Over-hated Games

I will chime in and say, growing up playing RE1, 2, 3 & CV I was not scared (Alone in the Dark on Playstation did kinda make me uncomfortable a bit though, the atmosphere and the whispering of ghosts saying your name in the bg).

However, playing RE0 the first half of it I was scared as shit but this is only because I knew from my friend that there is a gigantic centipede boss fight and I have a phobia of those things but once I defeated that bitch I breezed through the game no problem, idk if this counts.

Speaking of which, this game gets undeservedly hated imoView attachment 113743

Yeah, that centipede boss was disgusting but killing it was very satisfing.

I have generally avoided the Resident Evil remakes. RE 4 on the Gamecube/PS2 is perfect to me and any attempt to change it can only ruin it in my eyes, and I had my fill of RE 2 back on the PS1 after having to play through it multiple times and memorize it to get a good enough rank for an unlockable.

However, having never played RE 3 on the PS 1, I did give the remake a whirl at one time since I could approach it with an open mind instead of hating it for not being like the original the way so many other people have done. It was pretty enjoyable, except for that god awful section with the spider things trying to impregnate Jill. That was horribly designed

First off I'd like to mention that technically RE4 on GC is NOT the same game as the one on PS2 and on Wii (motion controls aside) many changes were made in later ports compared to the GC original (not even mentioning regional differences) but the biggest difference is Ada's campaign, still to this day the GC version (which is my personal favorite version) remains exclusive to the GC.

That aside, I think you may have done yourself a disservice here by playing the remake first, let me explain...

While I agree on the og RE2 being my preferred version, the Remake is also really good, RE3 however I can kinda understand why many would dislike the remake, I still like it and in some "selfish" way kinda prefer it over the original, but the remake chopped the game so much you only play like 30% of the entire campaign, this is sorta why I enjoy the remake as it makes it a simpler abridged version to lose a couple of hours but you are missing out on the actual meat of the game and more importantly the main selling point of that entry, making choices, the remake gets rid of all of that.

I do agree that RE3 Remake gets overhated but I think I can understand why it felt like a big let down especially compared to RE2 Remake, which despite liking this game so much even I think it was disappointing in some aspects and a bit of a missed opportunity to fix some of the weird decisions of the original.

I know they added some stuff to RE 4 on the PS2 and that the graphics were a slight downgrade, but it was still fundamentally the same game at its core. The Wii version I've never touched as I don't believe RE 4 was designed with motion controls in mind so I don't want to play it that way.

I actually LIKE that RE 3 remake was short. It's one of the reasons I enjoyed it, because it didn't take up a lot of my time to play through it. In fact, doing a ranked run probably would be less annoying than other RE games because of its length. I generally don't like the concept of ranked runs in RE games due to their annoying requirements, I've only ever done it in the original RE 2. I also hear that Nemesis appeared randomly in the original game, which just sounds annoying to me. You can predict him in the remake, I like that. I'm not a fan of randomness in games. I do intend to try the original RE 3 some day though, but it's not high on my priority list.

TBH RE1 and RE0 did things right as a survival horror game by fueling the paranoia on every corner the first time (wild beast chasing fast, alone in the big antique mansion, very low ammo and saves, time-consuming puzzles, lotta jumpscare scenes, etc). Too bad the sequels couldn't really follow them up and become more actiony as House of the Dead as they tone down the horror atmosphere for more survival features at least until RE7.
I'd even argue The Evil Within (Psychobreak), at least the first game, did the scary atmosphere much better than almost the entirety of RE series to the point that even the REmakes stealing some of its notable features (zombies that didn't get headshotted/burned had the chance to come back stronger later). Which is funny as I feel like that series is also undeservedly hated for being hard-on RE but better.

At least back then. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fun.
I really think that most of the hate comes from people playing scholar of the first sin instead of vanilla. if you start with shcolar its such a wild start and (in my personal opinion) a way less polished experienced

I think the biggest problem people had with the game was that they played it at a young age when reading a 3-minute tutorial was boring for those who wanted to jump straight into the action.

Unlike FFVII's Materia system, Junction was not very self-explanatory 4 dummies.

before Spoony's review, i still had a hard time understanding how to apply drawn magic to different stats back then. I can understand it now that i'm older, but back then there were no video tutorials. These days if you can't understand a game, a person on YouTube figured it out and showed you step by step. Back in the late 90s-early 2000s, that wasn't the case. You had to read a guide written by someone who was terrible at explaining it over on GameFaqs. lol Now for Chrono Cross, Vinny over at Vinesauce made a great video during one battle explaining everything in the simplest terms. If we could get more videos like that for RPGs that are unusual, I'm sure they would have more fans and less critics. I still think Chrono Cross is needlessly complicated though.

Biohazard 5 in co op is a banger, and it has fantastic extra modes and dlc

Even better with mods!
YEEEES Resident Evil 5 was not worthy of the hate it got from RE diehards back in 2009 when it became the highest grossing game of the lot. If RE6 is the terrible Netflix "Anime" by Adi Shankar, Resident Evil 5 is the American remake of a Japanese classic: Not as good, but still holding its own in comparison.

Duke Nukem Forever

It has its flaws like long loading screens and some modern decision like carrying 2 guns (That, imho is not even bad). I would even dare to say that is helped to stay FPS away from the CoD/scripted all present formula and put FPS on a classic design but on modern systems, what will be (badly imo) called "boomer shooter" later. The level design where great and some jokes where fun.

