"Nintendo's Lawyers Deal Potentially Fatal Blow To ROM Sharing" - Techcrawlr

Everytime I see news about Nintendo laweyrs doing this kind of shit, I am remembered of an old brazilian adage:

"Pirating Nintendo. So damn tasty"

the thing about the law is there's vastly more people willing to break it than they can realistically punish. i have no doubt we will see some examples made, but in the end someone is always willing to be the hero. as long as there's an archive of roms somewhere, there'll be someone willing to host them.

I still think that if only Sony and Microsoft are making console hardware this wouldn't be a great thing.
Well it would only be Sony becuse Microsoft kind of given up reason they barly care about console exlusive.

I grew up on nes, snes, master system and so on and my first PC I did not have until I was 15 years old and it was a 486. I would say I was a console gamer until like 2015-16.

What Im getting at is and I hate to say it Console today are pointless I mean the price of PS5 today is allot for a console equal to a like mid tier PC with a RTX 2070 or RTX 2070 super.

And honestly for the price of PS5 pro you can build a pc which is stronger than a Ps5 pro and if you badly want something to play on TV something small and cheap that can run steam link would work or even micro atx build can work.

And that´s the issue with consoles today they are just mid range PC but sucks allot doing PC task other than playing games.

It was diffrent back in the 90s a proper PC could cost you around $2500-3500 range while a snes 200 bucks. So diffence was wast and if you only wanted to play games a console made sense.

today PS5 pro is like what 700 bucks slap another 300 bucks and you can get a PC that outshines a PS5 pro.

honestly today I see no pros for owning a console over PC. Other than consoles save you 200-300 bucks. But if you asked me in the 90s early 2000 yeah I would say there are reasons to own a consoles over a PC.

Also console exlisive games are bullsihit for allot of reason but biggest reason is sales.
take xenoblade chronicles 3 As of March 2023, it has sold 1.86 million copies.
I bet my ass on that if it was on PC,PS5 and xbox and switch the game would sold 5-8million maybe even 10 million compies.

My point is having consoles exlusive means your getting less sales and less sales = game not popular enugh to get sequals often than not that´s one big reason. Not every one will blow 300-700 bucks to by a system for 1 or 2 games.

Well I've got all my favorite games backed up, so Nintendo can't do jack shit.
Would've gotten more if my hard drive wasn't showing signs of dying.

The ps5 does not sell because it has no exclusives->less people buy games for the console->exclusivity deals are less appealing to publishers so no exclusives.
It's an endless cycle really.

Obviously pc is better, the games are free there so it's just a one time purchase.

actually agree tho. As horrible as Nintendo is with their IP rights, they are still the best at actually making consoles. Sony is comically evil with extremely overpriced hardware that has no games, and Microsoft is the repeat winner of the annual "slamming your dick in the car door" competition and seems to keep trying to NOT make more XBoxes sell.

They seem disinterested in the console business these days, It's weird.

Less sales don't really mean less profit, if you sell games exclusively on a platform you own like Nintendo does, you get almost 100% of the profits, and you don't even need to pay for physical distribution if it's digital. When you start selling games on other platforms such as Steam, Playstation and Xbox, those companies take a cut of the games' sales (which is not small). Sony started to sell games on pc because their games sell so few copies that, even if they got a 100% cut, it wouldn't be profitable for them

And as much as it pains me to admit it, despite the IP protection they care more about their licences than Sony "we don't have any IP yet we show them in Astro Bot" and "Your fridge is an Xbox" Microsoft.

If we remove Halo and Bethesda what is the most emblematic Microsoft IP today? They strive thanks to third and second parties but Microsoft Game Studio barely is a thing sadly...

Sony loves technical showcases and technologically advanced tools like VR but aside from Astro Bot when did we get an IP that isn't a third person open world adventure game?

Nintendo got hiccups (like Labo/Game Workshop and sadly Arms not meeting their expectations) but they got us new Metroid games, managed to make Splatoon more than a one off game for the Wii U and still tried some new ideas (even if they're not all perfect).

Unless consoles are truly becoming a thing of the past and that we'll have to witness the end of the video game industry as we knew...
