PlayStation apparently forcing 30 day license verification on new purchases

I haven't even commented here yet, I just want to know how the game issue will work. Do we have to check every day or only once a week? Have a great day, my Friend
No. If you buy a digital game on PSN from now on, it will play for the first month on a temporary license. Afterwards you'll have to log in on your console to get the definitive license to be able to play that game anytime, without needing to connect further to the Internet. That's how it's supposed to work.

Have a great day too! Have fun with your PlayStation, man!

Thank you for your help, I was worried. I'm also relaxing a bit afterwards.

It's already happening. The question is if they're going to step down or not
I don't mean any ill will towards any of the companies since they aren't worth that much attention.
But my hope is that this blows up and burns them so hard that it sends a message to the rest of the industry not to try this again, but who am I kidding..

True, that would be great. The sad thing is that most gaming companies are run by non gamers, so they don't give a crap if their decisions are anti consumer

The temporary license put on digital games will become permanent after the refund time period has passed (14 days). And you have from then on till the 30th day to log in to PSN to have your game's license automatically updated to a permanent one, so you can play the digital game whenever you want without needing to connect to the Internet further. If you don't do so, you won't be able to play the game after the 30th day.

That sounds atrociously convoluted for a product you've legally obtained...

This sound extremely obnoxious and anti consumer, not to mention the fact Sony can lock your game without you even knowing
Unfortunately not enough backlash, because your modern consumer don't care about anything and love to be fucked in the ass by corporations

Yeah, to "end piracy", when after a year or more someone will find a way to jailbreak the console ::eggmanlaugh
I also remember when some were against PC gaming (and making PC ports of console games) because "it will promote/facilitate piracy" when in fact Steam helped reducing it.

It feels like it's the first step in PlayStation deciding how you'll play the games you bought in their ecosystem.

Yeah, the amount of corporate ass kissing has been off the charts!

I'm really longing for PS2/PSP era Sony...
I've stopped buying PlayStation consoles and games. PlayStation is not for the gamers anymore. It's for shareholders and activists.

I'm not surprised by the move nor the semi-climbdown they've done with it. Sony have been, for a long time, proving they're not actually for the consumer or gamers. This back pedal on the whole Xbox One win they scored is just another strike on a long list.

I don't think anything they could do at this point would ever make me purchase one of their modern devices nor their games. The Vita was the last straw for me and they've not changed their philosophy of dropping anything on launch that doesn't immediately shoot a red line through the ceiling. I even almost fell for the PS Classic, and when the news started pouring out about it I cancelled that order I'd put in immediately, then got it on clearance for what it was truly worth for the 'love' and 'care' they put in; about $35.

So it was a nothing burger blow it out of proportions by people.

In the end this just another answer to the millenial question:

Can Sony code a working online store/service?

And just like 2007 the answer is no

If that is the way you want to look at it.

Nobody lost anything, there is no 'connect every 30 days or we will take your games', and no secret plan, just Sony hiding their incompetence

Not exactly. There is a new DRM. It wasn't a bug. And there was/is the silence from PlayStation and the underhanded delivery of that DRM to their customers. All points to PlayStation not caring much about its customers and trying to exploit them increasingly. This is a stark proof of the enshittification of the brand. A wise person would take their entertainment needs elsewhere.

Also the silence still from PlayStation to its customers can be taken as PlayStation seeing how this plays out.

All and all there is more that incompetence at PlayStation. Seems to be callousness, cynicism and a predatory mindset. They just don't seem to care about their customers.

Bro stop twisting the reality. The guys are just dumb, not evil like Nintendo.

The only DRM is just a check after a purchase because people had an exploit of the 14-return-day-policy they had in their store. It check if you havent return it and then it gives you a permanent one. Why they didnt share with the world? Because everyone will do this (And probably more than one are doing this right now to find a new exploit). A DRM would have periodically check of the license which is not the case, at least on this.

And about the wise peoples, move to where?

- Steam? A walking DRM platform (with the exceptions of companies that just didnt bother to implement a good control)
- Nintendo? That sues the competition with patterns, copy strike users and charges you for upgraded version of backwards compatible games (Stuff that Sony and MS dont do)
- Microsoft? I mean... like really? They are just putting a show so people dont jump boat and before we know it they will return to their usual mischief
- Or again to Sony? That clearly can code a Store and sold the gold mine that where their Japan Studios for GaaS?

Stop seeing monster where there are only windmill. I told you before: this was nothing more than a nothing burguer:

- Nobody lost anything
- It was never a DRM to be implemented with periodically checks

The guys are just dumb, not evil like Nintendo.
That's the same company that cleaned Xbox out of the market. They have made many mistakes, but they're still on top.

because people had an exploit of the 14-return-day-policy they had in their store.
You didn't learn that from PlayStation. You probably read that from someone else not affiliated with PlayStation. As all the information coming out from PlayStation was from a supposed PlayStation representative talking to Gamespot. PlayStation doesn't seem to care much for their customers except when it's checkout time.

