Phantasy Star Thread

The reason PSU never went to the PS3 is actually pretty simple, the system was supposedly hard as hell to develop for due to it's processor, this is also why most ps3 ports of Sega games tended to be worse than their Xbox 360 versions, most notoriously Sonic '06 and Sonic Unleashed.
Oh right, the infamous CELL chip that made it harder... I know that PS3 exclusives like MGS4 were more powerful looking than X360 games because they're using the hardware (so that's why it would've been hard to see a proper port).

Sonic 2006 on the PS3 was released in 2007 yet they haven't fixed the glitches... And Unleashed changed the day to night transition video to a simple looking icon.

I also guess that Sega also wanted to sell on the console that sold the most rather than the more powerful (so the PS2 and 360).

Basically at the time the game was already pretty popular on PS2 and anyone who wanted a better version in Japan just got it for pc and since the fanbase in the west for PSU was much smaller than Japan, Sega decided a PS3 version wasn't worth it, considering how tough PS3 ports were, especially in the early days of the PS3.
And how the JRPG genre was in a weird phase and had a lot of competitors.

I know that Phantasy Star 1 and 2 got remakes on the PS2 for the same reason that it was selling easily there.

I've played the psp titles in single player: Phantasy Star Portable 2 and then 1. I've also played the "2 Infinity" with the English patch but my favourite is still number 2!
Very cool action rpgs, I kept on using the big sword or the twin knives.
Infinity made some balance changes but I love the QoL improvements and story mode added.

For those looking to get into game no. 1 nowadays, on The Repo there is an absolute TREASURE TROVE of language patches that are also filled with quality of life upgrades. I highly recommend playing the game this way. It's super cool that we get this as Phantasy Star fans!

Before I get any of those are those retranslations based on the original Japanese script?

I'd be tempted to play the French version (what's the difference between the normal and Extended)?

Also what's Phantasy Star CSI?

These ARE based on the Japanese script. It’s a more accurate translation.

CSI stands for “Character Sprite Improvement”. It changes overworld sprites to be even more accurate to the character’s designs. I never noticed while playing (aside from Alisa having black hair for some reason), but the overworld sprites aren’t fully accurate to the main character designs. This hack fixes them up to be as close as possible while still being chibi overworld sprites.
Post automatically merged:

French Extended seems to include extra stuff, like hints and lore drops, that weren’t in the original game, but are taken from canon. I’d assume some things were included from the Phantasy Star 1 novel as well. PS had a LOT of extended universe stuff back in the day.

The game itself, even by SEGA officially, was one of the most travelled RPGs for well over a decade. All the languages shown here are re-translations, as the original game actually did get full translations into all of these languages. It’s one of the first games to ever be released in Brazilian Portuguese, which is really cool.

Good thanks. Seeing Cola and Burger in the store really takes me out of the sci-fi fantasy RPG.

Oh right, it's also in the SMS Power retranslation hack. For some reasons I'm fine with black haired Alis.

It could've been worse because she's blonde in Segagaga.

I've started both and in one they say Lassic in the other they kept Lashiec from the Japanese script.

The novel? I remember a "choose your own adventure book" with illustrations.

This is nice as well.

I’m thankful you can try them yourself! I’ve been trying to answer your questions, but I can only do so much since I am literally in college classes as we speak.

I love that remix of Jungle ~A Lush Load~

Some of the tracks in the original Sonic Adventure had some PSO-esque sound (mainly the synth used)
