Pixy Garden (Disc 1 - Game Disc) (PlayStation) translation has been released

Thanks for sharing the pre-patched version. I tried both your version and my own patched copy on Duckstation and yeah, it's broken. Tutorial hangs the game and text doesn't display properly on the initial menus. Tried your copy on RetroArch with PCSX Rearmed and that worked better. Doesn't hang but like you said, text goes out of boxes and at least two letters can get cut off at the end of a sentence.
I'm guessing the patch was tested on real hardware and doesn't play nicely with emulators but I'm hardly an expert on this stuff. I might still play some more and see how it goes. As long as it doesn't crash in any other areas and I can still understand the text, I'm good, personally. But I can see other people being bothered by the current state it's in. Hopefully there's some updates and fixes in the future.
It may not be updated if the maker of the patch doesnt know it's bonked. If somebody can leave a review on romhacking, that might help.

What? No Way!
I saw a video a few weeks ago and got really interested in playing it! The video goes into detail about the experience the game offers, and it’s the kind of game the industry just doesn’t allow to exist anymore, I was really looking forward to someone translating it.

I contacted the maker and he's aware of the issue, other folks had already contacted him as well. He says he's gonna see if he can fix the issue and recommended a few things, including trying other versions of the game to avoid hash mismatches but unfortunately I couldn't get any of the versions I found to work differently from the pre-patched version mentioned earlier in the thread. Might be a case of just having to wait it out or trying to make do with the current version, for now. Or just playing on hardware, since that seems to work fine.

One thing that someone can try is launching the game with POPSstarter on pcsx2, POPSstarter is a PS1 emulator for the PS2 made by Sony, on the PS2 the patched game works perfectly fine with it so if you can get POPSloader to work with pcsx2 I guess the game might work there ? tho it's a pretty dumb way to play PS1 game like this and pcsx2 wasn't made with that in mind.

So, having talked with the patch maker a bit further, he suggested I use No$PSX and use that program's write snapshot function to send some info his way and see what was wrong. And what do you know, there's nothing wrong on No#PSX! The game didn't hang and it displayed all the text correctly when running on this particular emulator. It looks like a very complex tool, way over my head but the website for No%PSX mentioned a "gaming version" of the program, which I imagine might be easier to use. So if you're in a rush or having issues with other emulators, this might be worth checking out

Thank you, I can confirm it works on NO$PSX gaming version. Pretty weird that the patched game seemingly only works on POPstarter and NO$PSX which are known to not be great and not recommanded while the cutting edge ones have deep issues with it

Yeah, the maker told me he thinks there might be some quirks to the other emulators that are interfering with the way his patch works. I have no idea why NO$PSX isn't affected but hey, if it works, it works, right?

That it's not working on the MiSTer is a bigger issue.

Unfortunately I don't know much or anything, really about MiSTer. For what it's worth the patch maker was able to recreate the issues on Duckstation. Says that even though NO$PSX works, it might not be ideal since it's more for testing and can have framerate drops. He's thinking either making multiple patches or tweaking the patch to make it more compatible with more emulators. I could try asking him about the MiSTer situation, if you'd like. But it might be easier to try and talk directly with him to troubleshoot things and see what's up. Oh and he also recommends ePSXe 2.0.18 as the ideal version to play on currently. Haven't tested that myself though, I haven't updated or used ePSXe in a long time

I just tried the patched game on my PS3 using the official PS1 emulator from Sony and somehow it has the exact same bug as with duckstation and others. Does the dev of the patch tried it on the original hardware and did it worked ? if that the case then it sounds like there's a deep issue with PS1 emulation in general

Works fine with ePSXe version 2.0.18, also version 2.0.18 is the most up to date version

I severely have doubts. It was probably made around working with Raspberry Pi emulation environments, which generally use PCSX-Rearmed.

Is the patch maker willing to make a duckstation / Mister compatible patch? It's great that individual is quick to respond and willing to figure it out!!

There's a version 1.1 fix on Romhacking.net already. Will try it out myself in a bit and then report back
Yep, version 1.1 seems to be working perfectly on Duckstation now. Make sure to repatch the game with this update, if you're planning on playing with Duckstation!

It's a little strange how that guy writes documentation. I'm reading the updated readme.txt, and what do I see?

1. Copy your original files into this folder. DO NOT RENAME!!

Why the “DO NOT RENAME!!”? And this is despite the fact that the .bat file strictly specifies the “correct” (in his opinion) filenames that the script is supposed to respond to.

(just in case, the Pixiegarden game has TWO cd's. One is main game and the other is some extra (untranslated) stuff)

Well, it didn’t work for me :)

But after I renamed the files to match the line in the .bat file (and also edited the .cue file), everything seemed to patch correctly, launch, and start working (in duckstation, yup).

The renaming situation is likely due to most copies of the game on the internet being named "Pixy Garden (Disc 1) (Game Disc)" after extracting. But the version he used and made the patch for was one that once extracted came out as "Pixy Garden (Game Disc)", omitting the Disc 1.
I've tried patching 1.1 after renaming and the patcher does announce an error but the patched file seemed to still work. Not sure if any issues can arise later in the game, though. Either way, a copy that extracts without the "Disc 1" in the file name should be the best version to use and prevent the patcher from giving out any errors

Good to know that the dev managed to fix the issue quickly, I've tested the update and everything seems to have been fixed, I've updated the link in the download thread. Concerning the error encountered during the patching process, as you can see it only concern the .cue file that is because the patcher expect the .cue file to contain

FILE "Pixygarden (Japan) (Game Disc).bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

but most archives of the game have a .cue file containing this instead

FILE "Pixygarden (Japan) (Disc 1) (Game Disc).bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

Thus creating the aforementioned error. As long as the game boots normaly on your end you shouldn't see any bug or error related to the patching process

Just in sase, but do you edited the .cue-file content with the new (renamed for the string in .bat-file) filename?

My filenames was:
Pixygarden (Japan) (Disc 1) (Game Disc).bin
Pixygarden (Japan) (Disc 1) (Game Disc).cue

and the text in .cue file was

FILE "Pixygarden (Japan) (Disc 1) (Game Disc).bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

But the .bat file for patcheng requires

Pixygarden (Japan) (Game Disc).bin
Pixygarden (Japan) (Game Disc).cue

filenames

so the text in Pixygarden (Japan) (Game Disc).cue must be:

FILE "Pixygarden (Japan) (Game Disc).bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

Yes I edited the name of the .bin and .cue files to match what the patcher asked for and I edited the .cue file to contain this string of text instead just like you've described.

So did it patch without errors when you renamed inside the bin and cue file in notepad before patching and thanku @Macaulay Kong and @Dimcas for your work! And dothacktranslate for ur patch to this family friendly planet developing with fairies game!

Hi 👋 this game seems interesting, will this be posted in the repo? Because to be honest I am unable to made the patch on PC 😅😅

Usually I will just use the tools to patch in rom hacking site, but it won't work this time... and unipatcher also doesn't work haha... I wonder what's gone wrong...

I don't know when it'll be added to the repo but you can grab a pre-patched version by Dimcas on the downloads section of the forum. This should be the right thread for it
