Original Xbox with insignia

I just paid a modder to do the work and get my xbox modded. I was able to keep my Insignia account setup on it and it feels totally cool to be playing xbox online today. I already had the xbox softmodded, I looked into the work it took to get a SSD swapped in...I didn't feel like spending the time to learn that.

Anyone else?

What games are we talking? I have an Xbox and an Insignia account just waiting to be used again. So depending on the game I would be up to play some.
Also, what type of mod did you get done? Apart from the obvious storage addition I mean.

I got the Stellar chip installed, SSD swapped in, and recapped system. Just to keep it on par with the other systems with their ODEs.

The only two online games I've played so far still require the disc to play online. Didn't test it very long but I was able to play one game of Halo 2. Works great.

I had no problems with supported game needing discs whatsoever and I always play from HDD.
So far I played:
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
OutRun 2
Halo 2
Phantasy Star Online

I've read about some problems with dashboards that disable Xbox Live, so that might be your problem?

But nice mods :D
Mine is only tsop flashed and has a 80gb HDD I had lying around. I should really replace the caps :|

I was planning on getting an OG Xbox soon since a former-friend stole mine a few years back. What kind of mods do you need to get Insignia running? Hoping that I can boot up some Timesplitters Future Perfect and Counter-Strike on the thing. Maybe even some Project Gotham Racing 2 or some sports games if any of the XSN games have been brought back online.

Short answer:
No hardmods needed. Here's a guide by MrMario2011

Long answer:
Still no hardmods needed but I would still recommend at least a custom BIOS via tsop flash, new storage and clock cap removal. The last one can leak and kill your mainboard.

For a game list you can look up your games on the Insignia website.

I don't think I've encountered any cheaters. Matchmaking kinda depends on how many people are currently playing. Not that many people still have an Xbox and play on it. Much less online.
I'd recommend looking at the Insignia website if there are people playing and their discord for getting a lobby together if there's no one playing.

And how was it? Is it worth to try gather a bunch of people for it? As I remember the main goal there is to finish all levels together and after that just do more runs for a better loot.

4 out of 5 times the server (shtshack or something like that) was pretty populated. Connection was pretty stable and all but I didn't test much. I didn't see any technical issues. I think it would be worth at least trying.

You can also change the server in the profile settings on the Insignia website. There are some different you can choose from.

In my experience people really only like playing hardcore slayer and most players are from the Americas. It wasn't really fun as a casual/bad player from EU lol. I loved playing Counter-Strike though but it's hard to find lobbies . Best thing to do is lurk in the discord and try keep up to date with events.

Also for anyone interested in Insignia, keep in mind most of the "Ready for HDD" rips will not work online since they do not have all the required files. You have to source actual copies, you can still back up full copies to internal storage and they will run fine (which is what I do).

I've been working to address this. My only thought is it may not work correctly with emulators? I think emulators mount the entire ISO but I'd be happy to be wrong about that.

It's awesome, join the insignia discord too so you can hop in on all kinds of events. Halo 2 is almost always popping off in the evenings.

After like, idk... 20 years? I finally full filled my dream of having an OG Xbox. It is stock, and working really well so far.

I saw online that the Xbox community managed to set servers for the OG Xbox up. Originally I only though that Insignia was possible but I heard there are more options like Xlink.

Are those 2 the only ones? Which one is the best or can I have both?

I run a linux system so I know that probably any installation is going to be a little more complicated, so I would like to just do it (successfully) once if I can

Ok, I ended up installing insignia on my stock Xbox. It was really easy, and honestly pretty amazing too: it is 1:1 Xbox Live.

If anyone has some Xbox live games you should try them. As far as I understand it even works with emulators.

But now to the reason of my post:

I want to know if any of you guys still using Insignia, my username is Kenai (I know im a man of a thousand ideas) and I usually play:

- Star Wars Battlefront 2
- DooM 3
- Unreal Championship
- Conker Live & Reloaded
- Counter-Strike
- Halo 2
- Rainbow Six 3

And I would also like to see if anyone could be interested in maybe running some events to play any Xbox Game as RTG. I know Insignia has its own events, but the discord can be chaotic at times will all the people, so I dont think it would be bad if anyone want to play something and we can coordinate here.
