Looks like Akira summoned me to yet another thread by mentioning 3rd Strike. Yun's Genei-Jin shoulder tackles look so cool, though! Busted, but cool! Let's not talk about Chun, though... or really, let's not talk about balance in general. Capcom was allergic to balance.

Joking aside, my usual response is the Persona series as a whole, including the PS1 titles, just because it doesn't appeal to me. Honestly, though, I lack any significantly strong opinions in terms of what games I think are overrated or not. The only thing I care about is whether I personally enjoy it, and naturally some things just won't be appealing to me, but will appeal to others. It's a cop-out answer in some ways, I know, but it is my general thoughts on the matter.

Funny thing is I don't even hate 3S, I just can't call it the perfect fighting game and put it on a pedestal as most people do, and MVC2, well... gotta see it as what it is, you know? xD I like it, but it's got huge MUGEN vibes. Also two Wolverines, lol.

The whole Mother trilogy. Not just Earthbound. Not just Mother 3 (but doubly so for this one, its fandom sucks a horse's dick). All three games, as if people needed to talk smack about Mother 1 / Earthbound Beginnings further.

I'm still waiting for Mother Encore, and praying Cucktendo doesn't C&D it to death.

Skill issues? Castlevania was best in general before Symphony of the Night. Super IV is actually too easy IMO.


...a widely, and unjustly, hated game? Even if the counter-culture vibe is coming around on it, it doesn't belong in a thread about games that everyone loves. I have friends who still go into spergouts about Soul Memory.


I actually agree with this easily. FFVII has good stuff, but it's not some kind of Godsent Masterpiece that its cult treats it as. It just happened to capture lightning in a bottle when it came to timing: 3D graphics were exploding (a lot of people forget just how poorly 2D games were regarded at the dawn of the PlayStation Generation), FMV cutscenes impressed every normie and nerd, overtly anime design aesthetics captured the imagination of the new American mainstream anime fanbase, as well as its angsty mature story and waifu harem.


There's a certain sadistic joy to seeing the looks on someone's face when you whip out Goldeneye and hand them a controller change as they realize it actually controls like ass and the gunplay is flaccid auto-aim frustration in confusing maps where you can run for minutes without seeing anybody else.

I challenge you to find a better console FPS before Golden Eye.

Man, come on, it's not like that, I mean... ehm... damn, I think you're right about the "butting against jammed doors", I don't find the movement clunky at all (Resident Evil with the tank controls is unplayable for me, even SH1 is better), I disagree about the rest but I agree with the part about the jammed doors. The only part that felt like a "big shitty slog" for me was the final dungeon on SH1, those puzzles were stupid.

Silent Hill plays like shit compared to Resident Evil if we're going to compare controls, combat and overall playability. I feel like the Silent Hill games make the "game" part secondary, which results in them not actually being that fun to play years later. Resident Evil, as "tanky" as it is, promotes game design over any kind of artistic value, resulting in a *good* game. If you remove the story from Silent Hill and leave the core game skeleton to be evaluated, you'll quickly realize how trash they are.

Yeah I've heard the horror stories about how broken it was on release. But nowadays after years of patches, mods, a whole DLC campaign and a very good relationship between fans and devs (seriously RWS are really good about things and always have been. Despite never really having any money, huge respect). Postal 2 evolved into quite the cult classic and has a little slice of gaming history to call its own.

So yeah since a lotta people nowadays like it after years of enjoying the fixed up version. Naturally my hater senses were tingling XD ...Still like it though. Just don't think it deserves the love it has. RWS should just make a better game than cling to such an old one. Postal 4 is fucking terrible.

True, but impact isn't. GoldenEye was the first console-exclusive FPS that actually mattered, everything else was a cute experiment or a (generally) inferior port of something. I didn't like it that much, but the 64 had like 5 good games so all my friends were playing GoldenEye constantly.

Something can have an impact and still be overrated, might even be easier for it to be.
