Name an anime which conned you in to watching it.

Shield Hero.
I don't watch a lot of modern anime so I didn't know what kind of story it was, I just thought the main character looked kind of neat on the poster.

It was nothing but

Maaaan I actually got around to the second half of (netflix) Devil May Cry & the final episode was some of the worst, troll-ish, lame-ass ending I've ever seen in anime.
Playing Green Day's American Idiot during the final scenes of the show is one of the most disrespectful things done to an adapted franchise! ::angrygenjin
Every scene with Dante is cool but holy cow, this was truly the definition of getting conned into watching something...
Yeah started out well enough. They fit all the catch-phrases in though!

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE! I completely forgot this anime existed! I would have added it too on my post!

Can't believe people were overhyping this thing!
Even thought I was enjoying some parts of season 1, i realized really quick how awful the writing and world building were!
Black and White morality, idiot balls everywhere! EVERYONE IN THIS ANIME WHO IS NOT AROUND THE PROTAGONIST'S HAREM OF SLAVE GIRLS IS AN IDIOT!

Didn't even finished season 2, completely dropped it because it became boring! Maybe for the best

Is it me, or does all these western "anime"! shows all look the the same character design for Voltron? I swear they must have a sweat camp some place!

yeah, it's pretty common for people to mimic the art style of more popular shows. you are not imagining things. this has been happening since the dawn of art.

and unfortunately this artstyle has been stigmatized for me because of NETFLIX and Adi Shankar Castlevania (still a hater of it since Day #1) and the recent DMC flop

My friend REALLY wanted me to watch The Legend of Vox Machina but I hated the artstyle and I instantly rejected (yes it is guilt by association, i admit it)

Gave it 1 episode try, dropped it! Gore and Swearing makes is not my cup of tea for "Mature animation", its very try hard

"Can WE please stop watching animated series because you find a character HOT?"

Yeah thrust trapping stopped working on me ages ago, when i was still in my teens, as i started to question the point as you only end up being used and disappointed.

Hot take, i think any one should respect themselves, their time and their value rather then simply giving in to the first shinny they see, as glamour but no substance means a bad time! Imho.

This is valid for gaming, anime, manga, movies, partners, people in general, etc.

Hot Take, higher standards need to make a come back.

it seems to be a symptom of over protective parenting that make people think that have lots of pointless gore, violence, sex and swearing makes something "mature".
that might not be the best way to word it; but it is defiantly some sort of problem that occurs when someone is prevented from seeing any sort of "mature" stuff when they are young. i understand not wanting a youngster to watch something inappropriate, but a lot of people get shielded from that stuff for a long while and then when they are exposed to it, they go overboard.
having some of that stuff in a show is alright, but you usually can't go too overboard with it. and if you do, you should have a point to it.

i do find that last sentence to be kind of funny. i got several video games specifically because i saw a hot chick on the cover or in a video game magazine. not a one was a disappointment.

No offense intended by it, my point was there is focused content with the hot chick or draw elements, but if that's all the content has and nothing else of substance, i see that as a problem. As if the value is always that one hot chick or hot chick, then are you buying P**rn or are you buying a game?

Some times that is fine, and power to folks, but if that is always all there is, it gets boring. Games are art to me, they are a form of expression, and if only thirst drives that, then the novelty will wear of very very quickly.

The game should not be about the shinny alone, choices inmho should not be about the hot shinny thing alone, there has to be more?

Again mileage my vary, but i am looking at the dynamic of companies taking advantage of the user for one set thing, and then doing nothing else to make a good product. Not sure if i am making sense?

Could be "back in my day" syndrome again, so hot take which i mean no offense by, just frustrated with our current lazy industry and folks accepting the abuse.

i took no offense to the comment. i just found it a bit funny, since most games that i wanted i read about in magazines or i got the chance to borrow it from a friend, and reading about the gameplay or seeing it made me want to get the game. i got an xbox 360 because i saw some guys playing gears of war 3 and both me and my sister played co-op through all 4 games together. i spent hours going over the few pages of nintendo power wanting to play pikmin 1 when it first came out, taking in every bit of that article and wanting to explore the world of pnf-404.
the handful of times that i got a game solely because of a hot chicks is small. i got bayonetta, muramasa - the demon blade, pangya fantasy golf and disgaea 2 because of that. i got the dead or alive extreme games but i knew what those were about before getting them at gamestop or at a thrift store. red ninja is probably the only one that i never heard of before hand, and it's alright. got it for like 2 dollars, so; no big loss.
i would say that the pandering kind of stuff that we see so prevalent in games, shows, and comics is using the "it's for kids/teenagers" argument to the max. "they're kids, they don't care about story; they just like loud colors and sounds." "they're teenagers, they don't care about the content; they just want hot chicks in bikinis and to feel like they are the center of the world with all of the ladies wanting them." or "our audience wants dark, grim edgy stories without any color except grey and brown and everything covered in grease. that way. they will feel 'grown up and like an adult'."
from my research, this is a pattern that has already happened twice so far since the film industry has started and it probably goes back further than that.
we are all frustrated with the current status quo; that's why we are hanging out here on a site about retro games and talk about all of the good stuff that got made and try to ignore the mediocre, bland, dirty dishwater slop that is pouring out of the industry currently and for the foreseeable future.

