"Nintendo's Lawyers Deal Potentially Fatal Blow To ROM Sharing" - Techcrawlr

I thought something major had actually happened but it's a nothingburger, who gives a fuck that Nintendo has taken down 1fichier. They've already taken down several rom sites and file sharing websites in the past and an alternative always comes along after a while.

For what?... Even in the hypothetical that "we kill all romsites".
Will you provide easy access to your properties, or just crappy ports "legal emulation"(my ass) and dubious remakes.
What about those games with licensing issues?
Just a kid with power throwing a fit... I guess.

Fatal blow my big fat Keester, lol. Rom sharing will never die, cut one site down, fifty more grow in it's place. I say this from firsthand experience, nintendo is fighting a battle they will quite literally NEVER win.

Then make the games available

Idk why this is such a difficult concept for them to grasp. They remastered Metroid Prime, and did a phenomenal job. They have some titles available for emulation on the switch, but that's locked behind a rather hefty paywall. They should be providing these games for cheap emulation if they want people to stop pirating them.

I never understood why companies are like this. I mean Bethesda straight-up released Arena and Daggerfall for free download on their official website because the games are so old and out of print. They even gave instructions on how to use an emulator. Daggerfall Unity is a thing, and the community is constantly updating and improving the game so it's more available to newer audiences. And Bethesda encourages people to do this with their games! People are doing full game remake fan projects and they're not stopping them. It's clearly not damaging the company.

I guess I will never understand why companies don't look at other companies that are doing right by their fans, and go 'hey, maybe we should follow this example.'

Facts. As much hate as Blizzard gets, they released many of their old games for free on their website like the Lost Vikings games and Blackthorn.

Nintendo is still trying to get us to pay for SMB3 after buying it a bunch of times for various consoles.
