PS2 PlayStation 2 games worth revisiting

Simpsons Hit and Run
Katamari Damacy & We Love Katamari
Dynasty Warriors 3 &4
Final Fantasy 10 & 12
GTA 3 series
Marvel Vs Capcom 2
Kill Switch
Onimusha
I complete forgot about the Katamari games! I used to play the everloving heck out of one of the demos but never played the full game lol

Is Final Fantasy X and X2 worth playing on the PS2? I have HD on PS3 if that is indeed a better version.

Shinobi by Sega. The wall running was pretty cool and you could attack enemies in a group and then destroy them all at the same time while striking a cool pose. Your sword also builds up energy with souls like it's a Soul Reaver.
Was going to mention this. It's a pretty brutal game by today's standard of difficulty since the platforming is a nightmare and some of the bosses are really challenging.

Gitaroo Man
Gitaroo Man is a hidden gem and everyone needs to experience it at least once.

Dynasty Warriors 3 &4
Old Koei games had so much soul especially with the hilarious dubbings. Samurai Warriors was really fun too.
I think they're making a new one now, but who knows if it will be any good.

black was a really cool fps, the destruction was awesome for the time and it still holds up imo

also the phantasy star universe series is awesome, but the best one of those is on psp

all of them are fun grind/loot fest games tho if you like that sorta thing :3

I loved the ridiculous guitars in the Dynasty Warriors games. 3 and 4 are my personal favorites although I have played more of the later ones. The later ones lost the zaniness that the older ones had and made things needlessly complicated.

The old Armored Core games are some of my favorite PS2 games.
Monster Hunter Dos is also really good, it even has a complete translation patch and a community server. So if you have a network adapter you can still play online.

Dynasty Warriors 3 &4
What's the appeal about Dynasty Warriors games? In my experience it's just walk up to an enemy and press a couple buttons until everyone is dead. Or did I make a mistake on my first Dynasty Warriors game being one of the newer ones? Maybe I should've put the difficulty higher? I don't remember if that even was an option.

OH MAN! I love the Armored Core games. I've been busy playing Beat Down Fist of Vengeance on PS2 as my break from fighting games. It would be great to revisit Armored Core 2 as it less overwhelming than the later games to see if I can still pull off the ACs I used to build back then. I was planning to play Urban Reign after Beat Down though, so now I'm torn between that and Armored Core.

Haven't seen it listed here yet, but if you enjoy on-rails shooters like Star Fox then I highly recommend this game. You could also get the remaster Rez Infinite on Steam and connect headphones for it :)

Half-Life for the PlayStation 2.

Yup, similar to the Orange Box for the Xbox 360, the original had a lesser-known port to console that came bundled with its own exclusive game mode. I bought this off of eBay around four years ago for £6 as my first experience of the game and was very impressed by it. I'll link a few videos down below for those who are curious:

I could go on for ages, but most titles on the PS2 are worth playing. It's a console with a vast and diverse library. The nineties to noughties (maybe stretch to mid-2010s) were the ideal time to be a fan of video games. Sixth generation in particular, you were spoilt for choice: PlayStation 2, Original Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, SEGA Dreamcast and PC, and also the GBA, DS and PSP. It was a golden age when video games were just mainstream enough to have broad appeal but not an oversaturated market dominated by AAA companies prioritizing streaming and publicity. Not saying that all modern video games are garbage but (particularly in the West) we're seeing a Hollywoodification of the industry detached from the nerdy roots it sprouted from.

Tokobot Plus is worth revisiting, if you ever played the PSP release this is

essentially the same game with additional content. It's a puzzle-oriented 3D platformer where you command a bunch of tiny robots to get you through different hazards and obstacles, kind of like Pikmin but not really. Definitely worth a try. It was quite the late PS2 release as well.

I have been trying to find this for years but haven't had any luck. It's such a good game. Anything chibi has me hooked.

Psychonauts details the adventures of Razputin ("Raz" for short), a 10-year old who is gifted with psychic abilities. Raz runs away from his family's circus because his father does not appreciate his psychic gift, making him practice acrobatics day after day, so he runs away & sneaks into a highly classified remote government training facility camp for those with similar powers, so he can train to become a Psychonaut and prove his worth. Soon, however, he finds that there is a sinister plot unfolding at the camp, which only he can stop. 🥓

There is a reason this game is considered a "cult classic" one of the funniest games I've ever played
its a fairly basic 3d platformer but the story, characters and humor is what make it so Special ::blush
I remember seeing this game first on G4TV. They were hyping it up like crazy. I got it for PC still in the box. :D

I'm seeing a lot of people talking about Shadow of Memories so... just came here to say that Eike is the dumbest, most lovable main character ever. But there's actually a valid plot reason for why he's so dumb and forgetful. But I won't spoil it~ Also, the creator of Shadow of Memories made another time travel themed game on the DS, and it's super good. It's called Time Hollow. You guys should try it!

