PlayStation apparently forcing 30 day license verification on new purchases

Remember the CMOS battery that turned PS4 into ticking time bombs?

The new and improved console war between Xbox, lamestation and Nintendon´t do jack shit. They are competing who can eat the biggest bag of donkey slongs and who is the fastest to go bankrupt.

I call it the "No Games vs No Specs vs No Name race".

It has already been told it was a bug on the UI that they consider it urgent to fix.

From what I have heard that UI element is actually to display the PS+ owned licenses, these expire the moment you dont have PS+, hence there is a expiration date.

We have thankfully got ride of the California leadership of PlayStation that wanted nothing more than live service slop and got back to the way better (but not perfect ofc) Japanese ones.

This is shit from a butt.
We can't have anything nice anymore.

It hasn't been told by Sony. And that is what really matters! We shouldn't normalize being content by rumours and supposed insiders that have no tangible connection to PlayStation giving their say.

This will only empower companies like PlayStation to not clarify anything and keep pushing.

As I said above, Nier Replicant had the countdown but it disappeared when I called support and was like "What the fuck is this?"

Now Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle has the countdown. I'm not going to call support, I'm just going to wait until the counter hits 0 and sees what happens.

If it locks me out, I'm calling support and going full blown nuclear Karen mode.

You yourself are normalizing rumors by spreading this. The title even tell this "(...) apparently (...)". Nobody has lost any game or being locked out of what they payed.

You tell me Im empowering companies yet you are just spreading already some what debunked rumors to cause panic and just say "companies le bad", and disregard any other answer that is not "BURN SONY!" as rumors.

And Im going to be blunt, and it nothing against you personally, but to anyone that seriously thought about this for more than 3 seconds would realize this is a bug/mistake. Why? Because there are no legal base to change a life long license to a rent in a blink of an eye. Even if they put it on a Terms of Service, no court in the world would allow this. And even less for video games, just look at how courts are sending back the patents Nintendo tried to do so they can shoved up their asses. Companies, specially video games ones, are not that mighty.

So this whole discussion is just a nothing burger that people just try to expand to a dystopia (while many other people celebrate Steam license, like I say this is nothing against you) while screaming "Sony bad!" without a thought.

What is more plausible than Sony's own version of 1984?

- A bug as insiders have said
- They are preparing a rent service over PSN, which can also explain why there is a bug showing the "expire" date.

A rumour about a very bad thing is not the same as a company dismissing it without providing any assurance or clarity to its consumers. Consumers are left to wonder if it's true or not and having to scramble.

I don't take some rando's word as debunking it.

Why? Because there are no legal base to change a life long license to a rent in a blink of an eye.
There is. I bothered reading the latest update to their EULA and it states that PlayStation can make changes to their services for security reasons.

Even if they put it on a Terms of Service, no court in the world would allow this.
That remains to be seen, in court.

just look at how courts are sending back the patents Nintendo tried to do so they can shoved up their asses.
Nintendo also tried to sue the US gov for the tariffs before seeing its priorly approved patents dismissed.

They are preparing a rent service over PSN, which can also explain why there is a bug showing the "expire" date.
You're strawmaning the issue. The issue is not that. It is the fact that PlayStation may require users to log in each month to validate the license for the games they purchased, which would force people to comply with all the crap PlayStation rolls out going forward in order to log in. You would know this if you bothered reading the opening post.

You're very sure of yourself without anything solid to back it up.

Typical Sony L, that’s why everyone these days either use pc or jailbreak their consoles. Man, a jailbroken ps5 will be so fun to own.

damn bro, your post is so nonsensical I dont know where even to start

So rumors, if bad, = true?

Ridiculous to say the least

If they havent said a word could be many things: not put more fuel into the nothing burger or a more than probable rent system that can be really far away from reality. One thing is to have the system ready, and a totally different is that companies let you rent the software.

I don't take some rando word as debunking it.
But you DO TAKE the word of some rando because it goes in line with the narrative you create in your mind?

Here is a new rumor:

There is a rumor that RGT will be start to selling premium account to host the servers. Free users will have limited download rate at the repo and only 2 post at the forums at day.

Oh! And they will demand prove of identity per EU regulations, so please take a screenshot of you ID in advance.

100% real no fake.

here is. I bothered reading the latest update to their EULA and it states that PlayStation can make changes to their services for security reasons.

You said it yourself: services, not licenses.

They cant just go and tell you "Nah, we will take your license away if you dont buy anything from us". And even if they did, they would get their ass checks clapped in not time in court.

That remains to be seen.
There is no need, just Sony alone had to compensate all PS Vita users because they just promised a feature that never happen.

This is a total different best, more similar to the ruling on the US where stores like Steam had to tell that they are acquiring a license, not a game.

Nintendo also tried to sue the US gov for the tariffs before seeing its priorly approved patents dismissed.

And? Nintendo will sue even themselves. The question is: did it pass? No. This is why the while "They will take your already bought games and locked them out without consequences" is just ridiculous.

You're strawmaning the issue. The issue is not that it is the fact that PlayStation may require users to log in each month to validate the license they have in the games they purchased, which would force people to comply with all the crap PlayStation rolls out going forward in order to log in. Come on... do you even know what Strawman is?

Would like taking just a simple message on a somewhat obscure part of your system, and then creating a whole narrative of how they want to take our games and force us to live in 1984... wait, this is oddly familiar...

The truth is:

- The screen is in a somewhat obscure part of the PS system, not a splash screen or a timer on the game main screen (Like the ones they have when you pre-order a game).
- Nobody, and I will repeat this, NOBODY has lost a single game license owned.
- Insiders, with a grain of salt ofc, have said that this is just a bug that is "yet to fix".

So considering that:

Why is more believable that Sony is preparing the fourth reich, making us all slaves (because we agree on the ToS), even if it goes against the consumer protection laws and that Sony is well aware that the Switch 2 sold well and PC gaming is on a ll time high.

BUT considering that maybe... just maybe, they are preparing a new rent service (my take on the issue, ofc) is suddenly stupid an a strawman (Tho, strawman is something else: it is building an opponent that doesnt exists and beat him with arguments. But that another topic).

So rumors, if bad, = true?

Ridiculous to say the least
No, unsettling rumour is unsettling. And Sony is running a business and clients want, obviously, clarity.

If they havent said a word could be many things: not put more fuel into the nothing burger
You know what doesn't put more fuel into the fire? Truth said in a crystal clear fashion.

I'm not going to bother reading and replying to the rest of your tirade. You know about as much as me, or even less. You just make a lot of assumptions.

Stuff like this makes me glad that I'm not invested in the current generation..

My jailbroken phat PS3 & PSP still work great, and I have a huge backlog of games that I'll in all likelihood never finish... and that's not even including the influx of new translations of previously JP-only games coming out on the semi-regular..

Fuck these greedy companies and their "A/B testing" BS..

Im sure you felt like this when typing this high IQ words:

The issue has been verified making people unable to play after the timer expires in games that display it.

On the video earlier, it is announced that PlayStation will raise the prices again in southern Asia.

PlayStation this year has been such a dumpster fire... Such a drop in reliability and consumer trust! It's kinda shocking.

Spawnwave verified this license issue on digital games in video:

But physical games seem to not have the same restriction.

I remember Steam requiring to be logged in within a week or else the games are no longer playable but I think they've fixed that long ago.

The license expiration might be intentional.
