Yo! I bought DMC on Bluray on a whim one day and was pleasantly surprised.
That Opening goes hard

Probably the anime for Dragon Warrior that aired here in the early 90s. I don't know how long it originally was, but I think we got 13 episodes here? It was pretty good.

I also, for whatever reason, enjoyed the King Koopa show that aired at the same time as the Super Mario Bros Super Show. It was like a live action thing with kids in the audience and a guy in a king koopa costume, with older cartoons interspersed? I want to say it was like some of that 1930s "all these flowers are singing" happy ass cartoons, but it's been forever since I've seen anything other than the intro. Apparently the guy who played king koopa, threatened a kid who'd written in or something, and then it got pulled from the airwaves.

As a kid, I hated all the old cartoons that ditched the story, characterization, and mood of the games in favor of boomer humor and "original" ideas. It felt like I was being talked down to rather than being presented with something made by someone who actually enjoyed the games as well. The first game cartoon I respected (didn't really watch, but gave it props) was Pokémon. (Sonic SatAM came close, but still felt off to me.) Really, anime saved the game cartoon genre from the cesspool of cynical cash grabs (although it sometimes dips into this itself, especially with anything Pokémon-like).

These days, I enjoy Castlevania, though season 3 was mostly a letdown. Not sure how I feel about the most recent season, either, as it felt a little off. (Rondo of Blood is my favorite entry in the series, so I'm going to be pretty critical of how they handle it.) Fallout was really good, though. I'm looking forward to the next season.

We have been getting lots of Television media based on video games since the early 80s. Some were good, some were bad, But they gave us some silly humor and fun adventures with our favorite characters. So what were some of your favorite Video game TV series?

Dude you just unlocked the ultimate childhood memories. Before my first console ever. Came the TV

Anyone ever watch the Ninja Gaiden anime movie? that was tight. Watched it recently after finding out it existed. It serves as a finale to the entire series, reboots included.

You know, I’ve never watched the Saturday Supercade Donkey Kong show, but I’d actually really like to based on this promo art. I love those designs for Mario and Pauline — very cool take on the characters! When has anyone seen Mario wearing a turtleneck, before!?

Early video game shows are interesting because they're all fairly bad, but it's interesting to see the end result of going, "here's a game with like five screens and some flavor text, give me 20 episodes" or whatever. Like the one for Q*Bert where they... like went to high school or something, and all the bad guys were 50s-style greasers? Or the Dragon's Lair one where you'd get a choice at a commercial break, and then when it came back it would be like, "if you picked this, you fucked up" and it would show Dirk die before showing the right response

they're like that because there was hardly any lore for he games made in the 80's. the super mario bros show was mainly parodies of other shows and movies. the best one was "Star Koopa". best line of the episode: "May the Pasta be with you."

what does star wars have to do with mario? nothing. is Darth Koopa the best Sith Lord? you can bet your sweet bippy that he is.

fairly bad

Your first point contradicts your second, because that sounds like the best cartoon ever made. ? While I generally do prefer faithful adaptations, I must admit that these cheesy old completely nonsensical ones are really awesome, too.

I will say that the Pac-Man christmas special is probably better than most 80s cartoon specials. Both on a legit and on a joking level.

Of course its the masterclass in storytelling that was Netflix's Resident evil.

Street Fighter II V and Virtua Fighter anime were neat too.

Pokemon and Edgerunners. Pokemon was also my first anime and for many years I didn't even know that it was based on a game ?
