles using button combination
  • Ball prompts for quick catching
  • ... and much more!

Differences from GSC/HGSS

  • Radio is a standalone Key Item with limited functionality instead of a menu in the Pokégear
  • Trainers will not offer their phone numbers, no way to rematch them
  • Greatly improved level curve
  • Apricorns replaced with berries, berry ball catch boost is based on Type
  • Strength boulder-in-hole puzzles replaced with Emerald Mach Bike puzzles
  • No itemfinder and no hidden items - Only 50 TMs (The ones from emerald)
  • Swarms are replaced with a 5% Hoenn encounter on each route in Kanto
  • Mom does not take your money
  • No unique Kanto battle music trainers or gym leaders, only Johto
  • Ruins of alph back room requirements are slightly altered
  • No pokéathalon dome
  • No battle frontier
  • Yes battle tower (ported straight from emerald, and not extensively tested so be careful)
  • No trades in Kanto

Yeah, no, that's bad.

Definitely. There's literally cheat codes that do the same things, but at least you can turn them on and off. Stuff like this shouldn't be on the repo imo.

Appreciate your feedback.
There's a niche for this kind of hack.
Not everything has to appeal to everyone, so if it seems of no interest, the best course of action is to ignore and move on to the next game.

Interesting hack but admittedly, visually; it's pretty rough. The warble effect of the 3D is not a good time.

I'm more interested in the '60fps in a pokemon game' aspect of this (I'm pretty sure no other nds hack has done this?). Very cool idea there. I almost wish that was the focus here and maybe some more concrete QOL. The ability to turn random encounters off and on feels a bit gimmicky when repels exist/some hacks actually have an infinite repel thing so this has been done before of course.

Would encourage the author to put this on pokecommunity/hackdex though fr!

Is it possible to have random encounters or is there no way to toggle it back? It kinda hurts the enjoyment when you can just chose to battle whenever you feel like it. That's true for any rpg honestly. Like all sense of anticipation and urgency is removed without random encounters. It's fine to not have random encounters in games like Chrono Trigger or others where you can see the enemies before battle, but not for games that intended to be random.
It's doable, but would be too much trouble to change or replace only one feature. I mostly share these hacks for people that have similar tastes to mine, that like rpgs but are not fans of random battles.
When i posted a DQ9 hack, people also asked me to toggle off one or other feature, so it just isn't viable to try to attend every playstyle preference.

well, it definitely ruins the experience for me. hgss was not designed to be viewed from these angles, and it shows, since objects that were originally outside the field of view now block your character from sight. it looks cool at first glance, but in practice the game feels very awkward, and not in a good way. this mode feels more like a curiosity than something i would actually want to play with.
That's a shame.
Well, the original game is still there.

- The black background is normal when the rest of the map unloads. No issue there.
- The trees in the second picture are not distorted. I thought it would be really bad, unplayable broken graphics. And yeah, things that exist in front of you will obscure your vision 🤣

a good example is right in the first town, new bark. the background is entirely missing, because, well, we're not supposed to view the map from these angles.

notice the trees in the background.
also, it looks like a tree is blocking your way to cherrygrove (it's not, but the new camera angle makes it harder to see it).

another example of the distorted camera angle ruining the gameplay.

the camera angles get distorted in various routes, cities, and gyms, making some areas look incorrect or stretched.
Never happened to me. Can you provide screenshots?

What do you mean by "distort places"?
That is something that happens in pokemon Platinum 🧐

i don't recommend this hack because the 3d mode kind of distorts a lot of places in the game, since the game isn't designed to be viewed from these angles. also, 60fps mode is kind of bugged: outside of battles, it only works if you have less than three pokémon in your party (tested on melonds and dsi xl with twilight menu; twilight menu's 133mhz mode handles it a bit better, though. why anyone would like to play hgss on turbo mode is anyone's guess).

That said, i did a full playthrough on pc using no$gba, sometimes alternating saves with my ds lite using an R4, had no problems at all.

HOLY FFFFFF!!! This is epic, testing it now!!

Does anyone else have the game moving super fast? It looks like Lugia is swimming for his life!

Almost perfect, need to fix the (pop up?) in the 3D world. Also game is running at double speed...is this true 60FPS?
That is the normal behavior of the game, that is the world loading and unloading chunks of the map that are not needed anymore. You're not supposed to see what would be outside of the screen and unused geometry. Modifying that would cause slowdowns.

And yes, 60fps means a faster game. The game physics and speed is tied to framerate. For people that like quick battles, it feels ideal, while also compensating for possible slowdowns due to the overworld larger field of view.
