You know how, sometimes, there's a part in a game that just... pokes at your brain, even though it's completely unremarkable otherwise?

For TLoU players, this is one such part:

If you have ever played TLoU, you know that the game just loooooves its "visual landmarks" (and for good reason — they really do help you navigate the rubble-filled maps), but this one has bugged people for a really long time because... well... there's something kinda disturbing about the fact that they chose to have reflectors shining down on solar panels, something that has been the subject of many jokes and serious posts ever-since the game first released.

Like, you see that and your brain immediately takes over, desperately wanting to make it work. It's like the ultimate #lifehack these people have blindly stumbled upon — self-renewing energy or something. That's some next level shit right there.

But then, none of the characters comment on it (despite it being the first bit of working electricity they have seen in ages) and then you start to realize that the map designer - or whoever was in charge of placing the props - was just taking oceanic levels of piss while finishing up the area. It's at that point you get back to zombie-killing mode and forget all about this possibly revolutionary piece of ingenuity, much like the characters themselves did.

/Joint = smoked xD

I can only suppose it's because their precious solar panels would get damaged if they were outside in the zombie apocalypse. That is just a basic supposition though, it's still an odd choice.

Is that even the same kind of energy? Aren't solar panels capturing natural light to get to be converted into electricity?

Not sure if I actually got the premise here. English bad.

Maybe? Most people (myself included) think that they were trying to heat up the panel through the lamps to... power up the lamps?
Solar panels capture light instead of heat lol through photovoltaic cells... I like the way the developers placed Solar Panels in the Desert area on CrossCode, tho. That's science wise.

Converted energy is supposed to lose properties of what is meant to be captured by the technology, but I could be wrong.

There is also solar heating in which you will sometimes see dark looking panels on a roof with some kind of tubing. Those are PV panels and hence the wrong kind, as far as what they might be going for I guess.

I know how they work, I was just saying what the game is deliberately trying to show.

Or maybe not — the placement is quite odd.

Haven't come across to the tech yet, I might search about stuff!

Yes, there are games in which they're placed accordingly. Like CrossCode.

To answer the question your title is implying, I guess it's definitely just there lmao

Can we include Kaileena's Island from "Prince of Persia: Warrior Within" in this case?

Even when the structures were at their peak, only parkour professionals could reach the Queen 🤭

I like that!

Also... the entirety of the original System Shock — how was anyone supposed to navigate that space base?