Because everyone will do this
Not people that buy their games and take their consoles offline. Like I generally did, but now I'll just play my collection offline, which thankfully it has more or less all I want, and watch it all play out from the sidelines.

A DRM would have periodically check of the license which is not the case, at least on this.
DRM stands for digital rights management which this pertains to.

And about the wise peoples, move to where?
Wise people are going retro. They are ditching current gen bullshit and enjoying classic games and indies. Especially nowadays there are many ways to enjoy them without being bothered by big companies or breaking the bank. The current gaming market is a dumpster fire.

That said, Steam may be a "walking DRM", but they are much more customer-friendly than PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo. There's a reason why there's the phrase "Steam does nothing and wins." If there's a company imposing some standards on the gaming industry and doing something consumer-friendly, that's Valve.

But you do you.

Thats not a big feat tbh, MS managed to destroy the most recognizable IP (Halo) even if their fandom show up every time they spit in their faces.

And you think the other do? Ok, lets make a simple check list:

- Sony still press for physical releases, not like MS or Nintendo that cheaped out on their 'download' only cards
- First one to agree on letting FFXIV players dont pay PS+ if they pay the game sub (Nintendo forced for a distinct sub, so they can get their cut)
- idk if you have tried it, but Dual sense is a joy, and it is not $100 bucks like the Steam controller. The only shame is that devs barely use it.

There is a nice change in management since they move the leadership out of LA, and they still suck in many things. But 'Sony dont care about their customers...' is just ridiculous. They are all big corpos, they dont care (Yes, Valve too).

Not people that buy their games and take their consoles offline. Like I generally did, but now I'll just play my collection offline, which thankfully it has more or less all I want, and watch it all play out from the sidelines.
By stadistics throw by Sony themselves a couple of years ago, not few people play offline. And if they could just save 75 bucks, they would. There is a reason they patched this.

DRM stands for digital rights management which this pertains to.
You know exactly what I meant with this, so dont play dumb.

You know want to escape to "ackshually, this is a DRM", which is technically truth but you know damn well I was talking about the DRM systems that just periodically checks licenses so they can caught pirates. This is not the case, checking once and never again.

Wise people are going retro. They are ditching current gen bullshit and enjoying classic games and indies. Especially nowadays there are many ways to enjoy them without being bothered by big companies or breaking the bank. The current gaming market is a dumpster fire.
And I agree, I also got tired of new games that demands I do my homework before this weekend or I will lose stuff, war games that doesnt feel like a war with all the cosmetics, online games that plays tricks on me so I got hocked on rather than just put engaging content.

There is a reason Im here.

Oh yeah, the Valve that told a guy he couldnt use his passed away father account since accounts where nontransferable. That valve.

And that phrase got me tired. Valve fucks up, and a lot. I have a SteamDeck and use it a lot, and the amount of poorly performance of the software sometimes pisses me off. It will be funny to see how people defend the Steam machines, which probably nobody will use them but claim their are a success do they dont bother the cult.

This white knighting of Steam will bite all gaming in the ass, sooner than later. And people will have to think hard on who they can blame.

But you do you.

And I guess you be you: keep seeing monster where there is only water so you can screams "Wolves! Wolves!" on places like this. I told you before, this is a nothing burger but since it didnt fit the narrative, like people resenting the clock of their consoles knowing well it will cause issues (hardware with bad dates usually have bad resoults. Specially in the world of licenses).

But I dont know what else to tell you besides remind the actual facts and less speculation:

- Nobody lose access to anything
- There is no a DRM system to check licenes

In other words: what happen?

Nothing

So it was a nothing burger blow it out of proportions by people.
It was not nothing burger are you insane?
Instead of getting hit in the balls every 30 days you only going to get hit once, such a great deal thanks Sony
Why do i need to confirm any license after i already purchased game? Why do i need to wait to confirm license? Why can sony do this without notifying anyone? Why was there zero communication from sny?
DRM is bad and the fact sony pushing it should be concerning, not to mention because of people like you they will try to push it even harder in the future

In the end this just another answer to the millenial question:

It's not a nothing burger, it's the slippery slope.
The reason why they are doing it is likely to prevent refund fraud, however it only takes a foot in the door for it to get out of hand, DLC and microtransactions are examples of the slippery slope not being a fallacy, but a fact.

Truth is if there wasn't outrage sony would probably have done it long term and if someone eventually noticed, they could claim "it's been this way for a while and no one cared".
This is all preparation for the ps6 having no disk drive and console drm btw, but unlike pc, it's alot harder to crack console drm due to how locked down they are, at least for normies, to backup their games.

It was not nothing burger are you insane?
Did something happen? No
Is this just a first step into DRM hell? No, is only one check which is hardly a DRM checker. If I want to install my physical copy of Half-Life 2 I would need to validate the license/CD-Key on each install.

