I spent more time with this after things at work settled down, and I still say it's a huge technical achievement, but the gameplay feels busted. I put the difficulty to easy and the first fight was still BRUTAL. Apparently the dev wanted the emulate the feel of playing the arcade game with the AI but like, I emulate the arcade game already. It's not like that on the very first fight. At all. Something just feels off as well, moves feel like they are not coming out when they should or landing awkwardly I guess? It's hard to describe. In terms of looks, great stuff. But it plays the absolute worst, and it's brutal difficulty even in the first match makes it just plain not fun to play.

Overall, thumbs down.

People saying this blows the other ports away are pretty wrong. Yes, visually and sound wise the game hits all the right marks. But the gameplay is broken, due to combos not working. Most of what was affected is due to how the jump kicks in this port push the opposing fighters away when the kick lands. This ruins any possibility for stringing combos together after landing jump kicks. Some other distance sensitive attacks are also affected. You will get situations where like Lou Kang's bicycle kick will randomly travel through opponents, and similar hit box issues. If you are a serious MK 2 player, this isn't the port for you. The gameplay has been rolled back to feel more like MK 1+ than arcade MK2.

If you want a MK 2 port that plays like MK2, keep playing the following in the following order:
32X arcade rom hack with MD+ music
PS1
32X
Snes
Saturn
Genesis (arcade rom hack)

If your dream was to have a MK 2 that plays like MK1 gameplay wise with no combos etc, with a new spin on some of the finishers, than this will be for you. It's very much a me too product so you can say 3DO has a MK port on it, and 3DO HD did their own thing with this port, for better or worse.
If you're a serious player you will just play the arcade version or even better MKII+. Is that fair?

TBH I'm not sure what the point of these home-version hacks are, but I think of them as just passion projects that are cool to exist. I'm not sure what is to be accomplished by saying "this port isn't serious enough" when really there is no reason to play any of these over the arcade version or MKII+.

Looks and sounds really good, I remember seeing the beta and I wondered if the gameplay would be refined as I can tell it feels different in terms of hit detection and overall gameplay, it's not a knock against this effort as I can see it's the 3DO Version, meaning it should feel different anyways. It's always nice to see fans proving themselves and giving such love to their beloved consoles.

Huh, amazing work. Probably the best on console in terms of overall presentation.

Unfortunately I don’t own a 3DO console. Fortunately I played it with an emulator. This is a brilliant port of the classic arcade game.

This is an amazing Port! Blows the Sega Saturn, and PlayStation, versions out of the water!
is really pleasant to play? 3DO isnt exaclty known for having the fastest CD speed so i wonder how long are the loading times.

la mejor versión clásica, el programador de este port si que le puso amor al detalle, jugabilidad y fidelidad del juego original.
