sorry i am off topic of ogre game. i am confused to send you message privately, i found bug of save data not being read, in the game Super Robot Taisen OG Gaiden, But so far it's very good I like it thank you~ ♥️
Sorry, I have DMs closed currently, but I'll open them, then you can DM me and I'll help you out, okay?

Unfortunately, it's really glitchy for me. Whenever I return to Warren after liberating the two cities, his text breaks up into an endless string of “U.”
That didn't happen for me, rather odd. I'll test again.

Edit: I can't reproduce this. What kind of emulator/device are you using?

I don't suppose that this is compatible with the Ogre Battle Army Balancing Mod (Hack) is it?
I very much doubt it is, as this targets a Japanese ROM.

I was going to say, “The info says the game was released in 1998, 28 years ago, but I think it was actually 1993…a whopping 33 years ago!” but then I realized the special update (Nintendo Power download thing) was 1998 as the post correctly says!

So my comment is rather pointless. Sorry for reading. However, if I’m allowed to keep talking, I find it annoying when music albums on iTunes are dated to the year of a remaster or a re-publish instead of the original art-history relevant year of release.
I agree that platforms need to keep track of both original dates and remaster/re-release dates in these cases, to maintain accuracy.

I was disappointed to hear that the Saturn translation of Tactics Ogre used the PSP script. I guess I would've liked to have seen how another person or group would've handled the text, even if that would be largely pointless given we have two quite different official scripts to pick from.
Lol, I'm also a complete sicko for novel translations of the same title. I guess I just love Tactics Ogre and that universe so damn much, I want to see as many new takes on the story as possible, even if it's redundant. Absolutely agree on the charm of this translation though - as I said, it's rough, but the simplicity/colloquial nature of it is kind of entertaining as a contrast to the 'high English' tone of the PSP/Reborn script.

I'm curious, what is considered the definitive versions of the Ogre Battle & Tactics Ogre games across the SNES, PlayStation, Sega Saturn & PSP ports? I know Tactics has a remaster on Steam, but I see a lot of negative reviews for it because of gameplay changes a lot of people consider for the worst.

For Ogre Battle, I kinda forgot about the Saturn port. It might be the definitive one since it has voice acting and five exclusive maps. Ogre Battle 64 is a completely different game despite the name, and Zenobia no Ouji is also a different game... I think.

Tactics Ogre is a lot harder to pin down since its three 'eras' are so different:
  • SNES/PS1/Saturn are the same game, just PS1/SAT are enhanced ports. I think the Saturn version also has voice acting and doesn't 'hitch' when loading during battle compared to the PS1? SNES is worth mention simply because it packed so much content into 3 MB / 24 megabits of cart. The hearts/lives system from PSP onward isn't here, so any of your units hitting 0 HP out of Training are permadead unless you know where to get the Revivify spell.
  • PSP makes some drastic changes from the above, requiring levels for equipment, changing classes now use Classmarks instead of stats, no Training, there are now Skills and SP to buy them, some Skills require extensive grinding to level, the Coda chapters, the World Tarot quasi-New Game Plus... Some people say the One Vision mod rivals Reborn for the definitive edition since it lacks Reborn's controversial changes while bringing much-needed balance and quality-of-life changes to the PSP's version.
  • Reborn makes further changes to PSP, enforcing a Union Level cap, Training is back but random world map battles are gone, replacing TP and making Finishers much more common, and buff cards changing the flow of battle. And a graphics filter.
  • The Knight of Lodis is a completely different game, too.
...So, if you were going to play Tactics Ogre ever once, it's probably gonna be down to One Vision or Reborn. I still want to go through the PS1 version to see the original script and avoid the bugs in the SNES version, but the loading will annoy me to no end.

We should all appreciate the fact that Queen's second album was so good that it spawned a whole video game series.

Interesting! I'm playing through the SNES version at the moment and haven't come across those bugs. Weird, will keep an eye out for that. And agreed re: the quality of the translation. I am incredibly thankful to them for putting it in and can imagine how difficult it was on a technical level (box sizes are insanely small, it's very difficult to fit English script in) but it's rough coming from the PSP localization, which is a good one.
There is some... charm in how rough the official PS1 translation is. Vice calling Kachua a bitch after recruiting the Zenobians at the start, the number of times 'shit' appears when that level of cursing wasn't common in games at the time... I've read about but haven't experienced "There is also such a thing as the immune system. It can purify the evil within the soul."

Wish Tactics Ogre SNES would get a second pass someday.

I played through the PS1 version of this quite a few years ago. Apart from loading hitches, the music restarts when you pause where it doesn't in the SNES, so wonder if this is closer to a definitive edition now or not.

Apart from the translation just being the PS1 script ported backwards, I've read of two bugs: One where one of a unit's stats will drop to zero for no reason, another where "...How unkind of you." will appear repeatedly in battle. Aeon Genesis wrote that it was incredibly difficult to put the PS1 translation in the game, so I'm thankful for that, but I don't know if these two issues appear in the unmodified JP release or not.
