So what did ya pick aka what do you prefer do you prefer the NES from Nintendo or the Master System of Sega.

I heard the Master System was a Flop in America but very successful in Europe and Brazil and even Oceania I think.

I personally like both I know I am a dirty fence sitter ;)
It was before my time I am just happy that I can enjoy the library of both awesome systems.

So what did you own as a Kid what was your choice and do you regret or are you happy with it.

I have grown up with NES, so i choose that! 😊

Also, apparently 100% of voters agree with me! 😎

Well not anymore besides wait till the Brazilian and European Battalion arrives with the Australian Legions ;)
could get a bit more interesting I assume most American will chose NES while in Europe it may be more nuances or even in favor of the Master System.

im choosing to fence sit but do prefer the nes slightly more just because of its massive library of games. its hard to compete really when its like 300 games on the ms vs 1000+ on the nes

They're both quality.
I think for a lot of folks it kinda depends where they're from/grew-up.

From the top down, the NES has the MS beat.
But there's some wonderful games on the MS. A lot of them I discovered here/on CDRomance!

Objectively speaking, the NES has a better library of games compared to the Master System. It also sold a helluva better (except in the European and Brazilian markets).

Still, while I prefer the NES, I have a certain fondness for the Master System as well. It's got some nice exclusives.

The Master System is the superior console in terms of hardware but sadly has fewer games,
so the NES wins in that regard

But I can't really chose and be a fence sitter since I love both Systems they have so great games
like Kirby Adventure or Wonder Boy 3 The Dragons trap those make it hard for me to chose.

The NES had a superior library thanks to Nintendo's unfair policies, but the SMS was technically superior by a rather large margin; that's what it boils down to.

Sadly their marketing sucked in America so they lost over there 😥which is sad the Master System had so much more to offer and the games it got where great but well as you already told Nintendo had a unfair advantage and so not many did develop on the Master System just imagine if Sega had more developers on the System back then what great games we could have gotten.

Not to mention superior ports of games like Final Fantasy, in all likelihood.

I am happy that they even ported Micro Machines but they could have improved the sprite work on it for the Master System what a missed opportunity still good game though.

Sadly most 3rd party devs worked under a minimal effort policy for multiplatform ports. Sega themselves are also at fault for not properly fostering their own machines enough.

True sad why have the advanced hardware if you don't take advantage of it what is then the selling point..
at least we got Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star.
Also this may be a good comparison.

would always pick the master system over nes - nes games were stupidly expensive and the advert voiceovers were always pure cringe

It's probably just down to what you grew up with.

I will say, however, that I was one of the kids I knew who knew that the Master System even existed, and if I recall it was a much easier experience to get a game to Actually Work. Both of my Nintendo consoles that I had over the years had SUCH a hard time actually playing the darn games, due to connector issues and Nintendo's lock-out chip being sensitive and all that. I'm sure that when I was just trying to play Zelda 1 after the 10th minute of trying to load the title screen without a flashing screen, without glitches, and praying to Gazuga that the whole experience hadn't taken my save games out, that I would have run to a Master System and games I could actually load in a heartbeat.

I read the manual for Zillion at an uncle's house, but never got around to playing it. I know I'll be disappointed, no matter what. Not because it's a bad game on the SMS, but because Bayonetta 1's unlockable Zillion guns make them look So Cool. The game Can't Possibly Live Up To That.

The NES, and yes, it is still the best console for the 8bit generation. Has 5 of my most favorite games, including Blaster Master, Ninja Gaiden trilogy, Zelda 2, StarTropics and Armed Dragon Villgust Gaiden (this game came out after the snes game, but IT IS SO MUCH BETTER). Also there are the mario games, but Allstars is much better imo.

Master System had way cooler graphics, almost 16 bits. The NES looks really primitive in comparison. But NES obvious have a infinite amount of classic games. And I personally don't really like the SMS soundchip.

nintendo just bombarded us with ads seemingly everywhere - you could sense the absolute corporate greed - i just never liked that company at all. i get it was the 80's and all , but nintendo came across as desperate to me.

But Nintendo just wants your best
They want your money..all of it

if i had been given an nes for christmas as a child - i would have been very lucky to have more then a handful of the actual games - they were double the price of master system games as far as i can remember. so glad i stuck with sega instead.

The NES was games where extremely expensive over here as far as I know
going from 79 to 89 Dm with some reaching 100 Dm. (Deutsche Mark) the previous German currency.

Only very late some ''Classic'' games where reduced to 39 to 49 Dm as far as I am aware.
Buying games was back then a Luxus in Germany and more something preserved for Christmas or Birthdays.
