Neo. Geo.

I found a Neo-Geo mini-cade at my work that I later brought home. While it doesn't include my favorite SNK game of all time, Super Baseball 2020, it does at the very least have Crossed Swords, King Of The Monsters, Last Blade 2, Blazing Star, and good hunk of the Metal Slug games

Would love to mod it at some point to include the entirety of the Neo Geo's library

I wish I can obtain an AES. I'd imagine the price for one is beyond astronomical. I'd imagine having a blast playing Metal Slug 1 on it

That is all. About time I got one of these suckers.
I’ve had my eyes on the NGPC before. I instead chose to go with Famicom for my next hardware pickup, but I’ll keep my eye on the NGPC! I’ll also be looking into emulating the library more! Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, and Fatal Fury on the go babyyyyyy!!!

I didn't think making a separate thread for this was a good idea considering it could have been merged into this one, so I'll post it here. Individual games could be a different story, though.

Never owned neither of these. NEO GEO is the rich kids consoles.

Some people are still making games on the AES home version.

I played an actual Neo Geo once as a kid, because a different kid brought it over at summer day camp. Aside from that, it was either the actual arcade games, ports, or compilation ports on physical or digital.

My favorites are Fatal Fury 3, Robo Army, and Shock Troopers 2.

Should have posted this a while ago. At least I did so, now.
I'm still kinda baffled I was actually able to find some Neo Geo CD games.
I’ve found some too, and they’re ALWAYS grouped at retro game stores among Japanese Saturn stuff.

They’re rare to find, but I’ve found several titles. Mostly fighters, which are the games on the CD that have the biggest issues with loading. The CD seems to be alright for all the Neo titles that aren’t the most famous (the sports stuff, the earlier fighters, etc.)

Or you could just mod the NeoCD and play roms through it. But at that point, one wonders why you’re even bothering with the original hardware at all.

Gonna weigh in here aswell, why not!

I never got to see a NeoGeo in my time. Hell, I don't think I've seen an AES or MVS at all in person still.
It just never caught on here, arcades were effectively outlawed before it even came out, so it basically had 0 marketing. Not even entirely sure it ever even got an official release here.

Either way, I've been digging through the NeoGeo library lately because it emulates well on the arcade cab I have.
There's some really neat games on there, even outside of the 30 000 fighting games the system has.

Shock Troopers is among my favorite arcade titles of all time, it's so much fun.
Also recommend giving the Crossed Swords games a try. The sequel being a CD game (a cartridge converted ROM is out there) and overall the better pick.

Still hunting for more interesting games in the library, though it's not exactly extensive, so I fear I may have found all the gems already.

You can be funny and add the Samurai Shodown RPG from the Neo Geo CD library. Also Crossed Swords 2 is a CD exclusive, but still likely at home in your arcade machine. Controls are still the same in them after all. Blues Journey was a funky platformer I happened to try. Spin Master is weird action platformer with kids with yoyos. Neo Turf Masters is considered one of the best golf video games and I would not find a lot to say against that from the very little I tried. Sengoku 3 is graphically absolutely appealing beat em up from one of the top teams that worked on Neo Geo games, substantially different from the first two. Neo drift out is likely one of last top down racing games and blast.
Other half is shmups, neo geo has tons like Blazing Star and more. Though, since horizontal screen was the configuration your cabinet was meant to be in for all games to match in multi game cab, they are horizontal shooters.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Most of the games you mentioned are already loaded onto the cab, tho Blue Journey, Spin Master and Neo Turf Masters I have not played yet. I have heard of Neo Tuf Masters before tho.

I also loaded up early stuff like Magician Lord, but I find that one a little too unforgiving for my taste.

Replacement sticks! Even wireless! I NEED new sticks. I've tried one of those pads before, buttons throw me off how its laid out.

Allegedly, my old carts work on this system. Will one of these new carts work on my system? I only want Garou. If the music didn't suck in 2002, I'd get it.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want the white Neo Geo system.

Hmmm... In the early 90's videogames were not so popular as today. The highest thing a normal child could aspire to was getting 2 or 3 games per year: one for your birthday, another one for Christmas and maybe another one by spending some savings from your own. In that sense, having bros was a great deal in order to get more games per year, and having friends with the same console as you to exchange the games was indispensable. Just as said before, buying a NeoGeo AES was like paying for 3 SNES consoles, and every game was like paying for 7 or 8 SNES games, which was totally unafordable for me and my young folks.

Being honest, I knew the NeoGeo system by playing MVS games in the arcade rooms (KOF, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, Windjammers, Neo Turf Masters, Super Sidekicks...). In fact, I never saw an AES as a kid, I just knew it existed because of the videogames magazines, which were the only way for us to know about anything else than Sega or Nintendo in the gaming world back then.

So this high quality re-lauch of the best 2D home gaming system from the 90's seems a great chance to get that missed piece from my childhood that could never happen. I don't really like all the 10 games from the launching, but the joystick and the NeoGeo CD gamepad seem both pretty good. This new AES+ console is probably going to join my wishlist as soon as I am sure that it gets more titles and gets out of the reach of speculation.
