I know this is the one that's gonna be more accurate to the manga, for those interested. I'm definitely interested. I've really only liked the two animated movies though. Arise I never saw and I didn't like SAC.

Thanks for sharing—it really looks like Masamune Shirow's original drawings. This could turn out great :)
Hope it does well.
Same. It's also as nice to see a new anime again that goes for the old 80/90s aesthetic. I don't keep up with much anime. Unless it's something i'm really interested in. I heard the new Lupin is out too. Gotta really check on it.

Oh, absolutely—I’m not really into all those CGI anime or the ones with that overly polished look either. I grew up on stuff like Akira, MD Geist, Ghost in the Shell, or Record of Lodoss War; that style had real character and a certain dark edge to it.

I never cared much for MD nor ROLW, at least respect the art design of the latter. MS has grit but it was just another post apocket looked at anime copying Mad Max and FOTNS. I don't mind CGI in my anime. So long as it's implemented well or not overused, unless it's all a 3d anime to begin with. The most recent new anime I enjoyed are New Panty & Stocking, and Ninja Kamui. Both go for different art styles and the latter is pretty much a mid 2000s action anime throwback. I know some people did like the CGI ninja power armor but it never bothered me much, and I actually enjoyed the fight scenes either way. The hand drawn fightings are still the best though. There is also awesome season two of Megalobox. The second season is so awesome, it makes it much harder to go back and watch the first season.

The problem with CGI is that it often looks pretty cheap, especially when you see how poor the animations are or how they’re limited to 30 fps—the best example here would be the CGI anime adaptation of Berserk. I think that often has to do with the budget, which is larger for movies than for anime series. I was referring more to anime series; in movies, it can look good—that’s true. I’ll check out the anime series or anime movies; I still think the 80s/90s anime style is best when it’s well-executed in today’s context.

I really REALLY hope this is as good overall as the trailer looks.....

I'm a long-time fan of GITS, and aside from Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, which I couldn't get into, I have loved everything related to the manga and anime. Now, we aren't counting that horrible live-action GITS with Scarlett Johansson as Major.

How in the world did they copy the anime almost beat for beat and make it seem slower and less entertaining?

Anyway, I do hope this is more or less a 1:1 adaptation of the manga because it sure looks like it. And if that somehow is CGI, hats off to them because, from the trailer, I couldn't tell.

Thanks for the share.
Drink major sippy break.webp

I've been a huge fan of GITS going back to when I watched the first film on VHS shortly after release.
It was also the first manga I ever got back then, it was at a Borders bookstore. Before I had just borrowed manga from friends, mostly Patlabor, Akira and Nausicaa among others. I watched Arise and it was so lackluster to me I couldn't continue watching it, and it's been the same for me with everything following Arise besides the new SAC which I haven't seen. Again I gave the 'New Movie' a shot and found it to be more of the same. I cant say why an old episode of SAC is more engaging to me than nearly anything from Arise. This Science Saru movie looks promising though I can't help but feel some of these scenes look pretty flat to me since they're lacking the gradient shading found in the manga or the first film. 0:30 is a good example as this shot of the Major would have had far more shading and probably would have had a worn look to her suit. I loved Innocence, though it does have a very different feel, a dense plot and philosophical musings which reward multiple viewings, similar to the first film. As an aside for anyone who is a fan of Ghost in The Shell and hasn't seen Mamoru Oshii's "Avalon" I highly recommend seeing it at least once.

this look worse than SAC

this look worse than SAC
I know everyone has their personal preference, but there's nothing about this that looks "worse". Fine if this new show is not to your liking, but at least give it a chance. It's literally taking from the original source material in terms of art style. The manga wasn't perfect in art style day one either, and had its own little art evolution.

I was pretty sure they limited cgi in anime to a lower frame rate in order for it not to look like a video game, as well as to avoid the so-called soap opera effect. At least that's what they're trying to do... ::sailor-embarrassed
In cases where they blend 2d and 3d animation, a difference in frame rates between the two would be jarring.

In this case, it didn't quite work out😅

I'm talking about an effect like the one in Berserk from 2016:

A mix of 2D and 3D isn't a bad idea—you can see it works when you look at Guilty Gear—but unfortunately, there are also some not-so-great examples😅

I think most anime is crap these days but I'm cautiously optimistic its funny they've done so many ghost in th shell movies and shows but this looks like the first time they're actually trying to follow the source material I love SAC and the 90s movies but they are very different from the comic

A new trailer was released today
I am loving the jazz score here! I wasn't expecting them to do that. I am seeing this day one whenever I can.
Just saw it. The animation and art looks great. i hope it turns out good, it's been a while since a good Ghost In the shell anime was released
I really don't care much for the other adaptions, aside from the first two animated movies. This newest entry is basically doing the artwork from the original manga, so that peaks my interest. The fact that everyone's in their more comedic/eccentric personalities or how they were in the original, source material gives me more interests.
