PS1 My favorite PS1 titles... DROP YOURS!!!

Harvest Moon: Back to Nature meant a lot to me. One of the first games I played which didn't focus on an external conflict. Even though my protagonist constantly ran around doing tasks, I found it calm and welcoming. (I kind of liked the Gameboy Advance remake Friends of Mineral Town. However, after a dozen hours or so, I lost interest.)

The Playstation 1 era was a time when experimental and eccentric games could finally reach store shelves. Yes, there were 16-bit games which assumed players could understand gameplay more complex than "press A to jump, press B to attack" However, I think that the PS1 years were the beginning of funny, laid-back, or thoughtful games being available in more than one nation.

my favorites are:
  • ace combat 2 and 3
  • medal of honor and moh underground
  • resident evil 2 and 3
  • gundam battle assault 2
  • crash bandicoot 3
  • gran turismo 2
  • gungage
  • time crisis and project titan
  • final fantasy 7 and 9
  • dino crisis 2
  • elemental gearbolt
  • metal gear solid

in no particular order! :)

Shoutout to Pepsiman
Also I can't believe how much disrespect Capcom does with RE3R

The few ones I've played:

Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Legend of Mana

I have "Chrono Cross" and "Saga Frontier 2" in my backlog, I feel I could like them but they are still unplayed.

X-COM is acknowledged as one of the best strategy games of all time. And yet very few are aware that it had PSX release, with remastered soundtrack. Which makes it even better then the original.

How is it controlling without a mouse?
Not bad. Since the game is point&click, you control it in the same way as you would have on PC (minus keyboard shortcuts), but with d-pad instead mouse.
Though sensitivity may seems slow at times since it's pre-set.
There is also one other choice, enabled by defult, to control gridbox/hud by hovering over it. But it often makes you lose the sight of the gridbox from your POV over the edge of the screen. It's sub-optimal, so it's better to change it to cursor control in settings.

Not bad. The game gives you option in menu, between point&click cursor control using d-pad or manually hovering the options without the cursor. Second option isn't really viable becuse you often lose track of gridbox from your POV, as it passes the edge of the map.
However point&click controls work just fine. Camera moves in the direction of the screen's edge your cursor touches, and you can adjust the speed at which it moves in menu. But the sensitivity of the cursor is pre-set, so you might find it slow at times.
Doesn't sound too bad. I'll have to try it

They predate dual stick look so you gotta do some tinkering with the config to get it to play normal but after that these are some very cool, very stylish, and oddly relaxing games.
Oh and OP, I literally played Baroque for the first time yesterday (the saturn version though). Cool stuff!
I have no idea what Baroque wants me to do, no idea. I suppose you should just plough on with a game like that but , I didn't.

Regarding PS1 favourites, nothing unique, FF7, FF Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Diablo, Killer Instinct 2 player, enjoyed a bit of FIFA, playing Worms with a few of the lads, one of the tiger woods golf as 2 player, the resident evil games, one of the tenchu games, had a bit of fun with Wipeout & Gran Tourismo. The PS1 was a decent experience, in fairness.

I LOVE how JP region PS1 titles look. Same with Pal titles. I unironically think that a majority of the U.S. region game boxes aren’t great. Some age poorly, yes, but a lot are also just BORING.

That said, Ridge Racer Type 4 is goated in ALL regions. Peak can’t be contained. Also, long boxes look awesome.