But the gaming media decided they where too enlighten to hear dirty jokes from a character that was known for dirty jokes. so they trashed the game and it become the "cool" thing to do.

the game is really good. I highly recommend it.

Wow. You don't get why people hate Duke Nukem Forever (or why Duke worked in the first place) at all. You want to praise Forever, fine. But it's common knowledge amongst Duke fans that the game is nothing like 1, 2, 3D, the time travel trilogy, and Manhattan Project at all.

Agreed, I actually like the fact that they didn't just toss out a Zelda 1 clone, change a few things, and say "here you go." They tried something different. Yes, it's a fucking hard game, but like I said about Deadly Towers, it's hard, not awful.

I actually think I like Zelda II more than the first, personally.
Much like I prefer ALTTP over OoT. Ya ya, boo me because OoT is the best thing since sliced bread, but that's just my opinion.

It doesn't have to be anyone else's. But no, Zelda II is not a horrible game. It's just Dark Souls hard for its time.
I completly agree . Zelda 2 was awesome but hard . I dont get the hate towards it . ::thinking

The game is actually alright . Even still ahead of its time . Graphicly it still looks great .

I only know that Matt McMuscles is just a fighting game scrub and disliked the game out of sheer arrogance . Maybe thats where the hate came from .

LoL, bad bait

Duke Nukem 1 and 2 are are side scrollers similar to Manhattan project, and part of Duke charm was still not there. That would come with DN3D as a first person shooter, the time trilogy and Manhattan project just keep building on this new definition of Duke: one on its roots as a side scroller and the others are Tomb Raider "clones".

As you can see there is "blue print" or rules for Duke, even if it will forever remember as an FPS, Duke has more games as a third person shooter (Time trilogy) and even on the side view (1, 2 and Manhattan Project) than an FPS (3D and Forever), unless you want to count the GBA port.

But the signature of Duke is there:

- Adult jokes? check, all the way
- Duke silliness? from the "balls box" to the level where you go small on a burger tower
- Reference to other popular IP? Check as well, even giving some hits at Halo and Dead Space (for example)

It will definitely didnt live to the expectations of like 14 years (and like 3 development resets), but saying it has nothing to do us just ridiculous. It feel like a Duke Nukem 3D successor, maybe not the best sequel and it clearly has its flaws, but it fits right there. The "fans" and many other just hated it because it was the popular thing to do back then. Like the Star Wars prequels.

Here's a more recent one that got barely any love and flopped in sales but is really good. This is from the same developer as American McGee's Scrapland, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Dread, etc.

I actually liked this game quite a bit. I'm amazed sometimes at how decent and fun games can get mercilessly attacked by people with absurdly high expectations. Just because a game isn't a game changing masterpiece doesn't mean it's garbage.

You do NOT understand Duke. Duke as a character isn't "edgy f-bombs, sex jokes and unironic testosterone", he is the insane man in a straight-laced world: Ever since Duke 1, he was designed as an explicit parody of macho action heroes, and indeed, if you were to play 3D, you'd realise that Forever missed the point, not just of who Duke is, but of what Duke as a franchise is meant to be.

In 1, 2, 3D, and the spin-offs, most of the jokes were built around either loving homages and nods to the films that inspired the Duke, such as the 3D level "Pigsty" opening up with Duke saying "I'll be back!" as a car rams into a police station, or absurd nods to the culture of the times, such as a billboard in Manhattan Project advertising a show called "I Married a TR**NY!", spoofing shameless, exploitative reality TV from the 2000s, or the entire bit involving the "society for preparation of the canine hamburger" in 3D. And whenever the jokes DID delve into sexual material, it was usually a lot more tasteful and subtle as opposed to what we get in Forever.
Duke Nukem Forever on the other hand ditches any form of tact, art or taste in favour of being a mean-spirited, spiteful parody of modern gaming where most of the humour comes from people being assholes, Duke being treated as the greatest thing in the world, and obsession with the act of placing the penis in the rectum. The "signature of Duke" is NOT there, and if it is, it's been perverted beyond all recognition.
In fact, saying that Forever is just like the original games is WHY Forever killed the series, why the franchise has attracted a slew of anti-SJW douchebags, and why shitmeister Adi Shankar is now going to finish what Forever started and kill the Duke once and for all: Critics of the time (and even today) say that the game is just like the older entries because they had no interest in said entries, and this resulted in casual gamers wanting nothing to do with Duke Nukem as an IP. So yeah. You are wrong on so many levels.

(And don't even compare this to the Star Wars Prequels; those movies are different from the originals, but they still understood the core of Star Wars and are honestly really good. Unlike Duke Nukem Forever.)

I haven´t seen a mention of it so I do the deed

It is my favorite Character Action Game, I love it!
I disagree, but at the same time, like I said, if you were to strap me down to a table, have a laser pointed at my crotch, and force me to choose between having DmC forced on to my computer or watching the abhorrent abomination that is Netflix May Cry... I'd pick DmC any day of the fucking week. At least there, the gameplay is meant to be really good, unlike Netflix May Cry which doubles down on all the bad things of DmC and escalates them to calamitous levels.

LMAO... the cope. Good bait sir, regardless, I will indulge.

"Duke Nukem is not what it all seem to be. It is what I think it is! YOU dont know media literacy" *soyface*

Duke Nukem is your 80s-90s action man hero: he kick asses, he gets the girls and he eat burgers.

AAAAAND NEVER MIND! Your kind doesn't get Duke Nukem at all and my attempts at arguing with you were for naught. Consider yourself ignored.
