From mid february 2027 Nintendo will stop selling the original Switch models in Europe.

There goes Nintendo's budget option for europeans...

Seems like leaving money on the table to me, but I'm not a stupid asshole in charge of a juggernaut, so I'm obviously not qualified to make the call...

They most likely want people to buy the new one

Not to mention that with this the sales will skyrocket for those console collectors and the ones that want one to hack them

Also the ones that want to resell them later

It's probably because of the removable battery law that comes to effect in Europe next year. Nintendo probably finds more profitable to push europeans to the Switch 2.

I saw this news. Is it true that in Europe they will now have removable batteries for cell phones?

I was thinking about that, but I don't think that it applies retroactively...? Eh, who knows.

It's true. Devices will be forced to have removable batteries.

I think it applies to all tech from next year on.

The original model with the sealed battery are being discontinued? Or Switch models in-general?

Is a mixed feeling. On one hand, removable battery opens the option to just buy a new one once it starts to die instead of the whole thing just for that (like those cellphones with integrated battery... they become a headache later)

On the other hand we got this, since this isnt the Switch 2 the company find it better to just stop making the original than just add the removable battery for yet another new version of the console

I wish Europe had enforced this law sooner so that we could've had a Switch 1 model with a removable battery. I already hacked the switch I got for my birthday years ago but it could've been sick having an OLED with a removable battery

i wonder if they might have to slash the price for Europe, given that they've now lost their cheaper option
Big doubt on that one. If anything they'll probably put the price up again because "well now you don't have a choice".