I've been playing a lot of Shinobido lately and I think it's a really good game. It doesn't have the well crafted levels of Tenchu (made by the same devs as the PS1 Tenchu titles) but makes up for it by having a very dynamic campaign. You can choose for which lord you want to fight and even be neutral and take missions from everyone like a true assassin for hire. On missions where you have to steal information or new weapons for a lord you can even betray them and sell the stolen goods yourself or give them to a lord you'd rather ally with. Overall I really recommend this game to every fan of stealth as well as the Tenchu games which are also excellent.

On topic of 3d platformers: Rayman 3. Short, but really fun and stylish platformer. It's also really detailed, the soundtrack is hilariously longer than the game and every section is unique.

Someone said Drakengard, so I'll say: Drakengard 2. It gets a lot of flack because the writing is more generic and indeed its not even half as interesting as 1, but it still succeeds in many aspects like actually taking the gameplay from 1 and making it more interesting, plus bosses with cool pacts and whatnot. I legit think its way better than 3 at least.

Aaaand Rule of Rose. Short horror game with a fairly flawed combat(which sadly, is unavoidable sometimes), but writing and cutscene direction more than make up for it.

Having played all the home console Rayman games (yes, even Rabbids 1+2), I feel like 3 doesn't get enough respect. It's also the only one available on the original Xbox. I was not a fan of Rayman Origins or Legends, but it made playing the Wii U as a kid more bearable when Nintendo was going through their boring "New Soup" phase of rehashing Mario Wii. The jump to eighth-generation consoles felt underwhelming, as I missed that 3D element of platformers. We've seen a recent resurgence in these sorts of platformers so maybe we'll see Rayman again. (hopefully in a 4th sequel and not another Rabbids promo or a sidescroller)

Completely agree, Origins and Legends are very polished games and I had a great time playing then coop with my sister, but they are very straightforward jump and run type platformers without much depth. I heard rumors(?) that either a new game or a remake of a 3d Rayman is in the works, but with how ubisoft is nowadays I really wouldn't get my hopes up.

I played Legends first on the PS4 then Origins around three years ago on the Wii. The sequel is a huge step up in terms of level design, soundtrack and gameplay elements. Gamemakers Toolkit did an excellent video explaining how they made water levels fun (achieving the impossible). But it felt so linear and restricted, there was no big environment to explore. Rayman 2 / Revolution / 3D etc. (whichever version you played or prefer) was a lot better in that the world popped out at you. Rayman 3 was short but sweet.

What I will give the 2D sidescrollers is that they returned to their roots with a struggling IP while trying something new and it was successful. Still has that quick pace of the 3D games. There just wasn't much else to it. If the rumours are true, I'll be buying on the first release. I am a boomer in spirit so having a game I can just sink a few hours into a week and be done with by the end of it is ideal on a busy schedule.

To me the Origins/Legends games are just more 2D endless runners in an endless sea of 2D endless runners. It's like the DKC Returns games.

Honestly, I'd have to go with "Neopets: The Darkest Faerie".

It was some sort of weird Zelda-clone. Clearly aimed at kids, and had some kind of weird charm to it that's hard to pinpoint. Story wasn't the most original thing in the world, but I remember being quite impressed at how well-executed certain character designs were. The combat was quite entertaining as well.

My PS2 top list would be something like this:

Shadow Hearts
(My fave rpg from asia. Need to play the sequel.)

The rest are in no order:

Jak 2 and 3,
Metal Gear Solid 3(need to play 2.),
Silent Hill 2,
Zone Of The Enders(Hate that this fell into obscurity.),

Dothack Part 1 Infection,
Xenosaga Episode 1,
Dynasty Warriors 3,
Bully,
Dark Cloud,

Devil May Cry 1,
7 Blades, (play as the gunbunny, and it's the most fun game on the system)
Twisted Metal: Black,
Growlanser 2,
Dragon Quest 8

My PS2 top list would be something like this:

Zone Of The Enders
(Hate that this fell into obscurity.),
Dragon Quest 8
Forgot to mention these two. Zone of the Enders was an amazing game. I never played the sequel, but played through the original multiple times, plus it came with the MGS2 demo.
