PlayStation apparently forcing 30 day license verification on new purchases

Sucks, but I don't need that idiot Dreamcastguy to tell me this is bad news. I don't even bother jail breaking any of consoles. I just want to play games, and that's it. Most people do. Leave us the fuck alone, Sony!

Aparently, after locking down the game, a lock icon appear next to picture of the game. This is looking increasingly intentional.

All points to this being PlayStation's new license policy. On digital games bought from march on you'll have to connect each thirty days at most to renew the license. If you do not do so, you won't be able to play them. The game won't be taken from your account, but you won't be able to play it. This is for PS5 and PS4.

Supposedly Xbox is implementing a similar license verification system.

Apparently this license verification system is in effect from March 24, which update's patch notes refer stability and security fixes. Digital games from then on need to be verified each 30 days or you'll lose access, not ownership, to them.

That's it! If there is any more news about this, if someone hasn't posted them before, I'll do it. Take care.

This is such a load of crap, I can't access my account. I keep getting a message that there is a time delay to the server. Is anyone else having similar problems right now? PlayStation, you're driving me crazy!

PlayStation employees might be running around like headless chicken. Stuff might be pretty wild there at the moment. Try to connect later.

As I said above, Nier Replicant had the countdown but it disappeared when I called support and was like "What the fuck is this?"

Now Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle has the countdown. I'm not going to call support, I'm just going to wait until the counter hits 0 and sees what happens.

If it locks me out, I'm calling support and going full blown nuclear Karen mode.
Kudos to you for defending your rights like that, but the fact that this is even needed, every step of the way, is such utter BS, it breaks the scale.

Jeg er så lei av dette...

But the timer disappearing doesn't mean the timer was taken away from the game. It's better to wait and see.

Yeah, that's what I was getting it... It all seems to be such an uphill battle.

Apparently PlayStation is using the license check system of PS Plus games for regular digital game purchases after March 26th. It looks very intentional.

Shit like this makes me glad I only got a PS4 as a hand-me-down and barely bought games on PayStation compared to the games I bought for PC and my Switch.

Also relevant:
I love how the Dreamcast didn't even care if the VMU battery died — it just complained for a few seconds and then stopped.

*Sighs* There really is something to be said about waking up thinking that it's 1999 and then playing Sonic Adventure — my kind of senility.

More and more I am making peace with the idea that the PS4 and Switch are the last consoles I will ever buy from these companies. It is crystal clear the end goal is for us to own absolutely nothing and beg them for more. If they could charge you for how long you can play for a session at a time they absolutely would.

I'll stick to PC with awesome fangames and emulation. So maybe I won't be able to play the new Zelda or God Of War. Fuck it.

I feel you, man. I feel the same.

Microsoft/Windows, Nintendo, and now Sony... well at least Linux and Switch emulation are getting better all the time.
Very few games (that I'd want to play) that I cant play via Steam or Eden.

This is a really weird quote and I always had a hard time believing it was truly said...

Yet I'm noticing how companies are selling less goods and would rather give you services (like subscriptions) instead so you would regularly inject them money instead of just once. Mobile games were just the first step for that (MMOs kinda don't count as they are dependant on a big infrastructure and are usually permanent worlds).

While I could somewhat understand that consumerism and buying things that we don't actually use could be harmful as it would lead to hoarding (seeing retro games in glass prisons from people that will never put them out of there kind of make me sad but I understand not wanting to deteriorate them) and in the best of the worlds everyone would get what they need rather than just getting it for the sake of having it over thinking of using it (I too have things I regret not using that much) but it should come from people not being forced upon by an organisation nor a company.

But I digress about the subject.

Rather than living in incredulity, just look up: "WEF 8 predictions for 2030." It was a WEF promo video that came out in 2016, and the quote in question is prediction #1..

Back to the subject at hand...
Anti-consumerist BS like this is what reenforces the attitude behind the phrase: "If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing"..

If they could charge you for how long you can play for a session at a time they absolutely would.
Internet cafes had software which monitored exactly that and remotely disabled your computer after your 'purchased time' had expired.

I suspect the only reason they haven't done that... yet, is because they aren't confident enough that it would fly.

As an unfortunate owner of the disc based version of PS5 with buyers remorse out the wazoo, these current state of affairs is further solidifying why I care not for the Playstation brand or it's future endeavours, extending into PS6.
The PS5 showed little to nothing this generation and will go down as one of the worst in history.
It's a bit of a shitty pie if you ask me, with this additional news being the diarrhea icing ontop.

There seems to be a sort of development on the issue. Apparently someone seems to have tested it and says that the 30-day time license is connected to the refund scam and after 14 days the game's license becomes permanent, so you don't have to check-in online anymore after that. PlayStation hasn't chip in yet with any information, one way or the other.

Either way PlayStation communication with their clients has been truly horrible.
