No, but that's only because prequel might be a poor choice of words...

EVO: Search for Eden (the one on SNES) was the second game in the 46 Okunen Monogatari series, with "The Shinka Ron" (Theory of Evolution) being the first (1990) and the sequel (1992) being "The Search for Eden" (Eden Harukanaru Hen). Both games actually have very little to with each other story wise and are just following a similar premise of being based around the theme prehistorical evolution (with ToE being a top-down RPG with turn based combat, and SfE being a sidescrolling platformer with action RPG elements).

The quote in question I thought was fairly telling, since the first EVO is so cracked out it has you evolve into some sort alien dinoman while you fist fight the Devil (who is a sexy lady, because this is a PC-Engine game). It's weird, but offers for more variety than it's slightly more sane sequel.