Instead of getting hit in the balls every 30 days you only going to get hit once, such a great deal thanks Sony
Why do i need to confirm any license after i already purchased game? Why do i need to wait to confirm license?

Because Sony is incompetent when it comes to online, they are just half-step higher that Nintendo.

And lets just not hide around the bush: you not only bought a digital license for your account, you also downloaded the game. It would be a stretch for Sony to just assume you can connect you console to PSN just one last time 14 days after the purchase.

Why can sony do this without notifying anyone? Why was there zero communication from sny?

If you know anything about platform that moves millions of dollars a day are just going to openly say "Oh yeah, we have an exploit that probably cost many publishers a lot of money. Wupsies!". they could either sue you or just skip your platform. Valve constantly patches exploits and bugs since its debut.
not to mention because of people like you they will try to push it even harder in the future

Like what? People that actually have some kind of critical thinking and try to actually get things right or at least take a time to think about, instead of jumping to the current popular thing exclaiming "Companies bad!" so they can farm internet points/reactions/attention?

It's not a nothing burger, it's the slippery slope.

Do you even know what a slippery slope is? There is nothing here, just an obscure system screen, from a last gen console, backed up by people that knew changing the date of their systems will just mess up anything related to online purchases (Dating is KEY in ALL online transactions). Lets just make a simple though exercise:

Will you just believe me if I tell you that RGT will be just putting a premium features to all 'supporters'? This will include: more forum post, best download speed and even special content of the Repo only available to supporters? I will even back this up (Something that none of you had done) by stating that supporters already have special features like style, pfp effects, etc.

I think you would agree this doesnt make sense with how the admins behaves and how people will just leave? The same applies to Sony, they know they are not running alone in the market.

DLC and microtransactions are examples of the slippery slope not being a fallacy, but a fact.
I dont understand the connection between DLC, Microstransactions and your slippery slope. That DLC are cut content? We know that since the OG MW2 and stuff that was inside the disc. That microtransactions ruins game aesthetic and become cash grabs? We know that since the iphone app, and even before that with the F2P corean MMORPG. So idk whats the slippery slope, all have proven stuff. Not exaggerations.

We all knew what was going to happen when developers include these features, we just jumped and lie to ourselves wishing that, 'maybe it wouldnt be that bad' (CoD, Halo, BF6 recent examples).

This is all preparation for the ps6 having no disk drive and console drm btw, but unlike pc, it's alot harder to crack console drm due to how locked down they are, at least for normies, to backup their games.

Ok, so now this is actually really funny. A doom post out of thin air. So lets thought about this for a little:

Sony already try to force a full digital console: the PS5 slim. Evidence suggest that they wanted to just offer the digital as the only option with maybe the disctray as an expansion, but somewhere down production they realize "Oh shit, people love physical media". And they slapped it a made the other alternative.

Whats my base to say this? That oddly all PS5 Slim that comes with optical media needs to pair them on first boot. Now, the funny thing is that they update this and recent batches of PS5 slim have the disc tray already paired, really weird thinking it wasnt the case on the first ones.

Will the PS6 have an 'digital only' version? Absolutely. But from recent reports from Sony they know there is a big interest in full physical media, and leaving this will just bite their asses when the kind of DRM comes next year (Steam machines).
--------------------------------------

But thats is, this is getting boring having to reply to the same made up scenarios with little to no critical thinking behind it. I get it, you guys got scared out of nothing, but like I said before, nothing would happen, it didnt make sense on a legal aspect and also on a business level.

You guys still insists on this 'the end is near' with little more than a 'Trust me bro', and Im not talking about sources, just some kind of coherent though lines. The facts are these:

- Someone posted an obscure system screen of a past gen console
- People over reacted saying this will be an always DRM check that will slave us all!
- I tell you guys to calm down, it is nothing. There is no evidence or sense in Sony doing this <-(most important event in human, btw)
- Attention doomers try to 'prove' this by messing the date of their system (Again, date is a CRITICAL part in online purchases and digital stuff)
- Information surge that this is nothing more than Sony covering a really bad thing for their stores, so they try to keep is as a secret
- No body lost any game
- People got their unlimited licenses
- People still refuse to accept this and made mental gymnastics to someone deny the rest.

And I know you guys and even more will just 'I wont read this long post' like this is high IQ move, rather than just proven than you are not only blind, but also lazy. But I do hope that if someone reads this, at least it keeps its mind open and just dont jump into the 'SONY BAD! END IS NEAR!' wagon.

I got bored, I have been repeating the same arguments to the same delusion and twisted facts over and over again. I dont know I there is something I can add to the discussion.

Except one thing:

Is Playstation apparently forcing 30 days license verification on new purchases?

No, it never was.
Even if it breaks many people fantasies.
