(I was going to put a picture of a champagne uncorking shooting out a Famicom, but I never did learn to edit images. Another potential resolution, I guess.)

There *is* a thread on what we're looking forward to in 2025, thanks antii, but let's get a little less aspirational in this one.

What game, series, genre, system, whichever, are you resolving to try/explore/eat and run three miles on the energy consuming it's corpse gave you?

One of mine, for instance, will be finishing Trails in the Sky.

I beat the first game ages ago, I really should get through Second Chapter in 2025. Maybe I can finally try out the Cold Steel games!

There's also a backlog of games like Betrayal at Krondor, tweaking more unit comps in Unicorn Overlord, and (I hope) losing my goddamn mind getting competitive in City of the Wolves in a few months. Looking forward to polishing my Dong!

How about y'all?

Oh that’s easy. I want to:
  1. Finish 50 games
  2. 100% at least 5 games (will colored differently on the spreadsheet)
  3. Finish at least 10 RPGs (likewise will also be colored differently)
  4. Try to at least try one new sandbox series I never played
  5. Try to get back to 100%ing the GTA and Jak games
  6. Actually finally beat the psp Yakuza games
  7. Actually try to tackle my PPSSPP backlog
  8. Not gaming related but Hopefully finish my Naruto and Bleach rewatched.
  9. Replay Dragon Ball Budokai AF and actually write that review I’ve always had nagging in my mind.
And… that’s kinda it! Not a whole lot yes but I like staying organized haha. I’m already prepping the spreadsheet which I’ll probably post later and constantly update when possible.
Post automatically merged:

My New Year Resolution is hopefully going to be 4K finally.
Good luck!!

So everyone can see your individual pores? I could never be that free!

Damn, that's ambitious....and now *I* want to make a game spreadsheet.
Wouldn't you like to know? ;)!

Yes, you would. That's why you made the topic.

I would like to finally play the Silent Hill games.
yes yes i would

That ones a big gap for me too, I've only played the original.
I'm hope to finish my mission in the next year.
....is it....is it okay to just say that in front of the humans, what will command think?

Edit: I just realized you might be talking about a religious thing in which case my bad and best of luck!

No, I meant my mission to play every single official Mega Man game.

I think the only game I have left from classic is… Rockman soccer?

Careful! I’ve used google spreadsheet for literal years but it’s not quite as reliable anymore! Might switch to Excel instead.

- Find more Jank stuff
- Getting all the achivements on more game
- Play and finish the Digital devil saga Duology
- obtain a PS3
- play and finish SMT NINE with the english script
- Play and complete Dragon Dogma as a Mage
- Finish once for all Dragon Age Inquisition

This year I want to
  • Get into old school strategy games like Starcraft, Age of Empires, Red Alert
  • Truly experience a pokemon game and not quit it after first rival battle
  • Develop my journaling skills to make my gaming journal more interesting to write.
I’d say you’re not missing out much with Pokémon. Playing it for the first time in 2024 only rewarded me with nerdy knowledge I can’t unlearn and interactions with dickish communities haha.

I have no particular gaming-focused resolutions for 2025. As with every year, I’ll play the first game that catches my interest, then move on to another one, as I usually do — when it comes to entertainment, I prefer being sporadic.

HOWEVER.

The one exception to this mindset is that, this year in particular, I’m going to be watching Nintendo like a hawk. I want to see what happens with the Switch 2. I want to have some lifeline to modern gaming — PlayStation truly sucks this generation, Xbox means having to sell my soul to Microsoft, and I don’t have the money or technical know-how to commit to a high-spec PC. Nintendo has two IPs I like — Mario and Zelda — and that just might be enough if the hardware is right.

That’s going to be the killer for me going forward: the Switch 2’s hardware. I already know it’s going to be hideously out of date. I know it’s not really going to be a modern console. But if they make it ergonomically comfortable, and they increase the screen size ( + resolution), and they make it more durable, and they fix the fucking fucking fucking fucking controller drift… then, yeah, I’ll buy one. I’ll buy it knowing that I’ll play a few overpriced first-party games and 90% games from over 15 years ago, but I’ll buy it.

Nintendo is the last video game company that seems to be making at least a token attempt to create the kind of games I like, and I’m theoretically their perfect customer, because I don’t care about all the emulator-busting and community-destroying evil things they’ve been doing over the past few years. So all they have to do is make a good piece of functioning hardware, and they’ll have my money, exclusively, for the next console generation. Hear that, Nintendo? This should be an easy win for you, so don’t fuck it up.

Is Jank a reference or just like, "janky" like busted?

Love goals 1 and 3, and for the second, genuinely, try Red/Blue if you haven't already. For all their age, I think they still might be the platonic ideal for those games.

Also a shop interface that doesn't make death seem like a comfort.

Gotta finish disgaea 3 and then beat most of the resident evil games and silent hill games

I should be careful around you, you keep telepathically leaking my thoughts! There’s literally nothing I can add here that wouldn’t just be repeating what you said verbatim 😂🤣

Basically games like Risen. Something unique that is not perfect but the idea or concept alone makes them special. DA Origins has a lot of jank stuff but is one of my favorite videogames of all time. The Same goes with Assassins creed 1 😅

Jank is a slightly finnicky term. I like it, and I use it positively but I know some folks who just say it as a shorthand for a poorly thought out critique haha.

Disgaea 3 was such a good reason to get a PS3.
Beating my RPG backlog of NES and SNES cult classics

Currently i am beating Mother 1 and i finished Crystalis
The best kind of backlog, I have a bunch of Final Fantasy romhacks I need to try out.
Infuse my body, my soul into Monster Hunter Wilds
I'll see you there in the outlands, like ships in the night.
Try to find like-minded individuals to play PSO Blue Burst with on the private server, from scratch.
Search engine is having such a hard time with this, I keep getting private server webpages and not a straightforward description. Is it the same game that was on Dreamcast/Gamecube, essentially?

@Cu-Neo Haaa man like I said, busted, I know the word. (The size of that definition screenshot has a real hostile energy)

I was just kinda worried Jank was a proper noun, between anime and untranslated games I'm not always hip to the lingo.

Make a dent in my backlog and not just replay old favorites again.
😞

Nope. It was exclusive to the PC in Japan that got a fan translation. It was PSO Episodes 3, 4 and so on. US only ever got Episode 1 and 2.
