Finally watched the new trailers! Tbh I think it looks fine for what it is. It's a less saturated but somehow more vibrant/dynamic color palette (still prefer OG CE's) and I like the mix of Infinite and CE's artstyle and since the artstyle for Infinite is the one thing people almost universally loved so it makes sense to just iterate on that where you can as opposed to throw it out. On a technical level it is one of the most impressive UE5 joints I've seen and I'm glad they still want to pump that kind of money into even a side project like this.
The new "campaign" just being a few missions is underwhelming but we don't really know how long they'll be and a mini-campaign that is about 2.5-3 hours long on a casual run is perfectly fine. I don't think they're in the position of someone like Capcom where they can risk cutting some things, introducing new things and heavily remixing things into the main campaign that might be more controversial, going for as easy of a W as they can with this is all they can really afford to do when they're walking on eggshells.
The music sounds great, it is a pretty faithful rendition of the original's Halo theme but with just a bit more going on and a more vibrant mix, for lack of any technical terms. The violins sound a bit off to me, but its a nitpick I really don't think it is that big of a deal.
Keyes does look closer to 70 than he does to 60, but I don't hate it. Johnson's line delivery sounds super odd though and I worry that they haven't let Keyes speak in any trailers cause his VA might be doing a mid job too. The fact he's gonna have a whole new voice is def gonna be a sore spot for a lot of people and the remake has mostly positive momentum right now so I get wanting to ride that and introduce as few things for people to glomp onto as major critiques as possible.
I think the only major complaint I have is with the animation style here. They have that damn jiggly/shakey animation style that has been all the craze since Modern Warfare 2019 got so much praise for that animation style. The shotgun in particular looks comical here and everything in general just feels a bit overanimated if that makes any sense.
The remake is still pointless to me, as most remakes are. At $50 it feels absurd, but I'd have wanted it to be $40 at most and I guess the extra $10 doesn't matter much. I'm still waiting for a sale or Game Pass either way. If it had multiplayer I'd be there day one, but whatever. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer for Halo 7. See less