The second season of Tokyo Ghoul.

I watched the first season and enjoyed it. The Kaneki vs Jason fight on that last episode of the first season got me pretty excited for the next season.

The second season was airing at the time when I watched it and when I saw it, I just did not care for it. My enthusiasm for the show was lost on the first episode and continued til the last of that second season.

This is Western Millennial Writing in a nutshell: There are some millennials who can write, but unfortunately the ones who get all the attention lead sheltered lives as children, and so their impulse is to make anything that might make themselves look good, or what they think is "cool".

And unfortunately, their idea of "cool" is the worst form of edginess possible.

Of course, cool is relative after all, and they are pretending (posturing) to try and fit in, the reality is that makes them feel hollow, i know this well as i ended up that way. Rather then making other happy about me, better to improve ourselves but setting SMART goals and decide what we want to achieve and go for it. Goal orientation, and being productive is key to most things, but it start with having self respect for ones time and one self. Imho. Companies will not save us or guide us, they are only there to take our money, we have to be vigolent not to be used by them and others, and instead decide what is acceptable and not, which is what my whole argument was.

Ironically, I am a Zoomer. One of the demographics that Millennial Writers try to court. And even I can't help but feel like these writers blow and that what you're suggesting (that we should be bettering ourselves in our own way and steer clear from companies as we set our own standards) is the best solution to the problem.

Thing about Zoomers is that we're all built differently: for every one of us who are terminally online, brainrotted dumb Users, there's one of us who is sane and rational. And some of us do know a piece of crap when we see it, no matter what flashy lights or imagery you can chuck at the screen.

We can only vote what these companies do as good or bad with our wallets, as otherwise they will continue to behave badly,

TLDR pay for what you think it good, do not pay for what you think is bad. AKA vote with your wallet. This is in regards to gaming, anime, etc.

Still on topic, aka " Name an anime which conned you in to watching it"

As Flores do Mal

This anime is like the first time I read Homunculus, something strange but good, I really liked it

Shuffle. I watched the 1st half and we got on very well, I even teared up at a bit in it. I decided to invite it into my home for some tea and everything was going great. Then, as we approached the climax, I went to the kitchen to get ready. When I got back, I realised all my stuff was gone and my house was on fire.
0/10 experience, don't invite harems into your home, it's just not worth it.

I don't even know if it was good. Back when it came out I was a dub only kid watched 15 minutes of it and stopped. The dub was awful

I watched it when Netflix didn't have all to many kids animes. And this one is fucking mid. There are only TWO good characters (I find the robot teacher funny and the teenage guy with the blue hair is just a saint.) The opening, oh the opening... It might be more annoying to me than the opening for Caillou. This anime is MID. And very loud.

Malkavian (Insane):
Oh, LA Blue Girl? That’s just a tasty appetizer for the chaos, darling.
I remember the first time I watched it... my eyes rolled so hard I nearly saw my own brain.

The colors! The chaos! It’s like my subconscious threw a party and forgot to send me the invitation.
Hey, look at that, a tentacle tickling my soul, oh wait, that’s just a fly on the window, or is it?

Anyway, I was fooled into thinking it was a documentary about garden vegetables. But nope, just some perverse dance with my sanity. Oh, look! The animation’s crawling off the screen again.
*whispering* sweet nonsense about eternal darkness. Life’s a joke, darling, and I’m the punchline.

Darling in the idiots. Conned me in to watching taught it would be a cool mech anime but no utter trash with utter shitty charters.

Rising of a sheild Hero taught it would be good but utter ass.

Daily life of an immortal king pure trash taught it would be a cool story about well an immortal dude. But no it´s an anime about an introvert that OP as fuck. The only thing that was fun was watching him beat the shit out of people that underestimated him.

Re:Zero conned me in to neat fantasy but nope MC is a Moron hornron for a shitty girl and just boring story.

Sword art online I taught hey a little darker .hack like anime but nooo it´s a Harem anime with an MC dumber than a fish stick.

Edge Runner taught it would be a good anime for cyberpunk fans or fans of Blade runner sadly the MC is a bloody moron that well
Dies pointless for a shitty girl and because he never listen to his friends because he is a moron

Elfen Lied

To keep it short, when I was young adult I decided to watch it because I thought EDGY = Mature! Yeah Im too old to watch Pokemon, give me something "Mature"! I'm a BIG BOY NOW!
As an Adult now I think this anime is a narrative disaster, a lot of cartoony evil moments (the flashback with the puppy's death is so forced) exist to torment the protagonist, characters are dumb and this exists to please people with Guro fetish

"Yes i know you killed my family in front of me as a a Child and traumatized me for life causing me to get amnesia, but all is forgive because you are a cute anime girl HAHA" :D ::200mad
