Music you find overrated or "not your thing"

Any album or song that you always see people laud it as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but that it personally didn't do much for you. Maybe you just didn't see what everyone else saw in it, or you just think that you weren't the target audience.

My example is Pink Floyd in general. My older brother used to always put them on and talk on lengths about how good it was, he would then punch me when I said that I didn't like it. I think that subconsciously made me hate anything I heard from them.

I've never cared for Metallica.
A few years ago I was going to re-listen to Master of Puppets because I thought "surely with my open adult mind there'd be something I like!" but I was almost disappointed just by how I still didn't like it.
Their music has, like, zero personality to me.
I was never big into thrash at all, but considering how big they are and how much worse I think they are compared to all the other 'Big Four' (Anthrax is the best out of those far) I'd say they qualify for my nominee to this thread.

As someone who was SUPER into grunge for a long period of my life, I always considered Nirvana the most boring out of the big bands.
They're not really bad or anything, I just found them much weaker compared to other big acts like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains (which aren't really grunge at all but they always get included in that scene).

Not coincidentally, I hate most music that has come out in the past 10 years.

I got into them at 16 and thought they were the most mindblowing shit ever.
I don't listen to them as much at all anymore but I find them somewhat enjoyable once a year.

I will never like Korn or Tool, or really any of that wave of mid-late 90s hard rock, especially as it continued into Limp Bizkit and the like. Smosh's Nu Metal song "My Fanny Pack" notwithstanding.
I also really appreciate what Ween do artistically, but I just cannot get into their music. All of this feels especially weird because I love Primus so dearly.

None, I try to find a strength in all the music I listen to because I find it dumb to warrant an entire genre or artist invalid—no matter the decade or era.

I guess Riddim is the closest because I don’t understand it yet.

Primus are in a league of their own. They're to alt-rock what Blind Guardian is to power metal. In genres riddled by mediocrity and uninspired cringe, they're like giants in comparison, so you can just skip the entire genre.

It indeed is! People often kid themselves that there's this hierarchy of art, but to borrow a phrase from Derek Alexander: I'm very much of the belief that there is no good or bad media. Only interesting and uninteresting media. Take The Room & Plan 9 From Outer Space, or maybe Rock n Roll McDonalds & Gucci Gang. No one would call those technically good songs or films, but people love and enjoy them dearly. One might even argue they have their own charm directly for their lack of production value!
Conversely, I find most current movies (superhero or otherwise) and music totally misaligned with my sensibilities, but you'd be a jerk to argue any of it technically bad.

As for good current music, check out:

• The Humms (a dark and heavy hard rock band from Athens, GA with a delectable tinge of gothic Americana)
• Cigarette in your Bed (this really great Japanese Shoegaze band reminiscent of Pixies and Pumpkins)
• Panchiko (a lovely experimental rock group from Leeds, UK. Like Radiohead but with PS1 JRPG sensibilities and mid-modern surrealist lyrics)
• Joey Valence and Brae (wonderful rap-rock duo making delightfully guitar-heavy club music that wouldn't sound out of place in a 1998 taco bell ad)

I think it sounds fine. In general I think it's important to always allow yourself to explore new things, but I won't fault anyone who are content in what they like.

Last year I listened to an ungodly amount of Django Reinhardt. I'm slow though, so it's usually like a few new (to me) artists/bands I hyperfocus on per year, if I jump into an entire genre I tend to forget what I liked.
Sun Ra is next on my list.

This is the way. I won't deny that I have certain tastes that I often default to, but I try to keep an open mind whenever possible.

I really don't like to use language like "This music is garbage" just because something isn't for me personally as well.
