Hey all.

Tonight I finally worked myself up to properly complete Claris’s side of NiGHTS into Dreams. JP Saturn version, on a white Saturn console, with a North American 3D control pad. A horrific mismatch, I know.

I’ll be beating Elliot’s side soon, as I find it to be far harder than Claris’ side. The game is very short, so I’ll be able to do it if I just set my mind to it. Obviously, I’ll be coming back to my favorite levels to try and perfect my runs until the day I die, but I’d like to actually finish this game before the year is over. And before December starts so that way, if I have a NiGHTS craving during that month, I can devote myself entirely to Christmas NiGHTS. I will try to devote myself to getting all the presents in that game before the Christmas season is through.

To celebrate, here’s some concept art of the NiGHTS character from the development of the game:

I wish mods for Nights could be more commonplace yet I feel like this series is too niche and since the Steam release has been removed it will demotivate people.

A bit scary.

That reminds me of how the Fonewm and Fonewearl classes in PSO are also jesters (which have one hat similar to Nights').

Wait, they delisted Nights on Steam? Since when?! Why on earth would they do that with one of the few modern ways to play that game legit.

Since last November IIRC (alongside Space Channel 5 Pt 2, Jet Set Radio and Sega Bass Fishing).

Why on earth would they do that with one of the few modern ways to play that game legit.
Because Sega are dumb*sses like always.

Most likely, they want to sell you the game again.
I already will preach that the Steam version of the game isn’t the best version (it feels less responsive and I’d argue it has less appeal in its art design), but NiGHTS should be available to everyone.

Also, I agree about mods. Christmas NiGHTS feels kinda mod-like, but it would be cool to have fanmade levels.

I kind of want a mod that gives the whole game the Christmas NiGHTS makeover.

But chances are were not getting proper mods or mod support if they won't even sell the fecker in the current form.

This year, I'm just gonna use the ROM of the Christmas NiGHTS disk like a normal person.

Buen on my backlog for agesssssssssss.

I should really get around to playing it.

How are we four pages into a Nights thread and no one has brought up the Japanese exclusive PS2 DreamPack?

This is the top boy version. The PS3/Steam versions are just 1080p versions of this game but with content removed!
But the Dreampack comes with other stuff too like a cool book

I had this, but sold it years ago when I went all digital and sold my physical media.

In spite of my continued distain for the PS2 port and all those that later derive from it, I adore this combo. I didn’t know it existed, since Japanese PS2 isn’t something I’ve researched much. I knew the port of the game existed though, since it’s how the game has been ported ever since, seeing as SEGA refuses to put the time, effort, and money into emulating Saturn.

I do wonder just how much effort Sega DID put into bringing over Sega Saturn games. You should try the Japanese Panzer Dragoon SegaAges game:

Upon loading the game up, it actually runs through the Saturn boot up screen which is strange. I always wondered if it was actually running modified Saturn code.

I’d guess not. It might use the Saturn intro, but I’d best guess it uses the prior released PC version of PD1 as a base.

Hey guys. I beat it.

I think it’s very worth it to see NiGHTS through to the end. The way the end comes out is very cute and nice. Also, this game plays on my love of dreamlike vibes, similar to how Klonoa and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon do. Banger game, not my favorite, but it makes me FEEL GOOD.

This honestly looks sort of dope. Would have been a cool addition to he PS2 collection but it's like £80 to import so probably on the back-burner for now lmao

Did you get A ranks on all the stages? You get a different version of the end credits song if you do.

wow, I did not realize there were so many fans for this junk game franchise.
Maybe I'll put down Virtua Fighter 2 to check it out.
Nah... Just kidding. The Nights game I have is under my wobbly kitchen table
leg making it steady. like...

I would imagine. I’ll have to do that sometime, but I had been pussyfooting around just beating the game normally, so I chose to just sit down and do it.

Beating the game is fun, but yeah, the REAL game of NiGHTS is the score attack. I’ll be playing this game until the day I die.

Also, for those who may be interested, here’s a super cool NiGHTS into Dreams website! It’s a fansite, just full of fandom love for the game. I’ll have to explore it later to look up fun facts for NiGHTS.

As well, here is the official Japanese website! Much like many other SEGA sites from that time, it’s still up! Of course, it won’t display properly if you have ascii settings, but you can get it to display properly with the right setup.

Until next time I post majorly, happy dreaming!

Yeah, score attack is the whole point of NiGHTS. Obviously later incorporated into the Sonic franchise with their ranking systems. Though I'd say the only other game that captures the appeal of the original NiD is Donkey Kong Jungle Beat for Gamecube. It has the same basic loop of trying to get as high a score as possible through the stages by linking huge combos, and then trying not to flub it all on the boss fight.

Probably a huge reason why I love Jungle Beat so much lmao One of my favorite GameCube/Wii games.

I think the early 3D Sonic’s with ranking systems get me hooked in a similar way, without the multiplier at the end of course, but I don’t want to turn the thread into a Sonic opinion flame war so I’ll stop right there. All else I’ll say is that I love me a good score attack and I love me a good ranking system! And NiGHTS specializes in both!

I'm sorry but what are you gaining from making that comment?

You not liking it is a thing but purposefully joining a topic and saying that isn't constructive at all.

Wasn't it by the same guys behind Bananza?
