PlayStation 2 games worth revisiting

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the Timesplitters series is always in need of more love. Still my favorite console fps more than 20 years later. Smooth gameplay, fun characters, loads of them too, a great map maker feature, many different modes and maps. The freedom to select your own weapon- and bot sets for each level makes for hilarious pairings.
Wacky first person shooters are a dime a dozen these days, but in the ps2 era there was nothing quite like Timesplitters and I'd go so far to extend that claim: there's nothing quite like it now. It definitely feels much less corporate than the genre does at present.

I personally loved all PS2 Tony Hawk games up until and including American Wasteland. THPS 3 having the greatest replayability and Underground 2 boasting the biggest amount of content respectively.

Be sure to check out Zone of the Enders 1 and 2. An interesting look into the parallel universe where Hideo Kojima ended the Metal Gear Solid series with 2 and went into a different direction afterwards. Part 2's cel-shaded visuals benefit greatly from the PS3 hd version, but it's an incredible looking game on the PS2 as well. Story heavy mech action basically.

I'm a sucker for the PS2 platformer/genre crossover games so I'll just recommend these series: Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Rayman and these singular games: Kya, Scaler, Haven, Vexx and Legend of Kay. These should keep you busy and entertained. I think the first Jak & Daxter, Sly 2 and Kya aged the best out of the bunch. Psychonauts is a masterpiece too, but the PS2 version is the worst one available.

Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monk. I come back to it every now and again.

Used to play Simpsons Hit and Run every couple years, but I play it on Gamecube and Xbox now.

I think Twisted Metal Head-On is also worthy of revisiting, its the most straightforward game you can enjoy, its staggering how much the game is adding in terms of extra content on top of the original game that was made for PSP, old footage, an unfinished Black-like sequel and some one-off concept beat em' up with sweet tooth.

Rare to see a game include unfinished builds on top of giving you a fully fledged game.

I've been playing a lot of Shinobido lately and I think it's a really good game. It doesn't have the well crafted levels of Tenchu (made by the same devs as the PS1 Tenchu titles) but makes up for it by having a very dynamic campaign. You can choose for which lord you want to fight and even be neutral and take missions from everyone like a true assassin for hire. On missions where you have to steal information or new weapons for a lord you can even betray them and sell the stolen goods yourself or give them to a lord you'd rather ally with. Overall I really recommend this game to every fan of stealth as well as the Tenchu games which are also excellent.
I love Tenchu, especially The Wrath of Heaven. But IMHO, Shinobido are way better than any Tenchu games. I really love that you can choose your own story and which lord you sided with, it would be a perfect ninja stealth game if the control are easier and less repeating level design. I just hope some company remake this game someday.

all of the tokyo xtreme racer games are pretty solid pick up and play titles if you just wanna kill an hour
wouldn't recommend playing any of them for longer than 1-2 hours at a time but they've got a pretty fun gameplay loop and the quirkiest roster of vehicles I've ever seen

The Sly Cooper trilogy
Persona 4 (Persona 3 is great and all but it's flaws are really apparent now that Persona 3 Reload is out, just play that.)
The Jak & Daxter trilogy
Okami
Devil May Cry 1 & 3 (I'm sorry, but, Devil May Cry 2 sucked)
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2
Ico
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
The Onimusha trilogy
SoulCalibur II & III
Katamari Damacy
We Love Katamari
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3

I'm about to order a Brook Wingman PS2, mainly so I can play several PS2 games that the PS2 Classics emulator for PS3 isn't compatible with. Another reason is that one of the games I never got to 100% is Beatdown: Fist of Vengeance, and it just doesn't feel right doing it on PCSX2 when I have a perfectly working PS2 hooked up. Sadly, most of my PlayStation controllers have started failing in some way or simply show too many signs of wear.

King's Field IV for that sweet sweet dungeon crawling . Megaman X8 is worth checking out and there's this motocross game called freektstyle that i liked quite a lot but the races start to drag out towards the end and you have to repeat each 3 times to advance to the next level but even so, is worth checking out.

Kings Field IV is awesome, but is super hard to get into. If OP is a fan of Souls game and has some patience it definitely pays off and the game feels so immersive to just roam in. It's a cool game.

Shadow of Memories!!!! It is the funniest PS2 hidden gem.

Gonna check this one out, looks intriguing.

Garo.
It's a simple fun, think 3d fighter with DMC mechanic, but that's not the best part.
The best thing about this game is that once you finish the story mode (pretty short, 50 minutes or so) you will unlock the final boss as playable character, and you can customize his movesets, even better, he is gonna use that moveset when you fight him next time. If you want you can make the cheapest boss fight ever or make him extremely weak if you want to.

If you want a short experience, pick the first Zone of the Enders since it's really short, I beat it in under three hours. ZOE 2 might be better and if you liked 1 then 2 is a no brainer, but I still appreciate the first game for what it is.
Also, Beyond the Bounds is great and probably the most well-known ZOE song, but damn, I love Flowing Destiny.
