FFVII for retro no question, now for not retro been playing Fantasian lately and it's very good I encourage anyone that likes FF to play it, it's a very Sakaguchi game

People gonna think I'm weird for this, but here goes.

The way the scenery and the music hits so deep, really sets the tone for catastrophic despair. I found it so inspiring, I planned to make something based on it for a project of mine.

IMHO, Yasumi Matsuno's in-game cutscene direction in Vagrant Story is rivaled only by Hideo Kojima's in Metal Gear Solid. In fact, the two are friends and respect each others' artistry very much, and it is said that after Matsuno saw the cutscenes of MGS and experienced "Metal Gear shock" (like many developers of the time), he scrapped a lot of what he'd done for Vagrant Story and re-did it. I think that was a wise choice.

The potential game Matsuno and Kojima could have made together will forever keep me up at night...

I've done the same thing many times..
Fortunately, in this community people aren't too nitpicky about that sort of thing. But I usually edit/delete the post anyway out of respect.

Already see a few of my favorites on here so I'll post a few that haven't been mentioned yet:

Persona 3. The original intro. I really like the FES one but you can't be the original. (Edit: I didn't realize it was posted already but it didnt embed properly.)

Digital Devil Saga 2. I'm not biased in the slightest.

Might as well add the second opening of Nocturne too. Fantastic way of motivating the player after dying and losing progress.
