[Playstation] Langrisser V English Patch

To make folks aware, it seems it was MTL.

It is what it is. If it can be played and understood it is better than nothing. The creator said he was open to collaborating with a Japanese translator so maybe somebody should contact him.

The current problem with AI vibecoded tools is that most of them were limited in feature to edit the script manually in case you want to proofread/clean up the text. The moment you add too many/too few lines/characters the whole thing breaks too easily. This is especially true for most retro games up until PSX which are size-constrained and usually has few to no empty spaces to add more things.
Using other people's custom-coded app had similar problems in that most people who used their personal tools oftentimes hacked various things in the roms themselves as well which could be unfortunate for the less knowable as they had no other means.

Really hope they'd come back and fix it in the near future for maximum enjoyment experience.

This translation is apparently such slop that Romhacking.net is disabling ai translations from being downloaded from their site going forward.

I've tried to play through it. The actual story text translation is pretty decent and legible enough imo, but they dropped the ball on the UI elements and probably a lot of the terminologies too.

Methinks the translation really needed that human editing pass. It's still quite a marvel for a supposedly pure AI translation despite all its flaws, but yeah, I think it needs a little bit more cooking from actual human translators before I could fully recommend it.

I wonder if the creator even bothered to find someone to proofread it. I don't know why would anyone go through all the work to hack the game and not put in the extra mile to polish it.

Anyway, I beat warsong and Langrisser 4, halfway through Langrisser 2. Then I'll finish 3. By the time I get to 5, hopefully someone proofreads this thing.

Thank you very much to the coder and hacker nE0sIghT for completing this translation.

The amount of labor and effort to make the technical and coding aspects of this patch must have been tremendous - according to all the work described in the GitHub, even with the Lang 3 toolkit.

Given that this game is already 25+ years old, I am fairly sure that without this patch, we would not be seeing this game translated any time soon.

I hear that the AI translation is quite good, which makes it an even better surprise. If AI can bring this level of quality to translations, then I'm looking forward to seeing more games translated this way.

Scripts like these are book-sized, and usually take years, if at all, to translate.

I don't think we will be seeing anyone bring forward a human-translated script any time soon, but if anyone is interested in doing that, I think the coder has provided the translation files in GitHub.

Thanks again for this gift.
