For ME final fantasy IX, Parasite Eve and Resident Evil 3 are the best games from the PS1. But I love most of the 90% of games I plan on this this gen.

Ffvii, Tekken 3, and mgs1 deserve the hype.

Broken Sword, g police and Darius (either one) for some lesser known stuff

Parasite Eve...you can never go wrong with this game. Avoid the sequel unless you like resident evil.

Megaman Legends 1 and 2, Legend of Legaia, and the syphon filter trilogy is also a must. Suikoden series is also ok and Final Fantasy Tactics is still my favorite FF game period.
